The present study was conducted to examine: (a) the relation of positive psychological strengths, i.e., hope, optimism, self-efficacy and resiliency, with subjective well-being, and (b) the role of social support as a moderator of positive psychological strengths and subjective well-being. The following hypotheses were proposed: (a) that positive psychological strengths would be positively related with subjective well-being and social support; (b) social support would moderate the relation of positive psychological strengths with subjective well-being. 116 men and 64 women ( M age = 21.53 yr., SD = 4.99, range = 33) from India participated. Significant positive relationships were found for positive psychological strengths with subjective well-being and with social support network (family, friends, and others). Regression analysis showed social support significantly moderated the relations of positive psychological strengths with subjective well-being.

This study examined the role of social support and need for support on anxiety among 61 women, graduate students, by administering the Jackson Personality Inventory, the Personality Research Form, and the Social Support Network Inventory. One-way analysis of variance showed a significant effect for source of support on support received. Friends were cited most frequently and graduate advisers the least. Two-way analyses of variance showed significant main effects of need for support and support from adviser on anxiety scores. High scores on anxiety were a function of high need for support and, separately, of low social support. Results are discussed in terms of the need for longitudinal studies of the relationships between these variables to consider implications for adult development.

This exploratory descriptive study, using a qualitative approach, aimed to characterize the social support of nurses in the care of their own children. The participants were ten nurses who were mothers, selected through a snowball method. Data collection occurred from November 2011 to January 2012 through semi-structured interviews and construction of families' genograms and ecomaps. Data were analyzed through Bardin content analysis, leading to the establishment of two categories: (1) Returning to work: the importance of family support and (2) The family and their interactive contexts: types of bonds. The social support network of the family is essential to the lives of these women, who need support, assistance and guidance in directing their activities in everyday overload.
