A series of ultralong (up to tens of micrometers) MoO3 nanowire-based membranes were synthesized for the treatment of aqueous solutions containing the cationic dyes methylene blue (MB) and rhodamine B (RhB). This treatment method possesses extremely rapid and superhigh adsorbability (up to 521 and 321 mg/g for MB and RhB, respectively), as well excellent selective adsorption ability of cationic dyes with respect to the anionic dye methyl orange (MO). Moreover, the cationic dyes on the membrane can be desorbed easily, and reusability is good.

AbstractThe aggregation of three cationic dyes (CD), crystal violet (CV), Nile blue (NB) and rhodamine B (RB) in aqueous solution was studied by visible absorption spectrophotometry and compared with methylene blue (MB). The distribution of the dye species (monomers, dimers, trimers, and tetramers) in aqueous solutions with different concentrations of dye was calculated using equilibrium stepwise aggregation constants Kn. These cationic dyes were intercalated into montmorillonite (SAz-1) and its reduced charge form (RC-SAz(210)) prepared by heating lithium montmorillonite (Li/SAz-1) at 210ºC. The fluorescence of fully saturated CD/SAz and low-CD loaded CD/RC-SAz(210) complexes was studied. Visible absorption spectra of CD aqueous solutions and visible absorption spectra and X-ray diffraction patterns (d001) of the CD/SAz and CD/RC-SAz( 210) solid complexes were obtained and evaluated. Large fluorescence intensities were found for CV/RC-SAz(210) and NB/RC-SAz(210) complexes in the same way as for the complex of methylene blue with reduced-charge montmorillonite MB/RCM(210) described previously.

This paper demonstrates the application of negative charge-functionalized carbon-encapsulated superparamagnetic colloidal nanoparticles being as nanoadsorbents for the removal of cationic dyes from aqueous solutions. Adsorption characteristics of the magnetic nanoadsorbents were examined using methylene blue as adsorbates, exhibiting excellent ability to remove cationic dyes from aqueous solutions. In addition, the influences of uptake time, concentration of nanoadsorbents and pH values of aqueous solution on the removal of cationic dyes have been discussed. Results show that the removal efficiency can be up to 90% at a dye concentration of 100 mg L-1 when the uptake time is 1 min, which indicates rapidly removal ability of the magnetic nanoadsorbents. Furthermore, other cationic dyes including rhodamine B and methyl violet were used to examine the universality of nanoadsorbents.

Abstract A new Cu(II) complex, [Cu2(1,3-BMIB)(OBA)2] n (1) (1,3-BMIB = 1,3-bis(2-methyl-1H-imidazol-1-yl)benzene, H2OBA = 4,4′-oxybis(benzoic acid)) was hydrothermally synthesized and has been structurally characterized. Complex 1 possesses a 3D 2-fold interpenetrating framework based on [Cu(OBA)] n layers with a Schläfli symbol {412.63}. Complex 1 displays excellent photocatalytic properties in the degradation of methylene blue (MB) and rhodamine B (RhB).
