Self-Uncanny looks at the interface between humans and digital technologies in the work of Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, focusing on the screen as a site of encounter that is shadowed by surveillance and profiling devices. It begins by examining how interactive screens reposition us as users rather than just spectators. While the contemporary shift from spectator to user seems to offer more agency, it also questions our subjectivity. We are no longer treated as subjects or addressees, but as sources of information that is collected, analyzed, and sorted by algorithms—algorithms that see us as members of categories (age, gender, buying power, political outlook, etc.). We do experience the effects of such categorizations (like being turned down for a mortgage or denied access to healthcare), but we are not capable of experiencing how the categories our data profile has been put in affect our lives.

Purpose Digital technologies are widely used for digitization of museum and archival heritage and creation of digital, multimedia and online exhibitions, especially in terms of costume history. Digital exhibitions require historical dress forms which were used in the past for costume presentation. The purpose of this paper is to develop a new method for parametric modeling of the nineteenth century dress forms in accordance with fashionable body shape. Design/methodology/approach Due to limited number of body measurements in historical sizing tables, it is impossible to redesign the morphology of old fashionable body with high accuracy by means of contemporary CAD. The developed method is based on two sources of information: first, historical sizing tables with body measurements; second, historical corsets. By combining both resources and applying virtual try-on technology, the full anthropometric database about the nineteenth century fashionable body shape has been organized and the parametric model of historical dress form has been generated. Findings The digital replica of deformable parametric dress form was created automatically in accordance with the historical sizing systems and the corsets construction. The process of reproduction of a historical dress form has been done with high accuracy due to substantial advantages of contemporary software. Originality/value This study shows new way of anthropometric data generating from the construction of close-fitting and compression undergarments. The developed method and the new database can be applied for each type of dress forms which were used in the second part of the nineteenth century to generate its digital replica in virtual reality. The new approach is joining the digital technologies and the professional knowledge as an important part of cultural heritage for studying, recreating and presenting historical costume.

Abstract This study attempts to show the role of translation in giving meaning to conflicts whether by reproducing the dominant political beliefs of a particular media society or by resisting counter-ideologies that come from foreign sources of information. It utilizes Critical Discourse Analysis as an effective method for the analysis of power relations behind news reporting. The research uses a corpus from international media and their equivalent texts into Arabic between 2013 and 2017. The data covers events on conflicts in Syria, Iraq, Bahrain and Yemen, each article reporting issues about conflict and its impact on arenas of struggle. Through this case study of transediting, I will explore how textual analysis can unravel power relations and hegemonic orders of discourse. The study shows that translation is a site of conflict and has much to say about reasons for conflict and the complex relationship between language and power. The proposed tools of analysis in this study are based on functional language analysis and will show how language structuring, in particular transitivity analysis, articulates the logic created by the media outlet regarding reasons for conflict. The case study concludes that different media structure the current wars in the Middle East in different chains of causal dependence that can impact the reading positions of the readers.

