Deaf Education in India

Given that India is a multicultural and multilingual country, there have always been challenges in educating the deaf. After independence, many legislative policies were put forth for the rights of the disabled, but the country’s fast-growing population made it difficult to cope with the demand. In the current scenario, the government of India and many nongovernmental organizations have partnered to overcome this challenge. There is more research being done in the field, and many methods of communication and educational approaches that were previously suppressed, like sign language and bilingualism, have been brought forth. Further developments in this arena are being made. This chapter throws light on the past, present, and future of education of the deaf and hard of hearing in India, the challenges that remain, and the prospects that we envisage.

AbstractHistorical overview of ceramic development has been provided in the paper. It has been stated that the trail of ceramics has been rooted in Indus valley civilization. Advancement of materials leads to afflux of development in the fields of science and technology. Present paper deals with the realm of Ceramic Engineering, mainly focuses on education and jobs in the respected fields in India. This paper also holds the framework and research work in Ceramic Engineering in India. It has been defined that the whole processing of ceramics is done in the laboratories, like refractories, ceramics white wares, fuel furnace and pyrometry etc. There are a number of jobs which are offered by government sector as well as private sector. It has been determined that ceramic engineers are able to get job opportunities in aerospace, automotive industry, building material manufacturing, chemical industries, electronics, food processing, mining, medicine and refinery sectors in India. Curricula, undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Ceramics Engineering have been characterized. The peculiarities of dual degree education in Ceramics Engineering have been described. It has been stated that there are several initiatives taken by the government for the enhancement of skills and knowledge in Ceramics Engineering, which have been discussed in the extant paper. It has been defined that a new advancement in Ceramics Engineering is the initiative for enhancement of the knowledge through video lectures, offered by a couple of institutes. The prospects of ceramics application have been analyzed. It has been stated that the momentousness of ceramics are protruding diurnally just like in sculptures designing, pottery, building constructions, sanitary & textile etc. Not only the designing field of ceramics but its use in electronics field has been covered. It has been concluded that ceramic has a great potential to give solutions to the heat absorption between the walls or contacting surfaces. Earthenware was the heretofore product of ceramics. It has been proved that the future scope of ceramic is enormous. It has also been stressed that nowadays Ceramic Engineering is one of the emerging fields in engineering education, but a very prospective one.

This paper presents the results from a qualitative study on the history of the Deaf social movement in Brazil and the collective actions of its members to achieve legal recognition of Libras - the Brazilian Sign Language. The study was undertaken between 2009 and 2013 in several Brazilian capitals. We interviewed Deaf and hearing activists, Sign language specialists, Deaf education researchers, and members of the government. We also analysed written and audio-visual documents from personal collections and public and private institutions. These discoveries made it possible to trace the transformation in the Deaf community from its emergence in the context of the disabled social movements of the 1980s to the far more public demonstrations in the 1990s. The study also looks at the progressive empowerment of the movement's members, and their collectively defined ideologies, that were designed to promote and justify their political agenda. The paper also attempts to clarify the movement's role in the approval of the Libras Federal Law 10.436 of April 2002, regulated by decree 5.626 in December 2005, and discusses its importance in guaranteeing government bilingual educational policies for Deaf students.

The Serengeti National Park in Tanzania is famous for its huge herds of migrating wildebeest, zebras and other ungulates. But these herds spend much of the year in neighbouring reserves where their survival depends on preserving the right conditions. The authors made a study of two of these reserves with disturbing results. The Maswa Game Reserve they found was seriously threatened by invading (illegal) settlement with a fast-growing population cultivating land and felling trees; in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area they report that the Maasai have taken to poaching, both for subsistence meat and for trophies to sell – skins, ivory and rhino horn. In both places the guards are so poorly equipped they can do little to stop poaching.

Des données fondées sur les arts, tirées d’une pièce de théâtre, Apple Time, sont explorées pour remettre en question les discours sur la diversité axés sur la binarité qui dominent l’éducation des personnes sourdes dans une collectivité diasporique d’une petite ville en Saskatchewan. Les professionnels de l’éducation pour les personnes sourdes se rangent généralement dans l’un de deux camps : ceux qui font la promotion du développement de l’anglais parlé par l’utilisation d’implants cochléaires, d’interventions thérapeutiques et de placements dans des environnements exclusivement orientés sur l’apprentissage du langage oralߙ; et ceux qui font la promotion d’une approche bilingue à deux modes dans le cadre de laquelle les enfants apprennent deux langues : l’anglais et l’American Sign Language (ASL). Actuellement, la plupart des enfants sourds étudient dans des écoles dans leurs communautés natales et sont éduqués surtout dans un environnement de langue orale. Des histoires rédigées et mises en scène par de jeunes sourds sont explorées avec l’objectif de déterminer les affects découlant de leurs intra-actions avec des animaux, la terre et des machines. Par l’intermédiaire de la schématisation des affects qui sont produits par des animaux, la terre et des machines, et qui les produisent, les chercheurs ont mis l’accent sur les intra-actions liées aux discours sur la diversité. Il est aussi question des lignes de fuite dans une optique de perturbation des discours sur la diversité. Les cheminements internes et externes de quatre des huit jeunes artistes sont décritsߙ; comme nomades sourds, ils concilient les affects découlant d’intra-actions avec des humains, des animaux, la terre et des machines. Puisque les jeunes artistes sourds ont fait appel à leurs expériences personnelles pour créer leurs scènes, l’article montre la façon dont ces histoires peuvent remettre en question les discours sur la diversité liés à l’éducation des enfants et des jeunes sourds, pour venir contribuer à une théorisation plus récente de l’acquisition du langage tel que distribué dans un ensemble.

