The crystal structure of bis(2-chlorophenyl) disulfide has been determined and refined to a residual of 0.035 for 1573 observed reflections. Crystals are monoclinic, space group P21/a with Z 4 in a cell of dimensions a 7.724(1), b 22.360(7), c 7.917(2) � , β 114. 75�. The two chlorophenyl rings are synclinally related with a torsion angle of -85.0 � down the disulfide bond vector.

The crystal structure of an iron(II) complex of 2-(pyridin-2-ylamino)-4-(pyridin-2-yl)tliazoe (paptH) has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffractometry. [Fe(paptH)2] [BF4]2.3H2O is monoclinic, space group P21/c, with Z = 4 in a cell of dimensions a 8.968(6), b 9.038(4), c 41.15(2)�, β 94.81(2)�. The disordered structure was refined to a residual R 0.0826 for 2549 observed reflections. The ligands and anions are orientationally disordered, and the waters of crystallization are positionally disordered. Comprehensive constrained refinement, with 220 parameters for 139 atom positions, produced reliable geometry. The complex cation has a distorted octahedral structure of meridional configuration with both paptH ligands functioning as tridentates.

The crystal structure of 9-oxofluorene-4-carboxylic acid has been determined by direct methods using three-dimensional X-ray diffraction data, and refined to R0·068 for 1323 'observed' reflections. Crystals are monoclinic, space group P21/c with 24 in a cell of dimensions a 3·843(3), b 7·986(5), c 3269(2) �, β 96·64(4)�. The molecules form centrosymmetric hydrogen-bonded cyclic dimers [O···O 2·642(3) �] with the plane of the carboxylic acid making an angle of 26·5� with that of the 9-oxofluorene group. Stacks of molecules form down the a axis with 3.843 �. separation.

The copper(II) complex with citric acid (NH4)4 [Cu(C6H5O7)2] has been prepared, and its structure determined by X-ray diffraction, giving a residual R 0.035 for 1208 observed reflections. Crystals are monoclinic, space group P21/c with Z 2 in a cell of dimensions a 8.755(3), b 13.185(4), c 9.364(2)Ǻ, β 113.73(2)°. The complex is a centrosymmetric six-coordinate monomer which is isomorphous with ammonium zinc(II) citrate. However, the Cu-O(hydroxyl) bonds [2.341(3)Ǻ] show Jahn-Teller distortion relative to the Cu-O(carboxyl) bonds [1.969(3) and 1.977(3)Ǻ].

Vanadium(III) tris(metaphosphate), V(PO3)3, crystallizes in the monoclinic space group Ic with lattice parameters a = 10.615(2), b = 19.095(4), c = 9.432(1) Å, β = 97.94(1)° with Z = 12. The equivalent parameters in the standard space group Cc are a = 13.189(1), b = 19.095(4), c = 9.432(1) Å, and β = 127.15(1)°. The structure was refined by full-matrix least-squares to an R = 0.091 (Rω = 0.065) utilizing 2467 reflections with the atomic positions and their isotropic vibration amplitudes as parameters. The structure consists of infinite chains of PO4 tetrahedra sharing corners with each other and bridged by VO6 octahedra. All oxygen atoms are shared between just two cations. The average [Formula: see text] bond is 1.581 Å while the average of those shared with vanadium is 1.483 Å. The VO6 group is moderately distorted, with differences of less than 0.06 Å between the longest and shortest V—O bond lengths in any of the three distinct VO6 groups. The average V—O bond lengths for the three VO6 groups are 1.995, 1.991, and 1.987 Å. A marked superlattice effect based on a cell with b/3 is noted.

