Anarchy and Qualitative Methods

What is anarchist theory and practice? What does it mean when anarchists engage with qualitative research? Anarchism has a long-standing history within radical political action that has been enacted at particular historical times and spaces. The Spanish Civil War, Paris 1968, and the so-called Battle of Seattle in 1999 saw the potential of anarchism as both a mode of critique and way(s) in which to think about direct political action. However, little has been done within the critical qualitative research project to engage with the ideas and critiques that anarchism offers researchers to think about and inform their own work. Resisting hierarchies and their arrangements, challenging domination and relationships of power, rethinking praxis and direct action in qualitative research, and envisioning a utopian social and political imagination have been just a few of the political and epistemological projects that anarchists have undertaken that have direct implications for qualitative researchers. In thinking about future potentials, it has become imperative that critical qualitative researchers engage with anarchist theory and its critiques to better inform its own assumptions when thinking about the roles that qualitative research plays in resisting and altering oppressive social, political, and economic conditions.

The perception of women as the number two role in society continues to this day. This knowledge has an impact on women's inferiority and subordination. In addition, the conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic have increased the workload for women at home. The workload for women has increased threefold, including earning a living in it. The woman breadwinner in Kampung Kue Rungkut Lor II experienced this during the pandemic. This article uses qualitative research methods and a phenomenological approach, in order to obtain data on the quality of life in the Kampung Kue Rungkut Lor II community. The purpose of this study was to determine descriptively the condition of women breadwinners during the pandemic. As a result, the “Pembatasan Sosial Berskala Besar” (PSBB) affected the economic conditions in the Kampung Kue Rungkut Lor II community, and women also experienced three times more workload than men at home. The implementation of PPL subjects is different from other subjects that are attended in class or held on campus in both theory and practice. In contrast to PPL subjects are subjects in the form of field experience practices as are the activities of teachers in general schools. The method used in this study is a qualitative method (<em>qualitative research</em>). This study uses descriptive analytic approach, which is descriptive descriptive data, and is interpreted in depth based on the perspective of emic that is the presentation of data naturally without doing a manipulation or treatment of the subjects studied (Bogdan and Taylor, 1975: 31). Competence of PPL students is marked by increasing the four competencies: pedagogic competence, personality competence, professional competence, and social competence. The knowledge that PPL students, pamong teachers, and lecturers have has an enormous role in PPL implementation. While the role of PPL groups and principals have less role in the implementation of PPL.</strong></p><p> </p><p><strong><em>Keywords -</em></strong> <em>PPL Students, Pedagogic Competence, Personality Competence, Professional Competence,Social Competence.</em></p>

What strategies should be adopted to select cases in a qualitative research ? Illustration from a comparative study on the changes in the structure of the executive branch in Ecuador. In a qualitative research design – particularly a comparative one - case selection is undoubtedly one of the most critical issues. The literature proposes a series of individual selection strategies, but in practice, researchers use them in combination. This discrepancy between theory and practice motivated us to propose a sequential combination of qualitative techniques for case selection that meet four objectives: to achieve variation in outcome, to respect the diversity of the set, to highlight the different degrees of a continuum, and to highlight the substantial importance of each case. The process was carried out in two stages: first, a pre-selection made directly by the researcher, and second the selection itself, carried out with the participation of experts by means of the Delphi method. The empirical basis of the proposal is the design of a comparative research on changes in the structure of executive power in Ecuador during the three presidential terms of Rafael Correa Delgado (2007–2009, 2009–2013, 2013–2017).

This article traces the development of Blackout Poetic Transcription (BPT) as a critical methodology for artist-scholars engaged with Hip Hop pedagogy in higher education spaces.  We include Keith’s outline of the BPT method and Endsly’s first hand account of implementing the practice in an undergraduate classroom. Together, the authors grapple with mainstream and alternative identities within their Hip Hop praxis as spoken word artists and educators.

This essay takes up the concept of “thresholds” as it was developed in the Spring 2014 issue of Departures in Critical Qualitative Research. It opens up a fertile seam of thought about encounters with people labeled as “disabled” and with one's own child in particular. The article troubles the processes of normalization, and opens up the space of difference by excavating its unspeakability. The stories of two mothers and their disabled children are told using the concept of thresholds to examine their encounters with (the difference of) their children. The essay concludes with implications for professional practice.
