We first found that identifying the protonation status and polarity of the target pollutant helped to rapidly find an optimal pH condition for its electrochemical detection, which promoted practical application.

Because −NH2 and −NH− in poly-[Formula: see text]-phenylenediamine (P[Formula: see text]PD) can interact strongly with the empty orbitals of Cu to show unique electrochemical activity, P[Formula: see text]PD is suitable for the removal of Cu[Formula: see text] by electrochemical oxidation–reduction process. In this study, with P[Formula: see text]PD and its carbon dot composite (CDs/P[Formula: see text]PD) as working electrodes, the electrochemical reduction and removal of Cu[Formula: see text] in the aqueous solution were carried out with the potentiostatic method. According to effects of voltage, pH of the solution, initial concentration of Cu[Formula: see text], and electrochemical reduction time on the Cu[Formula: see text] removal, the Cu[Formula: see text] removal ratios of P[Formula: see text]PD and CDs/P[Formula: see text]PD were up to 64.69% and 73.34%, respectively, at −0.2 V and the optimal pH. Additionally, results showed that these processes were in line with the quasi-first order kinetic model. Both P[Formula: see text]PD and CDs/P[Formula: see text]PD showed good reproducibility in six cycles. After five times of repeated usage, the regeneration efficiencies of P[Formula: see text]PD and CDs/P[Formula: see text]PD dropped to 77.04% and 79.36%, respectively.

The biosorption characteristic of Cd(II) ions from aqueous solution using Lengkuas Merah (Alpinia Gralanga) were investigated as a function of pH. The maximum biosorption capacity of a Lengkuas Merah (Alpinia Gralanga) for Cd(II) was found to be 18,37 mg/L and 91,85% at optimum pH was 10. At pH 2 to 10 the biosorption of Cd ions tends to increase. The result showed that the lengkuas merah  can be evaluated as an alternative biosorbent to treatment waste water containing Cd(II). A Lengkuas Merah is low cost and has considerable high biosorption capacity.

We report the formation of gold nanoparticles on indium tin oxide conducting glass (ITO) surface via electrodeposition method at room temperature. The prepared nano-Au electrodes has been fabricated for sensitive detection of Pb2+, and showed highly selective response toward Pb2+. The electrochemical detection of Pb2+ were determined by differential pulse stripping voltammetric (DPSV). The nano-Au electrochemical sensor could detect Pb2+ from 0.5 to 10 μM with detection limits of 0.06 μM (S/N= 3) and sensitivity of 0.27996 mA μM−1. The proposed sensor is simple, reliable, sensitive, selective, and low-cost, thus holds potential for practical application in Pb2+ detection.

The effect of pH, temperature, ionic strength, and lipoprotein concentration on the reversible dissociation of α- and β-lipovitellin in aqueous solutions above pH 6 has been examined by ultracentrifugal measurements. Under otherwise similar conditions α- and β-lipovitellin are 50% dissociated at pH 10.5 and 7.8, respectively. Both lipovitellins undergo an irreversible aggregation above about pH 11; β-lipovitellin is sometimes converted to a non-dissociable form upon aging. Dissociation of both lipovitellins decreases with increasing ionic strength and increasing temperature. Although the ultracentrifugal method has limitations, provisional equilibrium constants and thermodynamic data were obtained from it that are comparable with those obtained for certain protein systems.
