Purpose In this study, a solar water heating system along with a seasonal thermal energy storage and a heat pump is designed for a villa with an area of 192 m2 in Tehran, the capital of Iran. Design/methodology/approach According to the material and the area of the residential space, the required heating of the building was calculated manually and then the thermodynamic analysis of the system and simulation was done in MATLAB software. Finally, regarding the waste of system, an efficient solar heating system, providing all the required energy to heat the building, was obtained. Findings The surface area of the solar collector is equal to 46 m2, the capacity of the tank is about 2,850 m3, insulation thickness stands at 55 cm and the coefficient of performance in required heat pump is accounted to about 9.02. Also, according to the assessments, the maximum level of received energy by the collector in this system occurs at a maximum temperature of 68ºC. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, in the present work, for the first time, using mathematical modeling and analyzing of the first and second laws of thermodynamics, as well as using of computational code in MATLAB software environment, the solar-assisted ground source heat pump system is simulated in a residential unit located in Tehran.

This study deals with the launch time of main characteristic of NH3-H 2O absorption chiller under different working condition. The aim of this work was about to scrutinize a lumped-parameter dynamic simulation of aqua-ammonia absorption chiller in addition to investigating the effect of subcooled liquid at condenser/absorber outlet on absorption chiller’s key parameters launch time. Also, the effect of ambient temperature on absorption chiller’s key parameters’ launch time is studied. In order to determine the thermodynamic properties of the working fluid, the Engineering Equation Solver software is applied. By making a link between Engineering Equation Solver and MATLAB software, the differential equations are solved in the MATLAB software environment by fourth-order Rung–Kutta method. According to the result, increase of the sub-cool liquid temperature at condenser outlet has no effect on absorption chiller’s key parameters’ launch time. Besides, 10 ℃-increase in subcooled liquid temperature at the absorber outlet leads to decreasing the launch time of the coefficient of performance to 19.35%. The result shows that if cooling tower temperature goes from 22 ℃ to 30 ℃, launch time of the coefficient of performance rises by 10.43%, while evaporator heat transfer rate falls by 30%. To validate the dynamic model, the results deduced from numerical simulation are compared with peer steady–state results.

The paper considers the main issues of increasing the operational reliability of low-voltage asynchronous electric motors based on a set of studies performed using simulations in the Simulink Matlab software environment. The study defines the allowable operation of asynchronous electric motors under the influence of operational factors. We have conducted the analysis and discussion of the research results and suggested measures aiming to increase the operational reliability of asynchronous electric motors.

TARGET. The purpose of this work is to develop a method for diagnostics of equipment of sucker rod pumping units (SRPU) during operation according to the parameters of the wattmetrogram. A wattmetering module is used as a measuring element, the developed software in the MatLab software package serves as a tool for processing vibration signals. The technical condition of the sucker rod pumping unit is analyzed by the parameters of the wattmetrogram and the amplitude spectra of the object under study, formed using the fast Fourier transform procedure in the MatLab software environment.METHODS. The wattmetering method allows you to control the sucker rod-pumping unit during its operation under voltage. This control method is highly accurate, sensitive to developing defects, and allows the use of computer technologies for signal processing and analysis.RESULTS. The wattmetering method is fully disclosed. The construction of the spectrum is considered. The relationship between the wattmetrogram and the dynamogram has been established. The removal and evaluation of experimental data from the operating sucker-rod pumping unit during its operation was carried out. A wattmetrogram and a dynamogram were built, a spectrum was also built, which showed the presence of defects in this installation.CONCLUSION. This method of wattmetering with the MatLab software allows you to monitor the technical condition of the sucker rod pumping unit according to the amplitude-frequency characteristics of the wattmetrogram parameters.

The following article considers mathematic modeling of hydroimpulsive power systems. Using the MATLab software environment the author studies the influence of design parameters on the formed impulse. Consequently a new headless hydroimpulsive power mechanism is offered and described in detail and a basic diagram is given. This system can be used for designing new hydroimpulsive rock-drilling machines to intensify the process of drilling.
