Abstract The response function of the recoil nuclei in detectors designed for detection of neutrinos or dark matter particles can be determined only through usage of a neutron source with a known energy spectrum. A possible solution for a compact neutron calibration source is a combination of a 252Cf neutron source and a semiconductor detector that detects fission fragments, and thus records the neutron emission moment. This work is devoted to the degradation study of the operating parameters for silicon semiconductor detectors irradiated by fission fragments of the nuclide of 252 Cf. Two types of Si detectors were under investigations - silicon-lithium Si(Li) p-i-n detectors and silicon surface barrier detectors. As a result of the measurements, the maximum permissible radiation doses for the correct operation of both types of detectors and the relation of the received radiation dose to the spectroscopic characteristics of the detectors were determined.

The angular distribution of fission fragments has been measured for proton-induced fission of 197 Au and 209 Bi nuclei at several energies between 25 and 30 MeV using surface-barrier detectors. The measured anisotropies are found to be in agreement with the predictions of the standard saddle-point statistical model. The measured anisotropies for neither of the nuclei show any anomalous behavior as a function of both energy and entrance channel mass asymmetry. The fission cross sections of 197 Au and 209 Bi nuclei were also measured and compared with that of the previous works.

U 235 fission products of known mass number ( = 135) and energy ( = 74.35 MeV) are scattered from polycristalline gold layers of about 1000 Å and 0.4 mm thickness at different angles of incidence (5°, 10°, 15° and 20° towards the surface) The reflected particles are traced by glass plates and Si surface barrier detectors. From the numbers, the positions and the diameters of the etched traces in the glass plates the percentages of the backscattering, the angular distributions, and the energies of the reflected particles are obtained

The re-analysis of experimental data on mass measurements of ura- nium fission products obtained at the ESR in 2002 is discussed. State-of-the-art data analysis procedures developed for such measurements are employed.