Abstract:This article examines the early history of disability rights activism in Kenya. The transitional years from colonialism to independence were a period of great expectations. For persons with disabilities in particular, decolonization held additional possibilities and potential. National independence promised not just majority rule but also an all-inclusive citizenship and the commitment to social justice. Among the visually impaired of Kenya, such collective aspirations led to the birth of the Kenya Union of the Blind in 1959. In 1964, after years of futile correspondence with government officials, the Union organized a street march to the prime minister's office to attract attention to its grievances. The result was a government panel, the Mwendwa Committee for the Care and Rehabilitation of the Disabled, whose published report became the blueprint for social and rehabilitation programs. The government possessed limited resources, and the reforms that ensued were long overdue. Yet the sociohistorical dynamics behind the march are of particular significance. From the social historian's point of view, they affirm not only the historical agency of persons with disabilities, but also the need to recast and broaden the scope of African social history.


Wind is a powerful and renewable source of energy that flows in every corner of the surface of the planet. As the world moves towards renewable and alternate energy sources, the potential of wind energy has been recognized and methods to use it to its maximum potential are being explored. India has been harnessing wind power over the years, but only lately, it has sent an ambitious target of achieving 60 gigawatts (GW) of wind installed capacity by 2022. The government has issued several tenders to invite private players or Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to develop wind energy projects. Many foreign investors and the Private Equity players have shown interest in investing in this growing renewable energy (RE) market in India. However, developing a wind project comes with lot many challenges as compared to any other RE project. These challenges range from land availability to seeking grid connectivity approvals and evacuation of the power. Along with this, the current reverse bidding process for the tariffs, have made the per unit tariffs to cost as low as INR 2.4. Hence, it is important to consider the technical and commercial feasibility of the project to function at these tariffs. This paper studies the current scenario of wind energy in the Indian market and analysis the potential for the development of wind projects. It also analyses the technical and commercial feasibility of the project by assuming a 300 MW project, having INR 2.5 as tariff, using Wind Resource Assessment (WRA) and Financial Model.

ABSTRACTThis research, exploratory nature, aims to identify the current scenario of degrees in Science and Mathematics in Brazil, its weaknesses and offer. The number of vacancies in the IES Degree courses in Science and Mathematics is insufficient to meet demand in teacher training in this area? That was the question that guided the investigation. In this sense, we try to see if there are no vacancies, if there was a reduction in enrollment, evaluate evasion, estimate the annual public spending on vacancies unoccupied in 2011, these degrees. In response to the question presented in this study, the results corroborate the analysis of Tardif and Lessard (2009), with the prospect of an increase in the deficit of teachers. On the other hand, the survey indicated that the financial resources expended by the Government, especially in public institutions, little impact due to the high percentage of evasion, considering the offered vacancies and loss of students during the process. About 920 million reais annually, only in public HEIs, the resources made available for training of science and mathematics teachers do not produce effective results.RESUMOEsta investigação, de natureza exploratória, tem como objetivo identificar o atual cenário das licenciaturas de Ciências e Matemática no Brasil, suas fragilidades e oferta. A oferta de vagas pelas IES nos cursos de Licenciatura em Ciências e Matemática é insuficiente para atender a demanda na formação de professores nessa área? Essa foi a questão que norteou a investigação. Nesse sentido, procuramos verificar se há falta de vagas, se houve redução das matrículas, avaliar a evasão, estimar o gasto público anual com as vagas não ocupadas, em 2011, nessas licenciaturas. Em resposta ao questionamento apresentado nesta pesquisa, os resultados corroboram com a análise de Tardif e Lessard (2009), com a perspectiva de um agravamento no déficit de professores. Por outro lado, a pesquisa apontou que os recursos financeiros despendidos pelo Governo, em especial nas Instituições Públicas, pouco efeito produzem devido ao alto percentual de evasão, considerando-se as vagas ofertadas e perda de alunos durante o processo. Cerca de 920 milhões de reais anuais, apenas nas IES Públicas, dos recursos colocados à disposição para formação de professores de Ciências e Matemática não geram resultado efetivo. Contacto principal: [email protected]

Viral pandemics are a serious threat. COVID-19 is not the first, and it won't be the last. To combat the outbreak of the pandemic, most of the countries have used partial to complete lockdown as the only weapon to stop the spread of the virus. In the current scenario, almost all the private sector companies as well as the government offices have suggested all the employees to work from home to stop the community spread of the disease that may occur if people come in mutual contact. While we think of governing authorities around the world, each and every government provides some e-facilities to their citizens to some what extent. Generally E-Governance can be stated as the facility to receive each and everything electronically i.e. you don’t need to go to outside home to receive any document or order. In this paper, we briefly described the different aspects of e-governance.
