High-performance conjugated polymer microfibers were fabricated via wet-spinning followed by hot-drawing. With a combination of solvent doping and de-doping, we achieved a record electrical conductivity of 2804 S cm−1.

Hybrid superplastic forming (SPF) is a novel sheet metal forming technique that combines hot drawing with gas forming process. Compared with the conventional SPF process, the thickness distribution of AZ31B part formed by this hybrid SPF method has been significantly improved. Additionally, the microstructure evolution of AZ31 was examined by electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). Many subgrains with low misorientation angle were observed in the coarse grains during SPF. Based on the tensile test results, parameters of hyperbolic sine creep law model was determined at 400 oC. The hybrid SPF behavior of non-superplastic grade AZ31B was predicted by ABAQUS using this material forming model. The FEM results of thickness distribution, thinning characteristics and forming height were compared with the experimental results and have shown reasonable agreement with each other.

An integral manufacturing process with hot drawing and cold flow forming was proposed for large-diameter seamless steel gas cylinders. The main purpose of this study was to find out the effects of the manufacturing process on the microstructure and mechanical properties of gas cylinders made of 34CrMo4 steel. Two preformed cylinders were produced by hot drawing. One cylinder was then further manufactured by cold flow forming. The experiments were carried out using three types of material sample, namely, base material (BM), hot drawing cylinder (HD), and cold flow-formed cylinder (CF). Tensile and impact tests were performed to examine the mechanical properties of the cylinders in longitudinal and transverse directions. Microstructure evolution was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) to reveal the relation between the mechanical properties and the microstructure of the material. It is found that the mechanical properties of the 34CrMo4 steel gas cylinders were significantly improved after hot drawing and flow forming plus a designed heat treatment, compared with the base material. The observations of microstructure features such as grain size, subgrain boundaries, and residual strain support the increase in mechanical properties due to the proposed manufacturing process.

Hot-drawing of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fibers is an important step in the production of carbon fibers. In this article, we investigated the effect of strain on the crystallization behavior and mechanical properties of PAN fibers treated in supercritical carbon dioxide (Sc-CO2) fluid. We mainly used the methods of X-ray diffraction (XRD), monofilament strength analysis and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) to study the crystallization behavior, mechanical properties and thermal behavior of PAN fibers during hot-drawing process. The experimental results showed that the crystallinity and mechanical properties of PAN fibers both increased a lot under the action of strain during hot-drawing in Sc-CO2 fluid. This provides an important method for preparation of higher performance PAN precursor for PAN-based carbon fibers.
