The formation of keto-enamine based crystalline, porous polymers in water is investigated for the first time. Facile access to the Schiff base reaction in water has been exploited to synthesize stable porous structures using the principles of Dynamic Covalent Chemistry (DCC). Most credibly, the water-based Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs) possess chemical as well as physical properties such as crystallinity, surface area and porosity, which is comparable to their solvothermal counterparts. The formation of COFs in water is further investigated by understanding the nature of the monomers formed using hydroxy and non-hydroxy analogues of the aldehyde. This synthetic route paves a new way to synthesize COFs using a viable, greener route by utilization of the DCC principles in conjunction with the keto–enol tautomerism to synthesize useful, stable and porous COFs in water.

GdF3:Eu3+nanophosphors with hexagonal or orthorhombic structure have been succeeded to be selectively synthesized at room temperature for the first time via a simple soft chemical route. The structure and morphology of GdF3:Eu3+nanophosphors were controlled by using different fluoride precursors. Hexagonal GdF3:Eu3+nanocrystals were formed when NaBF4was used as a fluoride precursor, while orthorhombic GdF3:Eu3+nanocrystals were obtained with NaF or NH4F fluoride precursor. It was also experimentally revealed that hexagonal GdF3:Eu3+nanophosphors emitted essentially stronger Eu3+luminescence than orthorhombic ones did. The formation mechanism of GdF3nanocrystals and the possible reasons of the strong PL in hexagonal were discussed.

Nannozinone A is an unprecedented dihydropyrrolopyrazinone metabolite derived from myxobacterial Nannocystis pusilla strain MNa10913. In this paper, the synthesis of nannozinone A was disclosed for the first time. Nannozinone A was readily obtained in 6 steps and in 36% overall yield from commercially available N-Boc-propinal. Key feature of the synthesis includes intramolecular imine formation and subsequent spontaneous oxidation toward the unique dihydropyrrolopyrazinone skeleton. This concise synthetic route would be helpful to prepare natural dihydropyrrolopyrazinones and their derivatives.

Indole scaffold synthesis relies primarily on oxidative C–H amination of N-protected alkenylanilines for C–N intramolecular cyclization reactions. Herein, for the first time, without N-protection, various readily prepared 2-alkenylanilines were transformed into the desired indole products in good yields by using K2S2O8 as oxidant in the presence of catalytic amounts of FeF2. The K2S2O8/FeF2 system offers a direct and benign synthetic route to 3-arylindoles and it is applicable to a wide range of substituted indoles including drug intermediates.
