Objectives: The present study aimed to identify the perceived postpartum stress among postnatal mothers, identify coping strategies adopted by postnatal mothers, find out correlation between the level of perceived postpartum stress and coping strategies among postnatal mothers and find out the association between the level of perceived postpartum stress and demographic variables.Methods: A quantitative descriptive study was conducted among 100 postnatal mothers. Convenience sampling technique was used. Hung postpartum stress scale and coping strategies inventory short form were used for the assessment of postpartum stress and coping strategies.Results: Among the 100 participants, 63% of the postnatal mothers had mild stress, 33% had moderate stress, and only 4% had severe stress. Majority of the mothers were used problem-focused engagement as a coping strategy. There was a positive correlation found between the level of perceived postpartum stress and coping strategies such as emotion-focused engagement and emotion-focused disengagement. There was significant association found between the level of perceived postpartum stress and demographic variables such as age, education, length of marriage, status of pregnancy, method of baby feeding, pregnancy events, intrapartum events, birth weight of baby, child birth experience, status of newborn, and postpartum events.Conclusion: The high proportion and severity of postpartum stress observed among this study group proves that postpartum stress is common and cannot be ignored.

Teaching has emerged as one of the most stressful professions in the last two decades. The need for knowledge for personal growth and national development puts pressure on the teachers to facilitate the achievement of these goals. Teachers in Borstal institutions are expected to teach and rehabilitate young convicts for re-integration into the society. The desire to find out sources of stress and coping strategies among teachers in Borstal institutions has necessitated an empirical study. The current study focuses on sources of occupational stress and coping strategies among teachers in Borstal institutions in Kenya. Phenomenology study design was used and purposive sampling in particular maximum variation was used to select the study participants. Results indicated that working conditions, living conditions and lack of resources were the main sources of stressors, while physical exercises, religious intervention, use of alcohol were among the coping strategies used. Lack of professional counseling services also emerged as a situation that lead to high stress levels.

В статье рассматриваются проблемные вопросы психологии совладания субъекта со стрессовыми ситуациями в профессиональной сфере жизнедеятельности. Предмет исследования — совладание педагогов-психологов со стрессом в профессиональной деятельности. Цель исследования — определить влияние стратегий совладающего поведения на развитие профессионального стресса у педагогов-психологов. Методы исследования: тестирование, методы описательной статистики, множественный регрессионный анализ, U-критерий Манна — Уитни. Приведены результаты эмпирического исследования профессионального стресса и копинга у педагогов-психологов, работающих в системе общего среднего образования Российской Федерации и Республики Беларусь. Раскрыты уровни выраженности стресса и специфические особенности копинга со стрессорами в деятельности у педагогов-психологов с разной длительностью стажа профессиональной деятельности. Результаты исследования свидетельствуют о необходимости обучения педагогов-психологов навыкам саморегуляции эмоциональных состояний для повышения стрессоустойчивости и могут использоваться при разработке программ профилактики эмоционального выгорания и стрессовых состояний у представителей социономических профессий. The article treats some problematic issues of coping with stressful situations in career-related situations. The object of the research is educational psychologists’ coping skills that help them cope with stress in their professional activities. The aim of the research is to identify the influence of coping strategies on the development of occupational stress in educational psychologists. The methods of the research are the following: test, descriptive statistics, multiple regression analysis, the Mann-Whitney U test. The article provides the results of an empirical research of occupational stress and coping strategies in educational psychologists working in the system of compulsory secondary education in the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus. The article reveals the levels of stress manifestation and specific coping strategies in educational psychologists with different professional records. The results of the research show that it is essential that educational psychologists should be taught to self-regulate their emotional conditions and cope with stressful situations in an effective way. The results of the research can be used to develop a training course aimed at preventing emotional burnout and stress in representatives of socionomic professions.
