Abstract Cow disposition has been reported to impact calf performance. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between cow disposition at calving to calf weaning performance. Data were collected from four University of Arkansas research locations on both spring and fall calving herds between August 2017 and May 2018.Cow behavior was observed at calving and received a disposition score (CDS) taken on a 5-point scale where a score of 1 was highly aggressive, and a 5 was apathetic. Calf birthweight (BW), birthdate, and sex were also noted. At weaning, calf weight (WW) was recorded and used to calculate a 205-day adjusted weaning weight (AWW). Calf chute behavior (CS) was taken on a 5-point scale; a score of 1 was indicative of a calm exit, and a 5 was aggressive when exiting the chute. Data were analyzed using the GLIMMIX procedure of SAS. Significance was declared at P ≤ 0.05. Cow Disposition Score had an effect on calf BW (P = 0.0037). Cows that received a disposition score of 2 or 3 had greater calf BW than those who had a disposition score of 4 (P = 0.0021) and (P = 0.0017), respectively. Cow Disposition Score had no effect on calf WW or AWW. Chute Score had an effect on WW (P ≤ 0.05). Calves with a CS of 1 had higher WW than those who had a CS of 2 or 3 (P = 0.028) and (P = 0.005), respectively. Chute Score had an effect on AWW (P = 0.003). Calves that received a CS of 1 had higher AWW than those who had a CS of 2 or 3 (P = 0.0023) and (P = 0.0002), respectively. This study indicates that cows with more aggressive dispositions at calving and calves who had calmer dispositions at weaning had higher performance.

Maternal disposition at calving and calf chute behavior at weaning data were collected from the University of Arkansas between August 2017 and May 2018. Calves were finished at Oklahoma State University Willard Sparks Research Center between October 2018 and August 2019. Cow behavior was observed at calving and received a disposition score (CDS) that used a 5-point scale where a score of 1 was highly aggressive, and a 5 was apathetic. At weaning, calf weight (WW) and chute behavior (CS) was recorded. Chute behavior at weaning used a 5-point scale; a score of 1 was indicative of a calm exit, and a 5 was aggressive when exiting the chute. Data were analyzed using the GLIMMIX procedure of SAS. Significance was declared at P ≤ 0.05. Calves with CS of 2 at weaning had greater BW both on arrival to feed yard (P < 0.01) and at harvest (P = 0.01) than calves with a CS of 3. Calves from cows with CDS of 3 had greater feedlot arrival weights (P = 0.01) and ADG (P = 0.01) than calves from cows with CDS of 4. This study indicates that cattle with nervous chute behavior (CS = 3) had potentially detrimental effects on performance and can impact overall life-time productivity.

Abstract Foot soundness is essential for optimum performance in beef cattle. When evaluating foot soundness, emphasis is placed on foot angle (FA) and claw set (CS). The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of foot angle and claw set scores on cowherd performance. Data were collected on 491 crossbred Angus-based cows over a three-year period. At weaning, FA and CS were evaluated according to American Angus Association guidelines. Scores are based on a nine-point scale, where a score of one indicates straight pasterns and short, divergent toes, and nine indicates weak, sunken pasterns and long, curled toes. Cows that exhibited scores ranging from four to six were considered acceptable. If either score fell outside this range, the cow was considered undesirable. Acceptable and undesirable cows were evaluated for performance traits including pre-breeding body weight (PBW), pre-breeding body condition score (PBCS), cow body weight at weaning (CWW), cow body condition score at weaning (WBCS), pregnancy rate, 205 d adjusted weaning weight (AWW), and weaning performance (WP). Data were analyzed using the GLIMMIX procedure of SAS. Significance was declared at P ≤ 0.05. There were no differences (P ≥ 0.19) for WP, PBW, PBCS, CWW, or pregnancy rate. Cows with acceptable foot scores had a WBCS 5.49% greater (P < 0.001) than undesirable cows. Acceptable cows possessed an average WBCS of 4.9 compared to 4.6 in undesirable cows. Acceptable cows weaned calves 3.39% heavier (P = 0.024) compared to undesirable cows. Acceptable cows weaned calves with a mean AWW of 216.67 kg compared to undesirable cows with a mean of 209.56 kg. The results from this study suggest that cows with acceptable foot scores may maintain more desirable BCS and wean heavier calves. These results could be used to help predict cow performance based on FA and CS.

