Abstract CRISPR is a revolutionary genome-editing tool that has been broadly used and integrated within novel biotechnologies. A major component of existing CRISPR design tools is the search engines that find the off-targets up to a predefined number of mismatches. Many CRISPR design tools adapted sequence alignment tools as the search engines to speed up the process. These commonly used alignment tools include BLAST, BLAT, Bowtie, Bowtie2 and BWA. Alignment tools use heuristic algorithm to align large amount of sequences with high performance. However, due to the seed-and-extend algorithms implemented in the sequence alignment tools, these methods are likely to provide incomplete off-targets information for ultra-short sequences, such as 20-bp guide RNAs (gRNA). An incomplete list of off-targets sites may lead to erroneous CRISPR design. To address this problem, we derived four sets of gRNAs to evaluate the accuracy of existing search engines; further, we introduce a search engine, namely CRISPR-SE. CRISPR-SE is an accurate and fast search engine using a brute force approach. In CRISPR-SE, all gRNAs are virtually compared with query gRNA, therefore, the accuracies are guaranteed. We performed the accuracy benchmark with multiple search engines. The results show that as expected, alignment tools reported an incomplete and varied list of off-target sites. CRISPR-SE performs well in both accuracy and speed. CRISPR-SE will improve the quality of CRISPR design as an accurate high-performance search engine.

This chapter reports the results of a project attempting to assess the performance of a few major search engines from various perspectives. The search engines involved in the study include the Microsoft Search Engine (MSE) when it was in its beta test stage, AllTheWeb, and Yahoo. In a few comparisons, other search engines such as Google, Vivisimo are also included. The study collects statistics such as the average user response time, average process time for a query reported by MSE, as well as the number of pages relevant to a query reported by all search engines involved. The project also studies the quality of search results generated by MSE and other search engines using RankPower as the metric. We found MSE performs well in speed and diversity of the query results, while weaker in other statistics, compared to some other leading search engines. The contribution of this chapter is to review the performance evaluation techniques for search engines and use different measures to assess and compare the quality of different search engines, especially MSE.

<p>The research work is about to test the quality of the website and to improve the quality by analyzing the hit counts, impressions, clicks, count through rates and average positions. This is accomplished using WRPA and SEO technique. The quality of the website mainly lies on the keywords which are present in it. The keywords can be of a search query which is typed by the users in the search engines and based on these keywords, the websites are displayed in the search results. This research work concentrates on bringing the particular websites to the first of the search result in the search engine. The website chosen for research is SRKV. The research work is carried out by creating an index array of Meta tags. This array will hold all the Meta tags. All the search keywords for the website from the users are stored in another array. The index array is matched and compared with the search keywords array. From this, hit to count is calculated for the analysis. Now the calculated hit count and the searched keywords will be analyzed to improve the performance of the website. The matched special keywords from the above comparison are included in the Meta tag to improve the performance of the website. Again all the Meta tags and newly specified keywords in the index array are matched with the SEO keywords. If this matches, then the matched keyword will be stored for improving the quality of the website. Metrics such as impressions, clicks, CTR, average positions are also measured along with the hit counts. The research is carried out under different types of browsers and different types of platforms. Queries about the website from different countries are also measured. In conclusion, if the number of the clicks for the website is more than the average number of clicks, then the quality of the website is good. This research helps in improvising the keywords using WRPA and SEO and thereby improves the quality of the website easily.</p>

Search engines enable advertisers to target consumers based on the query they have entered. In a framework in which consumers search sequentially after having entered a query, I show that such targeting reduces search costs, improves matches and intensifies price competition. However, a profit-maximizing monopolistic search engine imposes a distortion by charging too high an advertising fee, which may negate the benefits of targeting. The search engine also has incentives to provide a suboptimal quality of sponsored links. Competition among search engines can increase or decrease welfare, depending on the extent of multi-homing by advertisers. (JEL D43, D83, L13, L86, M37)

Meta search engines allow multiple engine searches to minimize biased information and improve the quality of the results it generates. However, existing meta engine applications contain many foreign language results, and only run on Windows platform. The meta search engine we develop will resolve these problems. Our search engine will run on both Windows and Linus platforms, and has some desirable properties: 1) users can shorten the search waiting time if one of the search engines is down 2) users can sort the result titles in an alphabetic or relevancy order. Current meta search websites only allow users to sort results by relevancy. Our search engine allows users to do an alphabetical search from the previous relevancy search result, so that the users can identify the required title within a shorter time frame.