Abstract The molecular structure of the bridged [1]-titanocenophane 1,1'-dimethylsilylene titanocene dichloride, (CH3)2Si(C5H4)2TiCl2, has been investigated by an X-ray structure determination. Crystal data: monoclinic, space group C2/c, Z = 4, a = 1332.9(3), 6 = 988.7(3), c = 1068.9(3) pm, β = 113.43(2)°. The results are compared with the structural dimensions of similar compounds: 1,1'-methylene titanocene dichloride, CH2(C5H4)TiCl2, with the unbridged titanocene dichloride, (C5H5)2TiCl2 and the ethylene-bridged compound (CH2)2(C5H4)2TiCl2

Reaction of a DMF solution of Cu(S2CNC4H8) with [Ph4P]2[WSe4] affords [Ph4P]2[WSe4- (CuS2CNC4H8)3] (1) and [Ph4P][Cu(SeS2CNC4H )(S2CN2C4H8)] (2) in which a Se atom from the decomposition of the WSe42- anion has reacted with the pyrrolidyldithiocarbamate (C4H8dtc) ligand anion to form the new ligand anion SeS2CNC4H8⊖. Complex 2 crystallizes with four formula units in the monoclinic space group P21/c in a cell of dimensions a = 10.5824(2), b = 18.7575(3), c = 18.3268(4) Å and ß = 109.0980(10)°. 6055 independent reflections above background were measured with a diffractometer and the structure was refined anisotropically to R =0.073. The anion contains a three-coordinated copper(I) atom. The C4H8dtc⊖ ligand is bonded to the Cu+ cation in a terminal fashion, while SeS2CNC4H8⊖ chelates the Cu+ cation. The Se-S bond length is 2.231 (4) Å.

AbstractThe new compounds LiK[C(CN)3]2 and Li[C(CN)3]·½ (H3C)2CO were synthesized and their crystal structures were determined. Li[C(CN)3]·½ (H3C)2CO crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Ima2 (no. 46) with the cell parameters a=794.97(14), b=1165.1(2) and c=1485.4(3) pm, while LiK[C(CN)3]2 adopts the monoclinic space group P21/c (no. 14) with the cell parameters a=1265.7(2), b=1068.0(2) and c=778.36(12) pm and the angle β=95.775(7)°. Single crystals of K[C(CN)3] were also acquired, and the crystal structure was refined more precisely than before corroborating earlier results.

The X-ray crystal structure of 3α,4α:5β,6β-diepoxyandrostan-17-one has been determined. Crystals of the title compound (C19H26O3)are monoclinic, space group P21, with a 9.208(2), b 9.620(4), c 9.312(3) �, β 99.14(2)�, V 814.5 Ǻ3 and Z 2. The structure was solved by direct methods and refined to R 0.039 for 887 observed reflexions. The 3α,4α:5β,6β configuration of the epoxide rings confirms the assignment based on proton n.m.r. studies.

By electrochemical oxidation of [B6H6]2- in the presence of nitrite ions and the base DBU in dichloromethane solution mononitropentahydrohexaborate [B6H5(NO2)]2- ions are formed and can be isolated by ion exchange chromatography on diethylaminoethyl cellulose. The crystal structures of the K and Cs salt were determined from single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. K2[B6H5(NO2)] is monoclinic, space group P21/m with a = 5.953(1), b = 8.059(4), c = 8.906(1) Å, β = 109.553(9)°; Cs2[B6H5(NO2)] is monoclinic, space group P21/a with a = 9.438(6), b = 9.644(7), c = 11.138(9) Å, β = 101.44(9)°. The B6 octahedron is compressed in the direction of the B—NO2 bond by about 5%, with bond lengths between 1.67 and 1.77 A.

Abstract The synthesis of salts of the type RnSH3-n+MF6- (R = C2H5, i-C3H7; n = 1, 2; M = As, Sb) by protonation of the corresponding thiols and sulfides in the superacid systems HF/MF5 is reported. The salts have been characterized by vibrational and NMR spectroscopic methods. Isopropylsulfonium hexafluoroantimonate is the first known example of a sulfonium salt, for which a SH bond distance has been determined by a crystal structure analysis, i-C3H7SH2+SbF6- crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/m with a = 568.0(4), b = 801.1(6), c = 1019.7(8) pm, β = 82.63(6) °, with two formula units per unit cell.
