Laparoscopy has been a relatively recent development in the treatment of urological pathology. This chapter has been updated from previous editions to include a greater focus on robotic surgery. From a general overview of the history of laparoscopic and robotic surgery, it covers the essential equipment, methods of laparoscopic access, and basic skills before outlining the indications, contraindications, and operative techniques for 13 different operations.

Abstract This paper is a brief survey on the concept of paribhāṣā throughout the whole Indian textual tradition. The contribute displays in a general way what is well developed by other articles of the volume. The most striking feature of this overview is that it highlights some issues concerning the translation of the word paribhāṣā as well as the general definitions formulated across Indian literary history. Possible alternative translations of the term paribhāṣā, from the history of ideas’ perspective, are as follows: meta-rule, hermeneutic rule, interpretative rule. The paper hints at the very core of the problem, namely the multi-tasking function of the paribhāṣā.

This chapter offers a general overview of the short history of conservative political documentary and likewise offers a thorough explanation of the relation between political media and the psychoanalytic conception of hysteria and hysterical discourse. In addition to surveying key texts in the psychoanalytic canon concerning the etiology and reproduction of hysterical discourse, I argue in favor of distinguishing two distinct forms of psychic trauma: hysterical complaints (which are singular, contingent, and emergent) and hysterical discourse (which is self-perpetuating). In the case of conservative political media and rhetoric, hysterical discourse magnifies the affective trauma of political complaints for more cynical ends, as a means to forestall change and to keep the hysterical subject at a significant remove from its perceived competitors even as the hysteric’s discourse appears to engage in sustained dialogue.

This chapter presents the history of a cycle of theological polemics of which Jadid al-Islam’s work was the last link. This cycle starts in Mughal India with the work of the Jesuit missionary Jerome Xavier, followed by responses in Iran and counter-responses in Rome, under the auspices of the missionary congregation of Propaganda Fide. The chapter also presents the history of biblical translation projects in Arabic and Persian, which were directly linked to these polemics, including Jadid al-Islam’s own biblical Persian translation and commentary. A general overview about other polemical works in Iran into the nineteenth century is also provided.

Purpose. Robotic surgery is currently employed for many surgical procedures, yielding interesting results. Methods. We performed an historical review of robots and robotic surgery evaluating some critical phases of its evolution, analyzing its impact on our life and the steps completed that gave the robotics its current popularity. Results. The origins of robotics can be traced back to Greek mythology. Different aspects of robotics have been explored by some of the greatest inventors like Leonardo da Vinci, Pierre Jaquet-Droz, and Wolfgang Von-Kempelen. Advances in many fields of science made possible the development of advanced surgical robots. Over 3000 da Vinci robotic platforms are installed worldwide, and more than 200 000 robotic procedures are performed every year. Conclusion. Despite some potential adverse events, robotic technology seems safe and feasible. It is strictly linked to our life, leading surgeons to a new concept of surgery and training.

This Introduction takes a broadly focused, global, and comparative view of the concept of embodiment, focusing particularly on some of the ways it has been interpreted outside of the history of European thought. It also provides a general overview of the central concerns and questions of the volume as a whole, such as: What is the historical and conceptual relationship between the idea of embodiment and the idea of subjecthood? Am I who I am principally in virtue of the fact that I have the body I have? Relatedly, what is the relationship of embodiment to being and to individuality? Is embodiment a necessary condition of being? Of being an individual? What are the theological dimensions of embodiment? To what extent has the concept of embodiment been deployed in the history of philosophy to contrast the created world with the state of existence enjoyed by God? What are the normative dimensions of theories of embodiment? To what extent is the problem of embodiment a distinctly western preoccupation?

Vesical nephrogenic adenoma is a rare, benign entity that appearsmost commonly in middle-aged males. Its etiology is unknown, but it has been linked to chronic irritating factors, such as infection, trauma, urological surgery, kidney stones, foreign bodies andchemical agents, such as Bacille Calmette-Guerin. We report 2new cases with a history of transurethral resection of the bladderand the prostate and a history of prolonged voiding symptoms. Inboth cases, the findings of encysted tubular structures lined withflattened cuboidal cells without atypia were consistent with thediagnosis of vesical nephrogenic adenoma.

At the Tiré à part conference held in Quebec city in October 2003, speakers from artist-run centres from across Canada discussed 30 years of experience in publishing. Themes such as audience, production, funding, professionalisation and distribution encouraged the identification and exploration of current issues. These are put in context here by a general overview of the development of the genre as well as a short history of production by artist-run centres such as Art Metropole, Artspeak, Artexte and the Bookmobile project.

AbstractAlthough laparoscopic surgery or robotic surgery has recently been the main procedure adopted for managing benign uterine tumors, abdominal total hysterectomy must still be learned as a basic surgical skill for obstetricians and gynecologists. Total hysterectomy is divided into two types: the extrafascial and intrafascial approaches. Intrafascial hysterectomy, represented by the Aldridge's method, is a useful and safe procedure for treatment when the patient has no cervical malignancy, including cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. Furthermore, the intrafascial approach is safely performed even in patients with firm adhesion in the Douglas's pouch and/or around the uterine cervix due to endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory diseases, or a history of intrapelvic surgery. The intrafascial approach can also effectively prevent descent of the vaginal stump after hysterectomy via the partial preservation of the uterine retinaculum. Although the Aldridge's method was originally reported to start via an intrafascial approach at the position of the internal cervical os using scissors, Dr. Kiichiro Noda created a modified version of the procedure that increases its ease and safety by changing the position and management of the parametrial tissue including the uterine artery. The details of this modified Aldridge's procedure using Noda's method are explained below.