Problem setting. The issue of legal regulation of the digitization of museums is currently relevant and deserves special attention, since digital transformation at an effective level is necessary for both rare objects (museum cultural values) and modern ones. Creating a modern digital space for museum cultural values will be appropriate for: both visitors, owners and authors of museum cultural values, and outside investors and the museum. The purpose. Analysis of the “virtual version of the museum” category as a means of introducing digital technologies and defining its features, mechanism for realization and protection of digital works rights, which are in the repository of the museum site. Analysis of recent research and publications. At the scientific level, scientists, such as A. G. Vasnev, A. V. Goloviznin, S. G. Dolgov, T. V. Dudenko, V. F. Zverhovskaya, I. E. Martynenko, V. Yu. Stepanov, B. M. Odaynyk, but were considered exclusively within the framework of the legal regulation of the circulation of cultural values. The issues of digitization of museums dealt with such scientists as M. A. Belyaeva, T. A. Ladygina, N. V. Klementyevа, K. D. Savitskaya, but more from the point of view of general issues, without affecting the features of the virtual version of the museums. Article’s main body. Virtual excursion is the result of creative activity, presented in electronic (digital) form, by means of spherical or cylindrical panoramas, based on the interactive interaction of the user (visitor) with the virtual environment through a computer program for visual demonstration of digital works that are to be expressed electronically (digitally) and located on the museum’s website. Digitization of museum cultural values is one of the most promising areas in the field of introduction of high technologies and automation for museum cultural values. “Digitalization” should provide every citizen with equal access to cultural information and knowledge services provided through digital technologies. The implementation of this principle is possible when implementing a virtual version of the museum. The author defines the essence of the category “virtual version of the museum” and reveals its features. The article states that when visiting a virtual tour, the visitor can receive the following electronic services in the field of culture and the arts (paid / free), in particular, 1) view the virtual panorama by going to different halls of the museum, 2) explore museum exhibits that are museum cultural values, 3) get information about museum cultural values and more. Conclusions. According to the results of research, the expediency of positioning the museum in the Web space is established and the necessity of introducing a virtual version of the museum as a means of introduction of digital technologies is substantiated. The author found that if the museum site has a repository of digital photographs, which are viewed through virtual tours, access to such a site or content must be based on the copyright and copyright of the digital author himself.

The article analyzes the reasons for the need for harmonization of various areas of accounting, including ambiguity in the interpretation of a number of terms, the meaning of important indicators, the application of certain methods, and the lack of a unified concept that unite all areas of accounting with a single goal. In a digital economy, the negative impact of these differences on the effectiveness of the accounting area is manifested especially bright. As a result, the transformation of the accounting sphere becomes a priority in the situation when the information, knowledge of any subject of the economy represents a resource of the highest value. In the article, only four areas of research are considered, according to which, first of all, it is necessary to achieve a correspondence between the areas of the accounting sphere: the approach to virtual operations; scope of using probabilistic indicators; terminology; details of accounting information. Also, a proposal was made to develop a unified concept for accounting, auditing and analysis in the digital economy (including also integrated reporting in the accounting area). This concept should be based on the capabilities of digital technologies that allow instant communication between different sources of information and handle Big Date. The goal of a single accounting concept is to create knowledge (information resource) in relation to both individual economic entities and their groups, as well as other new structures and forms of their cooperation for all interested users. Three principles on which the development of the accounting sphere in the conditions of the digital economy should be built: the provision of information security; continuous interaction of the accounting sector with other areas of the economy; visualization of knowledge. These three principles form the priority directions for further research into the development of the accounting sector in the digital economy.

The relevance of the research is due to the fact that the digitalization of the world educational system as a modern trend in the development of education requires serious reflection and solutions to a number of problems. The use of digital educational content, in addition to its obvious advantages, also contains a number of very likely risks. Including risks related to the spiritual and moral sphere of the individual. The purpose of our research is to study the attitude of teachers to the opportunities and risks of spiritual and moral education in the context of digitalization, as well as to find ways to minimize possible risks. The study involved teachers of the Chelyabinsk region who had advanced training in teaching the discipline "Fundamentals of religious cultures and secular ethics" (on the basis of the Institute of continuing and additional education of the South Ural state humanitarian and pedagogical University). The survey method was used in the study. As a result of the survey, it was revealed that the main effect of using digital technologies, according to teachers, is better memorization of visually perceived information (72% of students), a third of respondents note the possibility of taking into account the individual characteristics of students, and a quarter of respondents – an increase in creative potential. Achievement of subject-based learning outcomes is, in the opinion of teachers, the main effect of using digital content, the educational effect of digitalization is not noted by respondents. More than 80% of teachers see the risk of using digital technologies in reducing the time for live communication, more than 60% – in reducing the communicative activity of children, in reducing interest in printed sources of information. The conclusions are related to the need for further research of this problem in the following areas: analysis of educational opportunities of existing digital educational content of spiritual and moral orientation and determination of criteria for evaluating such content; selection and creation of effective methods of using digital technologies that ensure the formation of students ' experience of emotional and value attitude to spiritual, historical and cultural heritage, as well as the ability to apply the knowledge gained in various life situations; training of teachers who are competent in the field of spiritual and moral education.

