GdF3:Eu3+nanophosphors with hexagonal or orthorhombic structure have been succeeded to be selectively synthesized at room temperature for the first time via a simple soft chemical route. The structure and morphology of GdF3:Eu3+nanophosphors were controlled by using different fluoride precursors. Hexagonal GdF3:Eu3+nanocrystals were formed when NaBF4was used as a fluoride precursor, while orthorhombic GdF3:Eu3+nanocrystals were obtained with NaF or NH4F fluoride precursor. It was also experimentally revealed that hexagonal GdF3:Eu3+nanophosphors emitted essentially stronger Eu3+luminescence than orthorhombic ones did. The formation mechanism of GdF3nanocrystals and the possible reasons of the strong PL in hexagonal were discussed.

The luminescence properties at room temperature and 77 K of octamethylcorrole are reported for the first time, together with the photophysical behaviour of corrole-corrole and porphyrin-corrole dyads covalently linked through the 10-position with a phenyl bridge. The photophysical properties of corrole free base are very similar to those of the porphyrin analogues, whereas the dimeric systems show luminescence bands different from those of the parent monomers, indicating an unexpectedly high degree of interaction between the chromophores. The porphyrin-corrole dyad undergoes photocatalysed ring opening of the corrole moiety to give the corresponding porphyrin-biliverdin species.

YBa2Cu3O7−x(YBCO) nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized via a soft chemical approach and they were found photocatalytically active at room temperature. Using metal acetate as precursors, a well-designed soft chemical procedure was carried out to produce YBCO NPs. The very small particle size and/or large number of defects might have led the NPs to semiconductors with vigorous photocatalytic activities. This work provides a direct and efficient route to obtain multifunction in YBCO based nanomaterials which are based on specific size and surface effects.

AbstractThe incorporation and optical activation of Er in III-N optically-pumped and electroluminescent structures has been studied. For the first time, strong Er3+-related photoluminescence (PL) was measured at 300K for GaN:Er doped during growth on c-plane Al2O3 and Si. Also, room temperature electroluminescence was observed for simple GaN:Er structures on Si. Experiments to evaluate the effects C and 0 on the optical activity of Er indicated that these impurities enhance Er PL and EL in GaN. GaN films doped with Er to a concentration of 3 ×1018 cm−3 with [0] ∼ 1020 cm−3 and [C] ∼1021 cm−3 luminesce at 1.54 pim with an intensity ∼2 orders of magnitude greater than films with oxygen and carbon backgrounds of less than 1019 cm−3. Implantation and activation annealing was also shown to increase Er3+ signal in p(Mg)-i(Er)-n(Si) structures where C and 0 implant profiles were made to coincide with the Er-doped layers. The thermal PL quenching behavior was also markedly different for samples of varying 0 and C content. Er3+ photoluminescence from Gan:Er/Al2O3 samples with high O and C concentrations quenched by only 10% between 15 K and 300 K while the integrated PL signal from samples with lower [O] and [C] quenched ∼85% over the same temperature range.

Graphene Oxide (GO)/manganese oxide (MnO2) composites with different feeding ratio are synthesized by a simple and economic soft chemical route in a water-isopropyl alcohol under different cooling method. The SEM results show that MnO2 nanoparticle with smaller size (8nm) homogeneously coats on the surfaces of graphene oxide under quick ice quenching, and the better electrochemical properties is obtained. The composites with feeding ratio 1:9 have maximum capacitance value, because of agglomerate induced by too much MnO2. The specific capacitances calculated by galvanostatic charge/discharge curve were 312.87 F/g by ice water quenching and 253.12 F/g by reflux cooling to room temperature. The GO/MnO2 electrode retained about 85.12% (with quick ice quenching) and 88.16% (with reflux cooling) of initial capacitance after 1000 cycles, respectively.

Precursors of calcium strontium zirconate (Ca0.8Sr0.2ZrO3) were synthesized by oxalate coprecipitation method. TG-DTA was used to characterize the thermal decomposition behaviors of the precursors. The XRD results revealed that the powders crystallized as cubic Ca0.8Sr0.2ZrO3 with increasing heating temperature up to 1000°C. Calcium strontium zirconate ceramics were obtained under conventional sintering conditions by using the as-prepared Ca0.8Sr0.2ZrO3 powders. The SEM micrographs of the ceramics sintered at 1450oC exhibited narrow grain-size distribution with the average grain size around 0.7 4m. The dielectric properties showed that, dielectric constant of the Ca0.8Sr0.2ZrO3 was about 24.0 and dielectric loss was 0.002 at the frequency of 1GHz and the room temperature.
