Abstract BACKGROUND Socioeconomics affect the outcome of neurological patients, but the socioeconomic burden of brain tumors has not been studied in detail. PATIENTS AND METHODS This survey study in a clinically well-annotated cohort of meningioma patients was designed to explore socioeconomic status parameters at diagnosis and one year thereafter. The survey comprised level of education, profession, employment status, subjective work ability, monthly income and the EPICES social deprivation score. Quality of life (QoL) and symptom burden were queried utilizing the EORTC-QLQ-C30/BN20 and MDASI-BT. A multivariate binary regression model was applied to explore associations of socioeconomics with QoL. RESULTS Completed surveys were obtained from 249 of 410 patients (61%) who were invited to participate. The level of education was an apprenticeship or higher in 214 patients (86%). One year after diagnosis, there was a 20% decline in the fraction of employed patients and a more than twofold increase in unemployment and disability (p<0.001). There was a decrease in monthly income among patients with a baseline income below national average (p=0.008). On multivariate analyses, there was an association of inferior QoL with pre-operative unemployment or retirement (OR 2.43, 95% CI 1.02–5.88), whereas a subjective work ability of >70% was associated with better QoL (OR 0.37, 95% CI 0.15–0.92). CONCLUSION Socioeconomics assessments should be incorporated in prospective neuro-oncology clinical trials. A more detailed knowledge of the effects of socioeconomics on patient outcome will aid in identifying patients at risk for deterioration and allow to implement improved preventive and supportive strategies.

The contribution of universities to economic structure, social and physical insfrastructure, the quality of life and city, and the level of education cannot be regarded. Therefore, it should be provided that university campuses should be areas which reflect city image with their physical structures. In this regard, the effective administration, usage, and development of universities, and the coordination between the units of universities should also be provided. One of the most significant elements of this coordination and cooperation is on campus transportation. One of the main purposes of the thesis is to evaluate inner campus transportation which is the sub-unit of city transportation. Other purposes are to determine the reasons of the perception of the users in reference to their demographic features on campus transportation and the reasons of their preferences of a particular transportation option. A survey study has been conducted in order to measure inner campus transportation perceptions. In this regard, 1112 questionnaire forms have been analysed by the software programme of SPSS. Expression analysis of the reliability, frequency distribution and factors are obtained, and differences were identified by ANOVA and T-TEST analysis.

Abstract Follow-up study on the labor market situation, quality of life and perceived work ability and functioning of patients of a rehabilitation outpatient clinicIn order to prolong working careers and increase participation in work, it is also important to support the attachment and continuation of people with partial ability to work. The aim of the study was to find out the changes in the labor market situation, the use of sick leave, quality of life, and work ability and functioning of the outpatient clinic of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (N=238) during one-year follow-up. Participation in the labor market and vocational rehabilitation of those who participated in rehabilitation increased, and at the same time the use of sickness benefits decreased. Patients’ quality of life, perceived health and work ability, and self-care improved. Correspondingly, cognitive and physical functioning as well as inclusion were impaired. Systematic and multi-professional assessment of work ability and functioning can lead to effective plans to promote employment. Keywords: rehabilitation, employment status, quality of life, work ability, functioning

Introduction: Our aim was to evaluate quality of life (QOL) as a predictor of work abilities of employees in a tobacco factory. Methods: The study was performed in the period between 2011 and 2012. The sample comprised of 270 workers, males and females, aged from 20-65, with different educational backgrounds. The study was performed as cross-sectional research, on a voluntary basis, using two standardized and anonymous questionnaires: The World Health Organization Quality of Life-Brief Version questionnaire (WHOQOL-BREF) and the Work Ability Index questionnaire (WAI).Results: The participants subjectively perceived high values of QOL in general, with the highest values in the area of living environment. The lowest value was in the area of social interactions. Statistically significant differences were observed in the subjective assessments of QOL, especially in three defined areas (physical health, mental health, and social interactions).  Workers age 50-65 years and workers with basic (primary) level of education exhibited a suboptimal (<70%) values in total value and the values of individually defined areas of QOL.Conclusions: Strong predictors of exemplary work ability of employees are good physical and mental health, younger age, and higher level of education. A link was observed between suboptimal work ability and dissatisfaction with profession and working environment, frequent illness, absenteeism, and exposure to health risks at the workplace.
