Abstract Green mussel is a type of shellfish that is widely consumed by humans. Excessive consumption of green mussels can be harmful to health because they are prone to contain heavy metals. One of the methods to reduce the heavy metal content of green mussels is to use citric acid in the pineapple solution. The Green mussel was soaked in pineapple solution for 30 min, 60 min and 90 min. The content of heavy metals such as Pb, Cd, and As was analyzed by ICP-MS. The results showed that after soaking green mussels in pineapple solution for 30 minutes, they reduced 85% Pb, 80,95% Cd, and 53,23% As. The duration of soaking green mussels in pineapple solution for 30 minutes overall had a better quality than soaking for 60 and 90 minutes, with a moisture content of 74,43 + 0,39 (%), protein content 15,21 + 0,35 (%), pH level 6,74 + 0,10, organoleptic with a confidence interval of 7,48<μ< 7,54.

<p><strong>Objective –</strong> This study aimed to determine and differentiate erosive softening and enamel erosive loss induced by citric and hydrochloric acids. <strong>Material</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Methods –</strong> Forty enamel specimens were divided into 2 groups: 1) 0.05 M citric acid (pH 2.5) simulating extrinsic erosion and 2) 0.01 M hydrochloric acid (pH 2.2) simulating intrinsic erosion. The enamel specimens were submitted to erosive challenges. Surface microhardness (softening) or contact profilometry (loss) was done after 30 s, after each 60 s up to 10 min, after each 5 min up to 30 min and after 60, 90 and 120 min. <strong>Results –</strong> Erosive softening (enamel hardness loss) was measurable up to 1 and 2 min for hydrochloric and citric acids, respectively. Erosive loss was significantly increased over time for both types of acids. After 8 min, citric acid was more aggressive than hydrochloric acid (p &lt; 0.001). <strong>Conclusion –</strong> The progression of enamel erosion from erosive softening to erosive loss is highly dependent on the type of acid, being citric acid more aggressive in later stages. Oxytetracycline (OTC) has been commonly used as an effective antibiotic against various fish bacterial diseases, including vibriosis. In this study, the absorption-enhancing effect of citric acid on oral OTC pharmacokinetics and treatment of artificial Vibrio anguillarum infection was evaluated in juvenile yellowtail Seriola quinqueradiata followed by serum OTC concentration analysis. When 25 mg kg-1 body weight (BW) OTC was administered in combination with 1250 mg kg-1 BW citric acid, the serum OTC concentration reached almost the same concentration as that of the group treated with 50 mg kg-1 BW OTC. This coadministration successfully suppressed mortality due to vibriosis similar to the group treated with 50 mg kg-1 BW OTC. Conversely, poor efficacy was observed when only 25 mg kg-1 BW OTC was administered. These results suggest that coadministration of citric acid can be beneficial in reducing the dose of OTC needed for effective treatment, and thus contributes to the goal of reduced use of this antibiotic in aquaculture.

ABSTRACT The succinic, malic and isocitric dehydrogenases in the ovary of immature and mature, normal and serum gonadotrophin injected rats were examined. The Qo2 of these enzymes were markedly enhanced in the gonadotrophin injected rats of both age groups, except in the case of succinic dehydrogenase in the ovary of the immature rats, where a slight non-significant decrease was noted. It is concluded that in the mature rat ovary, gonadotrophin administration stimulates the activity of all the examined dehydrogenases of the citric acid cycle, whereas in the immature rat ovary, at least the isocitric- and malic dehydrogenases are thus stimulated.
