Because of the constraints of energy conservation and the impact on the environment, the manufacturing industry has adopted sustainable development as the goal, and a green manufacturing innovation system based on environmental protection has emerged. In order to provide R&D personnel support to manufacturing enterprises in Harbin, and in order to promote the construction of a green innovation system for manufacturing and the realization of the 13th Five-Year Plan, this article used the grey forecasting model and the univariate linear regression prediction to predict the number of R&D personnel in Harbin in 2020 based on the number of R&D personnel in 2010-2016, and the predicted values were 24,952 and 31,172 respectively. The results show that if Harbin continues to use its original development model, it will not be able to achieve the established development goals by 2020 because of the shortage of R&D personnel. Therefore, it is necessary to increase investment in R&D personnel so as to achieve the 13th Five-Year Plan of Harbin City and protect the ecological green development goals.

The purpose of the study is to assess the technological transformation of the manufacturing industry in Russia, taking into account the digital factor. The analysis of a set of methods that can be used to assess the impact of technologies on the digital transformation of economic systems (country, industry, region, industrial enterprise) is carried out; the results of a SWOT analysis of the Russian manufacturing industry for the medium term are presented (as an initial stage for the subsequent development of functional strategies of industrial enterprises-digital transformation, innovative, competitive, etc.); the results of a survey of experts on a sample of industrial enterprises of the Arkhangelsk region regarding barriers and prospects of digital transformation of manufacturing enterprises are summarized; an economic and mathematical model of the influence of production factors, including the digital factor, on the value added created by the manufacturing industry is developed. Based on the analysis and modeling of the formation of added value in the manufacturing industry, taking into account the contribution of each of the factors of production, a set of solutions is proposed, on the basis of which it is possible to give a new impetus to accelerate the digital transformation of the industry.

The structure of the manufacturing industry has forced manufacturing companies to understand the importance of digitalization and servitization transformation, in terms of production and R&D. In this study, we examine the relationship between servitization, digitization, and enterprise innovation performance through the lens of dynamic capabilities within enterprises. We also discuss the impact of the transformation servitization strategy on business innovation, and the mechanisms by which it impacts business innovation performance. The study’s findings indicate that servitization significantly contributes to innovation performance, and digitalization acts as a mediating mechanism between the proposed relationships. Thus, this article argues for the integration and growth of servitization and digitization.

During the end of the 20th century and beginning of 21st century, there is a trend to evaluating the actions undertaken to improve the socio-economic environment in which we live, to achieve a greater level of wellbeing for all citizens. In the context of Stakeholder Theory, considering an organization should always operate towards creating positive value for society, the creation of the UN Global Compact and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals created a shift in many regions. The present study evaluates this context and how the implementation of circular economy policies has affected the achievement of SDGs in Spain. Specifically, the role of different private and public agents is evaluated in the tire manufacturing industry and the impact in each of the SDGs. Results show positive results as well as areas of improvement to further improve the roadmap towards achieving the 17 SDGs.

Purpose – clarifying the current risks and organizational issues in start-up manufacturing enterprises in Latvia, to find out the impact of teamwork on work provision in Latvia start-up manufacturing enterprises. Research methodology – to achieve the purpose of this study, a survey of 55 start-up entrepreneurs from fifteen Business Incubators of Investment and Development Agency of Latvia in 2018 was undertaken by an online questionnaire. Findings – the results of the research have indicated that the lack of own team is one of the dominant start-up manufacturing enterprise work risks. Comparative analysis of data showed that mostly the entrepreneurs, who have started development of their business idea individually and whose enterprise’s work is basically based on a singledecision making, have encountered the issue. However, the research outcomes revealed that provision of start-up manufacturing enterprise work outcomes is related to the teamwork factor – both belief in joint work, common understanding about the expected outcomes, mutual trust and support. Research limitations – direct start-up enterprises, which have registered their activity in one of the sub-sectors of the NACE (Rev. 2) Group C “Manufacturing Industry” and receive the support provided by the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia Business Incubator for their start-up activity in Latvia, without exceeding a 4-year incubation period, have been chosen for the research. Practical implications – the research outcomes point to the need of Business Incubators of Investment and Development of Latvia to provide not only tangible opportunities for start-up manufacturing enterprises for the business idea development during the incubation period, but also practical knowledge on team building during the business start-up process. Originality/Value – Unlike other studies that are mostly focused on hard benefits in enterprises, as well as in start-ups, this is a specific research which provides insights on whether teamwork is recognized as an important factor of startup manufacturing companie work provision in relation to technological and external risks during the business start-up process and its work result achievement

