Four polyoxometalate-based compounds were synthesized by hydrothermal method, namely [Ni2(HPtpi)(H2O)7.5Mo0.17(TeMo6O24)]·2.5H2O (1),[Co(HPtpi)2(H2Ptpi)2(GeMo12O40)2]·4H2O (2) and {[M(Ptpi)(H2Ptpi)(H2O)][(γ-Mo8O26)0.5(α-Mo8O26)0.5]}·4H2O (M = Co in 3; Ni in 4) (Ptpi = 1-[2-(3-Pyridin-4-yl-[1,2,4]triazol-4-yl)-propyl]-imidazol). Compound 1 exhibits a 3D...

Highly dispersed TiO2 nanotubes (TiO2-NTs) were synthesized via the reaction of anatase TiO2 powder with NaOH solution. Au nanoparticles of about 5 nm were deposited on the surface of TiO2-NTs with hydrothermal reduction method. The prepared nanocomposites were well characterized with TEM and XRD. Their photocatalytic properties and reducing ability were investigated by UV-Vis absorption and photocatalytic reduction of Cd2+ ions with different amount of TiO2-NTs and TiO2-NTs (Au) varying from 0.1g to 0.001g. The results from absorption patterns and AAS showed that the absorption intensity of TiO2-NTs (Au) was higher compared with that of TiO2-NTs. Moreover, the concentration of remanent Cd2+ (0.48mg/L) using TiO2-NTs (Au) was lower than that of Cd2+ (0.65mg/L) using TiO2-NTs.

A series of NaTaO3 photocatalysts were prepared with Ta2O5 and NaOH via a hydrothermal method. CuO was loaded onto the surface of NaTaO3 as a cocatalyst by successive impregnation and calcination. The obtained photocatalysts were characterized by XRD, SEM, UV–vis, EDS and XPS and used to photocatalytically reduce CO2 in isopropanol. This worked to both absorb CO2 and as a sacrificial reagent to harvest CO2 and donate electrons. Methanol and acetone were generated as the reduction product of CO2 and the oxidation product of isopropanol, respectively. NaTaO3 nanocubes loaded with 2 wt % CuO and synthesized in 2 mol/L NaOH solution showed the best activity. The methanol and acetone yields were 137.48 μmol/(g·h) and 335.93 μmol/(g·h), respectively, after 6 h of irradiation. Such high activity could be attributed to the good crystallinity, morphology and proper amount of CuO loading, which functioned as reductive sites for selective formation of methanol. The reaction mechanism was also proposed and explained by band theory.

Anatase titania with tunable shapes has been synthesized by a facile hydrothermal method using peroxotitanic acid as a precursor. The results of investigations showed that the photocatalytic activity in the reduction of CO2 to methanol increased with an increase in the percentage of {001} surfaces.

Ruthenium (II) polypyridyl complexes modified titanium dioxide materials with anatase phase, the length of 10–100[Formula: see text]nm, were synthesized by a hydrothermal method. Photocatalytic CO2reduction experiments were performed in sensitized TiO2aqueous suspensions under UV–Vis light in closed systems. And only methanol was detected in the liquid phase under the experiment condition. The effect of different photosensitizers content on the photoactivity of TiO2was also studied, showing that Ru(BiDiPy)2(NCS)2sensitized TiO2was the optimal photocatalyst in transformation of CO2to methanol. A possible mechanism for the photocatalytic reduction was also proposed in this paper.

Bismuth sulfide (Bi2S3) nanostructures with various morphologies, including nanowires, nanorods and nanoflowers, have been successfully fabricated via a facile hydrothermal method. The results show that the sulfur source plays a crucial role in determining the product morphology. Photocatalysis experiments show Bi2S3 nanowires exhibit the highest photocatalytic reduction of Cr(VI) when exposed to visible light irradiation.
