Currently, the issue of the quality of professional education and compliance of the competencies of university graduates with the requirements of professional community is acute. New technologies require new approaches to the educational process and teaching methods . The development of humanitarian training in technical universities was initiated by economic considerations related to transformations in the economy and the restructuring of higher education. However, the high efficiency of such educational programs is now confirmed if they combine special competencies and knowledge of the characteristics of a specific industry, which becomes a competitive advantage of graduates in the labor market. A good example confirming this approach is the training of bachelors in the field of Advertising and Public Relations in technical universities. The authors evaluated the effectiveness of communication features of bachelors training of a humanitarian profile in technical universities on the basis of such criteria as (1) the use of the scientific and educational potential of the university and its resources; (2) the interest caused by this direction among prospective students; (3) the specifics of the educational process; (4) the uniqueness of the competencies that graduates of a technical university have, (5) their demand in the labor market and socio-professional assessment. This study finalized in a poll of fourth (final) year undergraduate students studying in training profile “Advertising and Public Relations in the Aerospace Industry”. As the poll showed, graduates of humanitarian fields of training in technical universities can be characterized by lateral thinking, erudity, knowledge of industry specifics, and motivation to work in the chosen field. An important advantage of such training it the perception of students consists in application of knowledge gained in other industries. It is important to note that the high level of training is confirmed by the social and professional accreditation of the faculty.

A new urology curriculum has been approved by the General Medical Council and will be rolled out from August 2021. Major changes include phasing of training with a hard checkpoint at ST5 that facilitates focussed development on core skills during phase 2 (ST3–5) and the development of a special interest during phase 3 (ST6–7). While the syllabus remains unchanged, supervision levels will replace many of the workplace-based assessments currently used in wider clinical practice, learning agreements will transition from placement to placement, and indicative numbers have been replaced with index procedures, in a move from box-ticking to a professional assessment of competency and totality of practice. While change can be daunting, the 2021 urology curriculum can be viewed positively as a move away from the arbitrary collection of records of workplace-based assessments and exposure to indicative numbers, and towards the holistic professional judgements of competency that are more in keeping with lifelong consultant practice. Level of evidence: Not applicable.

Опыт профессиональной оценки трансформации планировочной структуры городских агломераций - важная компетенция географов-исследователей. Кейс разработан для Барселоны (Испания). The author developed a case study for the study of urban agglomerations in the course «Spatial Planning» for geographers. City agglomerations as the main forms of modern urban space - this is one of the types of areas of territorial planning (district planning) in all countries of the world. In Russia, for urban agglomeration, Territorial planning schemes are being developed. In geography, this is a popular research topic. The experience of professional assessment of the transformation of the planning structure of urban agglomerations is an important competence of geography researchers. Abstract Background The conventional written tests and professional assessment have limitation in fair judgement of clinical competence. Because the examiners may not have total objectivity and may lack standardization throughout the assessment process. We sought to design a valid method of competence assessment in medical and nursing specialties. This work was aimed to develop an Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE) to evaluate novice nursing practitioners’ clinical competency, work stress, professional confidence, and career satisfaction. Methods A Quasi-experimental study (pre-post). Fifty-five novice nursing practitioners received the OSCE three-months following their graduation, which consisted of four stations: history taking, physical examination, problem-directed management, interpersonal communication, and the required techniques of related procedures. The examiners had to complete an assessment checklist, and the participants had to complete a pre-post questionnaire (modified from a Nursing Competency Questionnaire, a Stress scale, and Satisfaction with Learning scale). Results Among the novice nursing practitioners, 41 of them (74.5 %) passed the exam with a mean score of 61.38 ± 8.34. There was a significantly higher passing rate among nurses who were working in medical-surgical wards (85.7 %) and the intensive care unit-emergency department (77.8 %) compared to novice nursing practitioners working in other units. All the novice nursing practitioners at Station A had poor performance in assessing patients with a fever. OSCE performance was more associated with educational attainment and work unit, rather than the gender. Finally, the participants showed statistically significant increases in their clinical competency, confidence in their professional competence, satisfaction with the clinical practice, and decreased work stress after the OSCE. Conclusions We found that the OSCE process had a positive educational effect, in providing a meaningful and accurate assessment of the competence of novice nursing practitioners. An appropriate OSCE program is vital for novice nursing practitioners, educators, and administrators. The effective application of OSCEs can help novice nursing practitioners gain confidence in their clinical skills.

The accommodations in exams (for example, scribe, compensatory time, and magnification) are widely used for many years to accommodate persons with visual impairments (PVIs). Nowadays, most of the exams are conducted using computers and web-based technologies, referred to as Computer-based tests (CBTs). These CBTs play an important role in the professional assessment of an individual, starting from university admissions, courses evaluation, and grading, to recruitment in various sectors like banking, software, railways, etc. Barriers in accessing certain components of the CBTs limit the utilization of Computer-based technologies for PVIs. In this research, the availability and effectiveness of common accommodations in CBTs were evaluated and reviewed. To the best of our knowledge, this is one of the early attempts from India to systematically study the effectiveness of these accommodations. Driven by a universal design approach, it can play a key role towards the development of an inclusive examination system.