Under the background of global warming, how to reduce carbon emissions and realize green and sustainable development in China is worth exploring. Firstly, this paper makes theoretical analysis, and considers that FDI in producer services can reduce the carbon emission of manufacturing industry by optimizing the input structure of manufacturing industry, improving the productivity and technical level, and enhancing the management ability and resource allocation ability of manufacturing enterprises. Then, using the panel data of China’s industries from 2004 to 2014, this paper uses two-way FE method to carry out empirical test, and finds that the increase of FDI in producer services can significantly reduce carbon emissions. Therefore, it is necessary to actively guide multinational corporations to invest in China’s producer services industry, to promote green and sustainable economic development.

Manufacturing industry is the lifeblood of national economy, and innovation input is the lifeline of manufacturing enterprises. This paper selects the financial data of China’s listed manufacturing companies from 2015 to 2019 to study the moderating effect of governance structure on the relationship between innovation input and firm performance. It is found that innovation investment has a negative influence on firm performance with lag. In terms of ownership structure, ownership concentration has a negative moderating effect on the relationship between innovation input and firm performance. The degree of equity balance has a positive moderating effect on the relationship between innovation input and firm performance. According to the conclusion of this study, it is expected to optimize the governance structure of China’s manufacturing enterprises and promote industrial development.

This paper adopts 2009 to 2015 panel data from 27 manufacturing industries in China. A Super-SBM model is used to measure the green innovation efficiency (GIE) of China’s manufacturing industry. A panel data model is then built to systematically examine the impact of environmental regulation (ER) and two-way foreign direct investment (FDI) on the GIE of China’s manufacturing industry under a unified analysis framework. The results are as follows: (1) the overall level of the green innovation efficiency in China’s manufacturing is low, and there is still great potential for improvement. Considering industry heterogeneity, the green innovation efficiency of patent-intensive manufacturing is significantly higher than that of non-patent-intensive manufacturing; (2) in terms of the whole manufacturing industry, ER and the interaction between ER and outward foreign direct investment (OFDI) have significantly negative effects on GIE, OFDI has significantly positive effects on GIE. (3) when considering industry heterogeneity, for patent-intensive manufacturing, ER and the interaction between ER and inward foreign direct investment (IFDI) have significantly negative effects on GIE, while IFDI has significantly positive effect on GIE. For non-patent-intensive manufacturing, ER and the interaction between ER and OFDI have significantly negative effects on GIE, while IFDI and the interaction between ER and IFDI have significantly positive effects on GIE.

This study explores the impact of green supply chain (GSC) practices on the enterprise performance in the context of Chinese manufacturing enterprises. A sample of 415 companies’ data was collected from the Chinese manufacturing industry. There are five predictors, including green distribution, green purchasing, green manufacturing, green information system, and eco-design, that were measured for the GSC practices. The GSC practices were measured by five predictors, including green distribution, green purchasing, green manufacturing, green information system, and eco-design. By using exploratory analysis and linear multiple regression analysis, the findings show that except for green distribution, rest of the independent variables have been found to be positively significant to predict enterprise performance. However, the green purchasing has revealed the greatest impact on enterprise performance. Therefore, senior management of the enterprises should implement green practices in their supply chain to increase the overall performance. In future, researchers can conduct comparative studies between manufacturing industry and other industries. In addition, they may bring in some other independent variables, including green logistics, co-operation with customers, and green transportation system. In this research, we estimate the economic and environmental performances together as enterprise performance. But in future, researchers may also calculate the economic and environmental performances separately.

Research background: The paper presents the issue of total factor productivity in the manufacturing industry in Poland. It has been assumed that total factor productivity (TFP) is a synthetic measure of efficiency of the production process and a measure of the impact of technical progress on the rate of economic growth. Purpose of the article: The main aim of the paper is to assess the differentiation in the level of total factor productivity (TFP) occurring among the Section C manufacturing divisions in Poland. In particular, the paper raises the issue of measuring and analysing the relationship between expenditure on research and development and the level of TFP in manufacturing divisions in Poland. Methods: In the presented research, the TFP level was determined by using the two-factor Cobb-Douglas production function, while econometric panel models were used to assess the studied relationship. Findings & Value added: The presented considerations show that manufacturing divisions in Poland are diversified in terms of total factor productivity. Generally, manufacturing divisions with high R&D intensity, i.e. divisions classified as so-called high-tech ones, are characterised by a high TFP level. The econometric analysis carried out allows us to conclude that expenditure on R&D incurred in manufacturing enterprises significantly affects the level of TFP.
