This study aims to describe mathematical problem-solving ability based on the level of self-confidence. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive study with a quantitative approach. The data collection technique in this research is to provide test (10 multiple choice questions and 2 description questions), questionnaires, and interviews. The results showed that students with high level of self-confidence with high mathematical problem-solving abilities were able to achieve 3 out of 4 indicators of assessing problem solving abilities well, namely indicators of understanding problems, devising a plan, and carrying out the plans. Students with high level of self-confidence with moderate math problem solving abilities are able to achieve 1 of 4 indicators well, namely carrying out the plans, achieve 2 of the 4 indicators quite well, namely indicators of understanding problems and devising a plan, and less able to achieve 1 of 4 indicators namely looking back indicators. Students with high level of self-confidence with low math problem solving abilities are able to achieve 1 of 4 indicators well, namely indicators of understanding the problem. However, it does not reach 3 indicators, namely devising plans, is carrying out the plan and looking back.

Mathematics is a compulsory subject in all of Indonesian high school. Problem solving ability is a competency that must be possessed in learning mathematics. The purpose of this study was to examine the variables that affect the ability to solve mathematical problems. These variables are self confidence, self efficacy, emotional intelligence, and the ability to understand concepts. This is a survey research, with a sample of 100 people. The sample was selected by simple random technique from all high school students in Bengkulu City. There are five instruments of this research, namely a test of mathematical problem-solving ability, a concept comprehension ability test, and three questionnaires for self confidence, self efficacy, as well as an emotional intelligence questionnaire. Research data were analyzed through path analysis using SPSS and the Lisrel Application Program. The results of this study were the variables of self confidence, self efficacy, emotional intelligence, and the ability to understand concepts have a direct positive effect on the ability to solve mathematical problems. From this research, we conclude that the ability to solve mathematical problems through self-confidence, self-efficacy, emotional intelligence, and the ability to understand concepts students were in a good category.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study is to examine the achievement of mathematical problem-solving abilities of junior high school students whose learning uses the open-ended approach. The subjects of this study were all eighth-grade junior high school students in Bandung regency, the sample was one of the schools in Bandung regency, class VIII A as an experimental class that received treatment with an open-ended approach and class VIII B as a control class that received treatment with a scientific approach. The instrument used in this study was in the form of a test of mathematical problem-solving abilities totaling 5 items of description items. Data obtained from the results of the pretest and posttest are then processed using Microsoft Excel software. The results showed that the achievement of students' mathematical problem-solving abilities for learning using the open-ended approach was better than learning using the scientific approach. Keywords: problem solving abilities, open ended approach, scientific approach.

This study is a pre test-post-test experimental control group design having a goal to analyze the role of problem-based learning on students’ mathematical problem-solving ability (MPSA) and self-confidence (MSC). The study involves 66 tenth grade students, a mathematical problem-solving test, a mathematical self-confidence scale, and perception of problem-based learning (PBL) approach scale. The study found that on MPSA, its gain, and on MSC students getting treatment with PBL approach obtained better grade than that of students taught by conventional teaching. The other findings, there was the high association between MPSA and MSC, and student performed positive opinion toward PBL approach.

The mathematics problem-solving ability of students in Indonesia is not high yet. The students found it difficult to do the mathematics problems that lead to solving a problem. This study aims to improve students' mathematical problem-solving skills using the Edmodo platform. The study used a quasi-experimental design to find out whether the enhancement of students' mathematical problem-solving abilities that obtain using the Edmodo Platform with a scientific approach is significantly higher than the students who obtain scientific approach learning models. The sample of the research was students in two classes X grade student Negeri 1 Parongpong, West Bandung 2019/2020. The first-class students obtained an using the Edmodo Platform with a scientific approach, while the students in the second class obtained a scientific approach learning with a scientific approach. The results showed that the enhancement of the students' mathematical problem-solving abilities in both classes was included in the moderate category. Based on the statistical tests, the students in the first class have a significant enhancement in mathematical problem-solving abilities compared with the students in the second class. Furthermore, student responses to use the Edmodo Platform with a scientific approach are categorized as "very like" and student responses to a scientific approach are categorized as "very like".

This study aims to know in depth about the relationship of self-confidence simultaneously to the ability of solving mathematical problems of high school students. The population in this research is one of the high schools in Cililin. The instrument in this research is a test of mathematical problem solving ability of five items, and self confidence questionnaire of students. Methods in this research use correlational research. The results of this research show that there is a relationship between self confidence on the problem solving ability of high school students is correlation value (r) on Pearson Corellation between self confidence with students mathematical problem solving ability is equal to 0,824. From these results indicate the level of relationships that are strong and indicate the direction of a positive relationship.

This study aims to identify the attitudes of students on the ability to solve problems with mathematics. The attitudes of students evaluated in this study include self-confidence, anxiety, enthusiasm, and self-regulated mathematics learning. The research subjects were 79 students in grade VIII. The researcher re-concentrated on three students from all of them, who had mathematical problem-solving skills in the high, medium, and low groups. These subjects were selected from students who focused on problem-solving mathematical skills, questionnaires on the attitudes of students, and interviews with researchers. The instruments used to collect were an instrument of problem-solving mathematical ability and an instrument of students’ attitudes in the form of student attitudes towards mathematics questionnaire. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The findings have shown that the majority of students are balanced between excited and unexcited on mathematics. The majority reason for students who are enthusiastic about mathematics is that they can improve their abilities, talents, and knowledge. Others have different explanations such as having the resources; formulas and problems, making them feel challenged; thinking that mathematics is important. The majority of students had a low category of self-confidence and anxiety towards mathematics, and had a moderate level of enthusiasm in mathematics and self-regulated learning.