The opacity of digital technologies has posed significant challenges for critical research and digital methods. In response, controversy mapping, reverse engineering and hacking have been key methodological devices to grapple with opacity and ‘open the black box’ of digital ecosystems. We take recent developments in digital humanitarianism and the accelerated production of apps for refugees following the 2015 Mediterranean refugee crisis as a site of methodological experimentation to advance hacking as critical methodological interference. Drawing on the work of Michel Serres, we propose to understand digital technologies as ‘parasitic’ and reconceptualise hacking as ‘acts of digital parasitism’. Acts of digital parasitism are interferences that work alongside rather than work against. On one hand, this reworking of hacking advances an agenda for digital methods through reworking hacking for digital humanities and social science research. On the other, it allows us to show how the object of research – humanitarian apps – is configured through platformisation and incorporation within digital parasitic relations.

AbstractIn this article, I explore how digital technologies in Kenya emerged as a site through which questions of citizenship were posed – if not resolved – at a moment of national crisis. I draw attention, specifically, to the ways in which developers, bloggers and state actors mobilized techno-utopian narratives about Kenya's ‘Silicon Savannah’ to advocate for what I call ‘digital citizenship’, an ethical blueprint for how best to belong to the nation. While social scientists writing about ICT in Africa have focused primarily on Africans’ novel uses of objects such as mobile phones, I contribute to this conversation by interrogating how digital technologies have been mobilized as an idiom to both challenge and perpetuate social cleavages of ethnicity and class. ‘Digital citizenship’, I suggest, compels us to revisit debates about (post)colonial history, ideologies that undergird digitality, and the formation of local, national and transnational scales of belonging.

Introduction. The processes of formation and development of tourist destinations in the border regions of Western Ukraine testify to the growing influence of Internet resources; mobile platforms and applications; use of various software and other digital products on tourism development. The urgent issue remains the introduction of information and communication technologies and the formation of a system of relations between the tourist and the tourist destination. In view of this; the article is devoted to the study of the use of digital technologies in the development of tourist destinations. Methods. The methodological basis of the study are general scientific and economic- statistical methods: analysis and synthesis – to explore the benefits of implementing digital technologies in tourism; peer review – based on a set of individual expert opinions; allowed to obtain an objective assessment of the need to introduce digital products in the development of tourist destinations; inductions; deductions – to determine the directions of development of tourist destinations; survey – to identify sources of information that prompted a tourist trip; etc. Results. On the basis of the analysis of the activity of tourist centers in the western Ukrainian border regions the advantages of digitization in the development of tourist destinations were determined and further possibilities of digital tourism were revealed. Through the expert evaluation; digital products were detailed and the need for their introduction into the development of tourist destinations was confirmed. A survey was conducted of respondents in the information tourist centers of some Western Ukrainian cities; which helped to identify the main sources of information that influenced the desire to make a tourist trip to a tourist destination. The international experience of using digital technologies in the functioning of local tourist destinations in Suceava County (Romania) is considered; which allowed establishing modern approaches to tourism development and introduction of new concepts; such as destination information systems. In order to fully meet the needs of modern tourists and efficient use of tourist resources; it is proposed to create «smart» territories where; through digital technology and the use of innovative devices; not only can full use of tourism potential and create new opportunities for its growth; but also make tourists stay at their destination more comfortable and secure. Prospects. The prospect of further research involves the development and implementation of a set of stimulating measures to intensify the processes of digitization of tourism destinations and search for tools to support the introduction of digital technologies in the tourism sector.
