At autopsy, the incidence of metastasis to the heart seems to be higher than clinically observed. In two-thirds of cases, the pericardium is involved, in about one-third of cases the epicardium and the myocardium, and in 5% of cases the endocardium. On cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging, cardiac metastases present with features of malignant masses, variable signal characteristics, and generally (60%) enhance after contrast application.
