A mathematical model of a contact interaction between a plate and rigid stamp is derived taking into account physical and design details. The plate is considered to have a crack, that changes its form. The problem of the contact is evaluated based on the theory of variational inequalities. The shape of the stamp is assumed to be perpendicular to the plate surface and the Poisson’s ratio is between 0 and 0.5. Analytical formulation of the study consists of transformation equation, boundary conditions and integral equation. The result is used in maximization and minimization problems for choosing extremal shape of the vertical break in the plate.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is concerned with the study of nonlinear ultrasonic waves in a magneto-flexo-thermo (MFT) elastic armchair single-walled carbon nanotube (ASWCNT) resting on polymer matrix. Design/methodology/approach A mathematical model is developed for the analytical study of nonlinear ultrasonic waves in a MFT elastic armchair single walled carbon nanotube rested on polymer matrix using Euler beam theory. The analytical formulation is developed based on Eringen’s nonlocal elasticity theory to account small scale effect. After developing the formal solution of the mathematical model consisting of partial differential equations, the frequency equations have been analysed numerically by using the nonlinear foundations supported by Winkler-Pasternak model. The solution is obtained by ultrasonic wave dispersion relations. Findings From the literature survey, it is evident that the analytical formulation of nonlinear ultrasonic waves in an MFT elastic ASWCNT embedded on polymer matrix is not discussed by any researchers. So, in this paper the analytical solutions of nonlinear ultrasonic waves in an MFT elastic ASWCNT embedded on polymer matrix are studied. Parametric studies is carried out to scrutinize the influence of the nonlocal scaling, magneto-electro-mechanical loadings, foundation parameters, various boundary condition and length on the dimensionless frequency of nanotube. It is noticed that the boundary conditions, nonlocal parameter and tube geometrical parameters have significant effects on dimensionless frequency of nanotubes. Originality/value This paper contributes the analytical model to find the solution of nonlinear ultrasonic waves in an MFT elastic ASWCNT embedded on polymer matrix. It is observed that the increase in the foundation constants raises the stiffness of the medium and the structure is able to attain higher frequency once the edge condition is C-C followed by S-S. Further, it is noticed that the natural frequency is arrived below 1% in both local and nonlocal boundary conditions in the presence of temperature coefficients. Also, it is found that the density and Poisson ratio variation affects the natural frequency with below 2%. The results presented in this study can provide mechanism for the study and design of the nano devices such as component of nano oscillators, micro wave absorbing, nano-electron technology and nano-electro--magneto-mechanical systems that make use of the wave propagation properties of ASWCNTs embedded on polymer matrix.

This paper focuses on development of a new mathematical model and its analytical solution for buckling analysis of elastic columns weakened simultaneously with transverse open cracks and partial longitudinal delamination. Consequently, the analytical solution for buckling loads is derived for the first time. The critical buckling loads are calculated using the proposed analytical model. A parametric study is performed to investigate the effects of transverse crack location and magnitude, length and degree of partial longitudinal delamination, and different boundary conditions on critical buckling loads of weakened columns. It is shown that the critical buckling loads of weakened columns can be greatly affected by all the analyzed parameters. Finally, the presented results can be used as a benchmark solution.

Abstract In this article a mathematical model of single layered nano-fluid lubricated PJB (porous journal bearing) has been formulated. The nano-lubricant's impact on the efficiency of said journal bearing has been studied using modified Darcy's law and boundary conditions. The different nanoparticles often used as an additive in industrial lubricating oils improve their viscosity significantly. The brief description of dimensionless performance characteristics of the investigated bearing was obtained by the use of the nano-lubricant's modified Krieger-Dougherty viscosity model. The observations revealed that the output characteristics are substantially improved by using nano-lubricant. The present study was validated by comparing the findings of recently published data with micropolar fluid and was found to be completely compatible since data with nano-lubricant are still unavailable.

A mathematical model for analyzing Lamb waves propagating in stratified media with arbitrary elastic anisotropy is worked out. The model incorporates a combined Fundamental Matrix (FM) and Modified Transfer Matrix (MTM) methods. Multilayered unbounded plates with different types of boundary conditions imposed on the outer surfaces are considered. Closed form fundamental matrices and secular equations for dispersion relations are derived.

In barrier building constructions the heat transfer occurs both at the expense of thermal conductivity and as a result of liquid and air vapors resistance. The mechanism of such resistance differs from classical processes of diffusion and the laws of hydrodynamics for integral medium. The temperature mode of the surface and deep layers of barrier building constructions in non-symmetric boundary conditions was     analyzed. A mathematical model was developed that characterizes the change in the thermal state of barrier constructions during thermal diffusion. The method for calculating the non-stationary thermal modes of flat walls was presented.
