The paper examines current trends towards the enhancement of criminalistic tactics and mechanisms of criminal and international law in the context of cooperation between European states in transnational crime detection and investigation. Both traditional and new forms (types) of providing legal assistance in criminal cases are elucidated. It is observed that at the present stage procedures for legal assistance in criminal investigations have become more streamlined and efficient, and request processing times have been reduced.

The factors affecting the penetration of certain diseases such as COVID-19 in society are still unknown. Internet of Things (IoT) technologies can play a crucial role during the time of crisis and they can provide a more holistic view of the reasons that govern the outbreak of a contagious disease. The understanding of COVID-19 will be enriched by the analysis of data related to the phenomena, and this data can be collected using IoT sensors. In this paper, we show an integrated solution based on IoT technologies that can serve as opportunistic health data acquisition agents for combating the pandemic of COVID-19, named CIoTVID. The platform is composed of four layers—data acquisition, data aggregation, machine intelligence and services, within the solution. To demonstrate its validity, the solution has been tested with a use case based on creating a classifier of medical conditions using real data of voice, performing successfully. The layer of data aggregation is particularly relevant in this kind of solution as the data coming from medical devices has a very different nature to that coming from electronic sensors. Due to the adaptability of the platform to heterogeneous data and volumes of data; individuals, policymakers, and clinics could benefit from it to fight the propagation of the pandemic.

Monitoring of industrial cyber-physical systems (CPS) is an ongoing process necessary to ensure their security. The effectiveness of information security monitoring depends on the quality and speed of collection, processing, and analyzing of heterogeneous CPS data. Today, there are many methods of analysis for solving security problems of distributed industrial CPS. These methods have different requirements for the input data characteristics, but there are common features in them due to the subject area. The work is devoted to preliminary data processing for the security monitoring of industrial CPS in modern conditions. The general architecture defines the use of aggregation and normalization methods for data preprocessing. The work includes the issue from the requirements for the preprocessing system, the specifics of the subject area, to the general architecture and specific methods of multidimensional data aggregation.

The normal distribution of a random variable is usually used in studies of the probabilistic properties of information systems. Using the normal distribution to approximate the distributions determined over a bounded distorts the physical meaning of the model and the numerical results obtained can only be used as an initial approximation. The purpose of the work is to improve methods for calculating the probability properties of infocommunication systems. The object of study is an analytical method for calculating the request processing time in the system, the subject is the formula for calculating the duration of sequential processing of a request by elements of the system with uniformly distributed independent random processing times. For positive random variables, it is proposed to use finite-interval distribution laws, for example, beta distribution. Density formulas and probability functions for the sums of two, three, and four independent randomly distributed variables are given.

Aiming at the transmission of heterogeneous data in heterogeneous networks, a topology optimization algorithm of heterogeneous wireless sensor networks based on local tree reconstruction is proposed, which can achieve better data transmission in the heterogeneous networks. First, the algorithm divides the nodes of the network into different layers by their hops and chooses different numbers of nodes as relay nodes in different layers. Second, the nodes are set with different initial energies in different layers. Because the packets of different nodes have different sizes, we adopt the corresponding data aggregation coefficients according to the actual data requirements of the network in data transmission. Finally, the lifetime of the network is prolonged by real-time updating of the topology of the tree during the data transmission. The simulations indicate that after the aforementioned three steps, the proposed algorithm prolongs the lifetime of the heterogeneous networks and improves the nodes utilization effectively.

Over the years, many techniques and products have been developed to reduce the amount of time spent in a darkroom processing electron microscopy negatives and micrographs. One of the latest tools, effective in this effort, is the Mohr/Pro-8 film and rc paper processor. At the time of writing, a unit has been recently installed in the photographic facilities of the Electron Microscopy Center at Texas A&M University. It is being evaluated for use with TEM sheet film, SEM sheet film, 35mm roll film (B&W), and rc paper.Originally designed for use in the phototypesetting industry, this processor has only recently been introduced to the field of electron microscopy. The unit is a tabletop model, approximately 1.5 × 1.5 × 2.0 ft, and uses a roller transport method of processing. It has an adjustable processing time of 2 to 6.5 minutes, dry-to-dry. The installed unit has an extended processing switch, enabling processing times of 8 to 14 minutes to be selected.