Faculty engagement has been proved to be a critical driver of the universities’ efficiency and effectiveness. The first step towards building an engaged workforce is to get a measure of faculty perceptions of their engagement level to their universities. Accordingly, the purpose of this paper is to investigate the faculty members' engagement in the Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University. It examines the relationship between the faculty professional variablesand their level of engagement to their institutions. William Kahn's (1990) three-component model of employee engagement was partially adapted as a framework to measure the faculty members' engagement. A questionnaire was used to better address the objective of this study. The data were obtained from the Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University (Dammam University) through an internet-based survey. The validity and the reliability of the questionnaire has been evaluated and reported. Results of the analyses show that cognitive engagement is reported to be higher than both the emotional and physical engagement, with a mean rating of 4.040 and a standard deviation of .487, based on the five-point scale. Given the engagement level of the faculty members in this study, the university administrators should develop policies, and strategies that encourage and support engagement among faculty members at the University in order to maximize their engagement. Policy makers must also take into consideration the needs of the faculty members

<b><i>Purpose:</i></b> The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical application of the Intelligibility in Context Scale (ICS) instrument in children with velopharyngeal insufficiency (VPI). This study investigated the relationship between clinical speech outcomes and parental reports of speech intelligibility across various communicative partners. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> The ICS was completed by the parents of 20 English-speaking children aged 4–12 years diagnosed with VPI. The parents were asked to rate their children’s speech intelligibility across communication partners using a 5-point scale. Clinical metrics obtained using standard clinical transcription on the Picture-Cued SNAP-R Test were: (1) percentage of consonants correct (PCC), (2) percentage of vowels correct (PVC), and (3) percentage of phonemes correct (PPC). Nasalance from nasometer data was included as an indirect measure of nasality. Intelligibility scores obtained from naive listener’s transcriptions and speech-language pathologists’ (SLP) ratings were compared with the ICS results. <b><i>Result:</i></b> Greater PCC, PPC, PVC, and transcription-based intelligibility values were significantly associated with higher ICS values, respectively (<i>r</i>[20] = 0.84, 0.82, 0.51, and 0.70, respectively; <i>p</i> &#x3c; 0.05 in all cases). There was a negative and significant correlation between ICS mean scores and SLP ratings of intelligibility (<i>r</i> = –0.74; <i>p</i> &#x3c; 0.001). There was no significant correlation between ICS values and nasalance scores (<i>r</i>[20] = –0.28; <i>p</i> = 0.22). <b><i>Conclusion:</i></b> The high correlations obtained between the ICS with PCC and PPC measures indicate that articulation accuracy has had a great impact on parents’ decision-making regarding intelligibility in this population. Significant agreement among ICS scores with naive listener transcriptions and clinical ratings supports use of the ICS in practice.

PURPOSE: To report the outcomes of primary palatoplasty in Robin Sequence (RS); to verify the relationship between modalities of assessment of nasality; to compare nasality between techniques at palatoplasty. METHODS: This study involved the identification of hypernasality in four modalities: live assessment with 4-point scale; live assessment with cul-de-sac test; multiple listeners' ratings of recorded phrase; nasometric assessment. Live ratings of speech nasality and nasalance scores were retrieved from charts, while a recorded phrase was rated by listeners for occurrence of hypernasality. Agreement between the modalities was established as well as association between nasality, nasal turbulence and age at surgery and at assessment. Fisher's exact test was used to compare findings between surgical techniques. RESULTS: Agreement between nasalance, live assessment with 4-point scale, live assessment with cul-de-sac, and multiple listeners' ratings of recorded samples ranged between reasonable (0.32) and perfect (1.00). Percentage occurrence of hypernasality varied largely between assessment modalities. Mean occurrence of hypernasality was lower for the group submitted to Furlow technique (26%) than the group that received von Langenbeck technique (53%). Only findings obtained live were statistically significant (scale: p=0.012; cul-de-sac: p<0.001). Listeners identified nasal turbulence for 22 (32%) samples out of the 69 recordings, and an association was found between hypernasality and nasal turbulence. CONCLUSION: Lower occurrence of hypernasality was identified for patients with RS in Furlow group. Identification of hypernasality varied largely among the four assessment modalities.

