The purpose of this study was to examine the reliability and validity of the Turkish adapted version of Mathematical Development Beliefs Scale developed by Platas (2015). The scale can also be used to determine preschool teachers’ beliefs about Mathematics education. After obtaining the permission from the developer of the questionnaire, the items of the questionnaire were run through a double-translation process where they were first translated into Turkish and then, retranslated into English. Then, the scale was sent to an expert in the field and the necessary corrections were made. The research was carried out with 203 preschool teachers working at kindergartens in state schools of the Ministry of National Education (MEB) and at kindergartens in private schools in Ankara. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) were applied to the collected data. Based on these analyses, it was found that the adapted scale into Turkish consisted of 40 items, which were and gathered under four factors. The Cronbach alpha coefficient for the overall scale was .86. Test-retest correlation coefficient was found as r= .87. These values indicate that the questionnaire is highly reliable. The scale is found to be valid and reliable and appropriate to use in Turkish culture.

This study was carried out to determine whether there is a relationship between the preschool teachers’ attitudes towards mathematics and mathematical development in 6-year-old preschool children. The sampling of the study was consisted of 30 teachers working with 6 years old children and their 120 students in public kindergartens and independent preschool classrooms in Erzurum City. Teachers’ attitudes towards mathematics education were measured using the “Preschool Teachers’ Attitudes towards Early Mathematics Education Determination Tool” and the levels of mathematical development in children were measured using the “Progress in Math 6 Test”. Collected data were analyzed using both descriptive and predictive statistical methods. Results presented that there was a positive and significant relationship between the preschool teachers’ attitudes towards mathematics and the mathematics development in 6-year-old preschool children. Furthermore, the preschool teachers’ attitudes towards mathematics were also determined to have an effect on the selection of mathematics skill areas included in the programs. According to these results, it can be said that teachers’ attitudes towards mathematics directly affect the mathematical development in children.

The analysis of research works on a problem of readiness of future preschool teachers for mathematical development of children is submitted. The main approaches to the definition of the concept “readiness” are disclosed. Based on the analysis of curricula in the direction of preparation of “Psychological and Pedagogical Education” profile of “Psychology and Pedagogy of Preschool Education”, as well as the professional standard of the teacher, the competencies necessary for the implementation of the mathematical development of children of preschool age are distinguished. The readiness of future preschool teachers for the implementation of the mathematical development of children is considered through system, activity and competence-based approaches, which allows us to define this concept and consider the process of formation of this readiness from different angles. Generalizing the experience described in psychological and pedagogical literature and dissertation researches on this problem, the components of readiness of future preschool teachers for mathematical development of children, such as cognitive, praxeological and axiological are allocated and characterized. On the basis of the allocated components, criteria and levels of formation of this readiness are defined. The purpose of the article is to give an author’s idea of the structure and content of the professional readiness of future teachers of preschool education for the mathematical development of children.
