The hydrodynamic performance of oscillating water column (OWC) depends on the depth of the water, the size of the water column and its arrangement, which affects the oscillation of the water surface in the column. An experimental method was conducted by testing 4 water depths with wave periods of 1-3 s. All data recorded by the sensor is then processed and presented in graphical form. The research focused on analyzing the difference in wave power absorption capabilities of the three geometric types of OWC based on arrangements of water columns. The OWC devices designed as single water column, the double water column in a series arrangement which was perpendicular to the direction of wave propagation, and double water column in which the arrangement of columns was parallel to the direction of wave propagation. This paper discussed several factors affecting the amount of power absorbed by the device. The factors are the ratio of water depth in its relation to wavelength (kh) and the inlet openings ratio (c/h) of the devices. The test results show that if the water depth increases in the range of kh 0.7 to 0.9, then the performance of the double chamber oscillating water column (DCOWC) device is better than the single chamber oscillating water column (SCOWC) device with maximum efficiency for the parallel arrangement 22,4%, series arrangement 20.8% and single column 20.7%. However, when referring to c/h, the maximum energy absorption efficiency for a single column is 27.7%, double column series arrangement is 23.2%, and double column parallel arrangement is 29.5%. Based on the results of the analysis, DCOWC devices in parallel arrangement showed the ability to absorb better wave power in a broader range of wave frequencies. The best wave of power absorption in the three testing models occurred in the wave period T = 1.3 seconds.

Timber-concrete composite beams are a new type of structural element that is environmentally friendly. The structural efficiency of this kind of beam highly depends on the stiffness of the interlayer connection. The structural efficiency of the composite was evaluated by experimental and theoretical investigations performed on the relative horizontal slip and vertical uplift along the interlayer between composite’s timber and concrete slab. Differential equations were established based on a theoretical analysis of combination effects of interlayer slip and vertical uplift, by using deformation theory of elastics. Subsequently, the differential equations were solved and the magnitude of uplift force at the interlayer was obtained. It was concluded that the theoretical calculations were in good agreement with the results of experimentation.

A new two-column 225Ac/213Bi generator was developed specifically for using 225Ac containing an impurity of long lived 227Ac. The parent 225Ac was retained on the first Actinide Resin column, while 213Bi was accumulated on the second column filled with AG MP-50 resin via continuous elution and decay of intermediate 221Fr. The 213Bi accumulation was realized in circulation mode which allowed a compact generator design. It was demonstrated that 213Bi could be quickly and effectively extracted from AG MP-50 in form of complexes with various chelating agents including DTPA and DOTA. The performance of the generator presented and a conventional single-column generator on the base of AG MP-50 was tested and both generators were loaded with 225Ac containing 227Ac impurity. The 213Bi generation efficiencies were comparable and greater than 70%, whereas the developed generator provided a deeper degree of purification of 213Bi from Ac isotopes and decay products of 227Ac.

The single-column mode (SCM) of the ICON (ICOsahedral Nonhydrostatic) modeling framework is presented. The primary purpose of the ICON SCM is to use it as a tool for research, model evaluation and development. Thanks to the simplified geometry of the ICON SCM, various aspects of the ICON model, in particular the model physics, can be studied in a well-controlled environment. Additionally, the ICON SCM has a reduced computational cost and a low data storage demand. The ICON SCM can be utilized for idealized cases—several well-established cases are already included—or for semi-realistic cases based on analyses or model forecasts. As the case setup is defined by a single NetCDF file, new cases can be prepared easily by the modification of this file. We demonstrate the usage of the ICON SCM for different idealized cases such as shallow convection, stratocumulus clouds, and radiative transfer. Additionally, the ICON SCM is tested for a semi-realistic case together with an equivalent three-dimensional setup and the large eddy simulation mode of ICON. Such consistent comparisons across the hierarchy of ICON configurations are very helpful for model development. The ICON SCM will be implemented into the operational ICON model and will serve as an additional tool for advancing the development of the ICON model.

Traditional single-pixel imaging systems are aimed mainly at relatively static or slowly changing targets. When there is relative motion between the imaging system and the target, sizable deviations between the measurement values and the real values can occur and result in poor image quality of the reconstructed target. To solve this problem, a novel dynamic compressive imaging system is proposed. In this system, a single-column digital micro-mirror device is used to modulate the target image, and the compressive measurement values are obtained for each column of the image. Based on analysis of the measurement values, a new recovery model of dynamic compressive imaging is given. Differing from traditional reconstruction results, the measurement values of any column of vectors in the target image can be used to reconstruct the vectors of two adjacent columns at the same time. Contingent upon characteristics of the results, a method of image quality enhancement based on an overlapping average algorithm is proposed. Simulation experiments and analysis show that the proposed dynamic compressive imaging can effectively reconstruct the target image; and that when the moving speed of the system changes within a certain range, the system reconstructs a better original image. The system overcomes the impact of dynamically changing speeds, and affords significantly better performance than traditional compressive imaging.

Carl Friedrich von Rumohr's Falscher Rehschlegel: at first glance the recipe in his Geist der Kochkunst, Spirit of Cookery of 1822 seems to belong to the category of mockfood - but does that make sense from the pen of a highly rational, reality-obsessed empiricist? Similar instructions for how to prepare meat, notably mutton, as game can be found in a row of popular German cookery books of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, whereas other examples for mockfood in German culinary history are rare and restricted to periods of shortage. So the story behind Rumohr's surprising recipe really is the story of hunting and venison in Germany. The article looks at both and explores their socio-cultural symbolism through the centuries in a gastronomic context.