The study was conducted to see the relationship between students’ attitude towards disability with reference to age, gender and education. The main aim of this study was to assess whether older students has positive attitude than younger; whether boys and girls have different attitude towards disability and whether the there is any impact of education on attitude toward disability? Method: Data was collected from general population through random sampling technique from six different schools. Participants were selected from the four classes (9, 10 11, and 12) with equal number of Boys and girls. To assess the Attitude towards disability, the Harold E. Yuker J. R. BlockJanet H. Youinng 6 point scale with 20 items scale was administered. Results: In this study positive correlation was found between ATDP & Age, ATDP & Education, and Negative correlation between ATDP and Gender was found. Conclusions: Participant’s Age and Education have positive relationship with their attitudes towards disability; negative relationships was found between gender and attitude towards disability.

Objective: The CIS has been shown to be a predictor of good clinical outcome following endovascular therapy for acute ischemic stroke. We undertook this study to determine the relationship between CIS and baseline diffusion-perfusion imaging as well as angiographic collaterals in DEFUSE 2 study patients. Methods: Patients undergoing endovascular therapy within 12 hours of stroke onset were prospectively enrolled. Only patients with an ICA/M1 occlusion and adequate demonstration of the anterior and posterior circulations at baseline angiography were included in this analysis. Blinded reading of the CIS was made using a 4 point scale from 0 (no capillary blush in ischemic territory) to 3 (blush throughout). Analysis was dichotomized to poor CIS (0-1) versus good (2-3). CIS was correlated with baseline DWI volume, PWI volume (Tmax > 6, Tmax>10), an angiographic collateral score (using a previously described 5 point scale) and subsequent infarct growth. Results: Forty-eight patients had ICA/M1 occlusions and adequate angiographic images to evaluate CIS. Baseline DWI lesion volume correlated with CIS (p=0.001). Median DWI volume for patients with poor CIS (0-1) was 28 (IQR, 11-54) versus 13 (3-27) for those with good CIS (2-3), p=0.011. Baseline T max > 6 volume correlated with CIS (p=0.004). Median volume of tissue at risk (T max > 6 sec) in those with poor CIS was 108 ml (IQR, 74-138) versus 69(43-108) with good CIS, p=0.009. Severe T max delay (> 10 sec) also correlated with CIS (p=0.001). CIS was also found to correlate with angiographic collaterals (p=0.006). On follow-up MRI CIS correlated with subsequent lesion growth (p=0.043). Conclusions: CIS provides a rapid angiographic assessment of capillary blush from collateral flow into the ischemic territory and correlates with angiographic collateral scores. In DEFUSE 2 the CIS score was strongly associated with baseline DWI and PWI lesion volumes and subsequent lesion growth.

Due to the rise in environmental awareness, green technologies and practices have become the conscientious imperative expected from all manufacturing industries. Consequently, environmental initiatives are becoming an essential part of the strategic planning in organizations, including the small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Thus, the objectives of this study were to determine the extent of implementation in green manufacturing practices among the SMEs as well as to examine the relationship between those practices and manufacturing performance. Data was collected via a survey from 544 SMEs across all types of industries located throughout Malaysia. Results of the analysis showed that there is an encouraging level of implementation in green practices among the SMEs, with the optimization of processes to reduce solid waste being the top practice. The results also revealed that green practices within the inbound and production phase of the manufacturing lifecycle significantly affected manufacturing performance but not practices within the outbound phase.

Abstract Do students believe that Year 12 LOTE courses contribute to the development of oral and aural proficiency in the target language? Attitudinal and performance data collected from university French 1 students shed some light on students’ satisfaction with their Year 12 LOTE course and on the relationship among perceived outcomes, course components, language of instruction and language performance. The findings, while not definitive, provide some insights for secondary and tertiary LOTE teachers, together with some baseline data for further research into the success of school language programs.
