Derivatives of tris-fused TTF extended with two ethanediylidenes (5), tris- and pentakis-fused TTFs extended with two thiophene-2,5-diylidenes (6–9) were successfully synthesized. Cyclic voltammograms of the tetrakis(n-hexylthio) derivative of 5 and 7 (5d, 7d) consisted of two pairs of two-electron redox waves and two pairs of one-electron redox waves. On the other hand, four pairs of two-electron redox waves and two pairs of one-electron redox waves were observed for the tetrakis(n-hexylthio) derivative of 9 (9d). Coin-type cells using the bis(ethylenedithio) derivatives of 5 (5b), 6 (6b) and the tetrakis(methylthio) derivatives of 5 (5c) and 8 (8c) as positive electrode materials showed initial discharge capacities of 157–190 mAh g−1 and initial energy densities of 535–680 mAh g−1. The discharge capacities after 40 cycles were 64–86% of the initial discharge capacities.

In the present work, the reliability of the volume-based thermodynamics (VBT) methods in the calculation of lattice energies is investigated by applying the “traditional” Kapustinskii equation [8], as well as Glasser-Jenkins [3] and Kaya [5] equations to calculate the lattice energies for Na, K and Rb pyruvates [9-11] as well as for the coordination compound [Bi(C7H5O3)3C12H8N2] [17] (in which C12H8N2 = 1,10 phenathroline and C7H5O3-= <i>o</i>-hyddroxybenzoic acid anion). As comparison, the lattice energies are also calculated using formation enthalpy values for sodium pyrivate and [Bi(C7H5O3)3C12H8N2]. For the pyruvates, is verified that none of the considered approach, Kapustinskii, Glasser, Kaya or density, provides values that agrees in an acceptable % difference, with the lattice energy values calculated from the formation enthalpy values. However, it must be pointed out that Kaya approach, with deals with a chemical hardness approach is the better one for such kind of inorganic-organic salts. Based on data obtained for [Bi(C7H5O3)3C12H8N2] is concluded that the only one VBT method that provides reliable lattice energies for compounds with bulky uncharged ligands is that one based on density values (derived by Glasser-Jenkins).

AbstractConsiderable efforts are in progress to develop rechargeable batteries as alternative systems to the nickel-cadmium battery. In this regard, several advances have been made in ambient-temperature lithium battery technology, and specifically in the engineering of rechargeable lithium/manganese dioxide cells. This paper reviews the current state of the art in rechargeable Li/MnO2battery technology; particular attention is paid to the structural features of various MnO2electrode materials which influence their electrochemical and cycling behaviour in lithium cells.

Abstract As a high-efficiency, low-cost, convenient and environmentally friendly sterilization technology, electrochemical disinfection has developed rapidly in recent years. Electrochemical sterilization is an environmentally friendly sterilization technology. The research progress of this technology in the recent 30 years in sterilization mechanism and electrode materials is summarized. The mechanism of electrochemical sterilization includes the chemical effects of active chlorine, active intermediates, copper or silver ions, and the physical effects of electric fields; the electrode materials used are titanium anode, carbon cathode, and anode. The article combined with electrochemical equipment in a thermal power plant cold open circulating cooling water treatment experiment. Experimental research found that under the conditions of current density of 120A/m2, residence time of 10s, and electrode spacing of 1.8cm, the bactericidal effect can reach 97%. Under certain experimental conditions and a certain period of time, the total number of heterogeneous bacteria in the circulating cooling water after treatment can be effectively inhibited.

A highly effective way to improve prognosis of viral infectious diseases and to determine the outcome of infection is early, fast, simple, and efficient diagnosis of viral pathogens in biological fluids. Among a wide range of viral pathogens, Flaviviruses attract a special attention. Flavivirus genus includes more than 70 viruses, the most familiar being dengue virus (DENV), Zika virus (ZIKV), and Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV). Haemorrhagic and encephalitis diseases are the most common severe consequences of flaviviral infection. Currently, increasing attention is being paid to the development of electrochemical immunological methods for the determination of Flaviviruses. This review critically compares and evaluates recent research progress in electrochemical biosensing of DENV, ZIKV, and JEV without labelling. Specific attention is paid to comparison of detection strategies, electrode materials, and analytical characteristics. The potential of so far developed biosensors is discussed together with an outlook for further development in this field.

Various triethylphosphine coordinated gold(1) mercaptides of formula Et3PAuSR (R = Me, Et, Pr, Bu, Bu1, Ph, CH2Ph, β-C10H7, and CH2CH(NH2)C02H), and related sulphur derivatives of formula Et3PAuY (Y = SCN, SC(S)Net2, SC(S)OEt, and SC(NH2)NH2+Br-) have been prepared. Under appropriate conditions, displacement of the sulphur group from the gold atom is observed, either by another sulphur nucleophile, e.g. Et3PAuSR + Et2NCSS- → Et3PAuSC(S)Net2 + RS-, or by a. nucleophile such as Cl-, Br-, I-, NO3-, or CN-.
