The Chilean education system requires English language teachers to be equipped with non-conventional teaching strategies that can foster meaningful learning and assure successful learners’ performances in diverse and complex settings. This exploratory, descriptive, research study aimed at discovering the perceptions of 54 pre-service teachers about the impact of a problem-based learning activity in the development of key competencies, including higher order thinking skills and reflective, research, knowledge transfer/integration, social, and self-management skills. Groups of participants chose a made-up, ill-structured problem which combined language teaching and socio-cultural issues, and devised holistic solutions. Findings suggest a comprehensive impact on the first four skills, but a limited impact on social and self-management skills.

The goal of this investigation to implement a problem-based learning model as an effort to improve student learning activities and outcomes. This model of research is a classroom action research divided into two cycles. The study conducted at High School 1 Piyungan class X MIPA 1 totaling 35 students consisting of 15 male and 20 female, the topic used the momentum and impulse of semester 2. The research instrument is observation sheet, achievement test, and questionnaire. The results of the analysis learning model with problem-based learning can increase the activity of studying physics class X MIPA1. Improved physics learning activities of class X MIPA 1 students at High School 1 Piyungan with problem-based learning for the academic year 2018/2019 from the first cycle at the first meeting and the second meeting increased from 84.75% to 91.11% which was 6.36In the second cycle there was an increase from 85.28% to 91.85%, an increase of 6, 57%.

Efforts to increase student self-regulated learning with problem-based learning model use Edmodo AbstractThe purpose of this study is to improve students' self-regulated learning by applying model problem based learning use edmodo. The research method is experimental method with one group pretest posttest research design. The subjects of the study were the students of science class grade XI of SMA Negeri 1 Demak academic year 2017/2018. The aspects of self-regulated learning examined include aspects of preparation, implementation, and evaluation. Data collection techniques used questionnaire of self-regulated learning, interviews of students with low, middle, and high self-regulated learning, student response questionnaires, and learning activity sheet to determine the level of effectiveness of the implementation of problem-based learning model use edmodo. Based on the analysis of research results, the effectiveness level of learning implementation with problem based learning model use edmodo is 94.11%. Increased learning independence is known by using the n-gain test results obtained by 0.32 with middle criteria. The most optimal improvement of independence occurs in indicators of evaluation of learning activities and conclusions of learning experiences. So it can be concluded that the use of edmodo applications in learning can improve student’s self-regulated learning.

The design of this study was a classroom action research design that was done by using two cycles. This study is aimed to find out the appropriate learning steps in the problem based learning method that can improve the creativity in writing speech text of the 3rd semester students in Indonesian Language Education Department. The subject of this study were the 3rd semester students in Indonesian Language Education Department. The data of this study were collected by using three instruments, they are observation, interview, and questionnaire. Besides, the result of this study are the effective learning steps related with the creativity in writing a speech text. Not only to improve the creativity in writing speech text for the college students, the appropriate learning steps in problem based learning method can also improve the learning activity of college students in the classroom. That improvement was proven by their responses which show that they are agree with the application of the problem based learning method. Thus, this study suggested the other researchers that observe this kind of topic to be able to research this kind of study from the other aspects.

This study aims to improve the learning activity and psychomotor ability of Vocational High School (SMK) students in Metal Fabrication Technique on oxyacetillin welding study by using Problem-Based Learning (PBL) method according to Curriculum 2013. The research method uses action research research in two cycles, while each cycle consists of four stages: planning, execution, observation, and reflection. Data was collected using observation method with checklist instrument and rating scale while data was analyzed descriptively. The results showed as follows: 1) the application of PBL method on the learning of Oksi Asetilin Laser can increase student learning activity by 11,20%; 2) improvement of learning result of psychomotor aspect after applying Problem Based Learning by 20,20% with psychomotor aspect ability level that is work preparation and use of tool, systematics and work method, work result, work attitude and speed of doing work (time); 3) after the application of PBL the number of students who reached the Minimum Exhaustiveness Criteria (KKM) on the cognitive aspect learning outcome of 91.31%; and 4) Problem Based Learning is aligned with the scientific approach of the Curriculum 2013.