BACKGROUND Increasingly people seek health information from the Internet, in particular, health information on diseases that require intensive self-management, such as diabetes. However, the Internet is largely unregulated and the quality of online health information may not be credible. OBJECTIVE To assess the quality of online information on diabetes identified from the Internet. METHODS We used the single term “diabetes” or equivalent Chinese characters to search Google and Baidu respectively. The first 50 websites retrieved from each of the two search engines were screened for eligibility using pre-determined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Included websites were assessed on four domains: accessibility, content coverage, validity and readability. RESULTS We included 26 websites from Google search engine and 34 from Baidu search engine. There were significant differences in website provider (P<0.0001), but not in targeted population (P=0.832) and publication types (P=0.378), between the two search engines. The website accessibility was not statistically significantly different between the two search engines, although there were significant differences in items regarding website content coverage. There was no statistically significant difference in website validity between the Google and Baidu search engines (mean Discern score 3.3 vs 2.9, p=0.156). The results to appraise readability for English website showed that that Flesch Reading Ease scores ranged from 23.1 to 73.0 and the mean score of Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level ranged range from 5.7 to 19.6. CONCLUSIONS The content coverage of the health information for patients with diabetes in English search engine tended to be more comprehensive than that from Chinese search engine. There was a lack of websites provided by health organisations in China. The quality of online health information for people with diabetes needs to be improved to bridge the knowledge gap between website service and public demand.

The two main retrieval strategies for accessing personal information are navigation and search. Critics of navigation point out that information is hidden from sight in folders that are often within other folders; so people have to remember the exact location of information in order to access it. Despite these arguments, several studies show that search is not the main way that people actually access their files. Instead people generally prefer to manually navigate to information rather than using desktop search. This preference is independent of the quality of the search engine used, and improved search engines do not reduce the extent to which people actively organize their information. Except when finding new web information, people use search only as a last resort when accessing personal files.

SEO can also target other areas of a search, including image search and local search. SEO is one of many different strategies used for marketing a website but SEO has been proven the most effective. An Internet marketing campaign may drive organic search results to websites or web pages but can be involved with paid advertising on search engines. All search engines have a unique way of ranking the importance of a website. Some search engines focus on the content while others review Meta tags to identify who and what a web site’s business is. Most engines use a combination of Meta tags, content, link popularity, click popularity and longevity to determine a sites ranking. To make it even more complicated, they change their ranking policies frequently. This paper provides an overview of search engine optimisation strategies and pitfalls.

Meta-search engines are created to reduce the burden on the user by dispatching queries to multiple search engines in parallel. Decisions on how to rank the returned results are made based on the query's keywords. Although keyword-based search model produces good results, better results can be obtained by integrating semantic and statistical based relatedness measures into this model. Such integration allows the meta-search engine to search by meanings rather than only by literal strings. In this article, we present Multi-Search+, the next generation of Multi-Search general-purpose meta-search engine. The extended version of the system employs additional knowledge represented by multiple domain-specific ontologies to enhance both the query processing and the returned results merging. In addition, new general-purpose search engines are plugged-in to its architecture. Experimental results demonstrate that our integrated search model obtained significant improvement in the quality of the produced search results.


The development of information that continues to develop causes an explosion of information which certainly has a very complex impact on information storage management. This also impacts on companies that have several data that continues to grow every day. Therefore, there is a needs to have a search engine algorithm that can do a search system quickly with the development of information that continues to increase every day. Search engine applications or search engines in a computer system make it easy for users to find a variety of information. To facilitate its use, search engines add search features or better known as word suggestion, which in designing this application requires string matching algorithms that can be used to solve these problems. Many strings matching algorithms are available and therefore, the need for an analysis of the search algorithm to be able to help determine which search system is appropriate for use in word suggestion search. The result comparing brute force and boyer moore algorithm, it was found that as much as 79.05% showed that the Boyer Moore algorithm has a better time efficiency compared to the Brute Force.
