The authors examine the debate over youth engagement as it has developed since 1990, especially the role of digital and social media. Despite panics over youth disengagement and the pervasiveness of the youth deficit model, contemporary research largely finds that young people are politically engaged, that new media facilitate youth engagement, and that new media usage tends to reduce inequalities between youth in political engagement. Beyond these general findings, the authors also examine how youth use digital and social media in the development of political knowledge and interest and when participating in campaigns and elections, social movements and protest, political consumption (e.g., boycotts and buycotts), and participatory politics (i.e., traditional and new forms of engagement such as making cultural interventions and circulating information and opinions). For each form of engagement, the authors also assess the role of digital and social media usage in making engagement more inclusive and equitable. The authors close by introducing evidence-based resources that young people have access to online to aid their engagement and thoughts about future research.

New opportunities and challenges are emerging thanks to the growing Internet importance and social media usage. Although practitioners have already recognized the strategic dimension of e-reputation and the power of social media, academic research is still in its infancy when it comes to e-reputation determinants in a social networks context. A study was conducted in the sports setting to explore the impact of social networks on the sportspeople's e-reputation. Whereas the study emphasized (1) the influence of social networks' perception on the sportspeople's e-reputation, and the neutral roles of (2) the motives for following sportspeople online, and (3) the negative content on the Internet, additional insights are formulated on maintaining, restoring and managing e-reputation on social networks. Finally, future research directions are suggested on the role of image to control e-reputation.

The emergence of social media as one of the new media has brought important changes to the world of tourism. Social media has given space to interact with each other. Various types of social media are very popular for young people, including Facebook, Path, Twitter, and Instagram, and others. Social media offers a different experience for tourists in getting information about products and services in tourism. This study aims to examine the impact of social media on tourist behavior. The respondents of this study were tourists who visited the Kakilangit Market, Bantul, Yogyakarta. This study uses quantitative analysis techniques. The results of this study found that social media influences the behavior of tourists in choosing and deciding about the attractions they will visit. The study also found that tourists use social media to communicate, looking for tourist references, as long as they travel. Furthermore, tourists will also share their experiences while traveling on social media. Social media raises the trend of new tourist objects popularized by posting photos and videos by social media users. Photos and videos uploaded on Instagram for example, represent what is owned by a tourist object or even show facts about the condition of a tourist attraction. This certainly will affect the behavior of consumers as tourists so that Instagram provides the possibility of new opportunities and challenges for tourism actors. Tourism actors are required to understand consumer behavior, especially young people as users of social media in order to design the right marketing strategy for their products.

The widespread use of social media has promoted extensive academic research on this channel. The present study conducts a systematic analysis of extant research on social media use among young people in China. This systematic literature review aims to identify and bridge gaps in topics, theories, variables, and conceptual frameworks in studies of social media usage among young people in China. The study aims to develop a cause–effect framework that shows the causal relationships among research structures. The PRISMA method is used to review 20 articles drawn from the Scopus and Google Scholar databases. From the analysis, 10 major research topics, eight theories or models, and a complete framework of causal relations emerge. It is recommended that future research on social media should include a greater diversity of types of social media, investigate a wider range of research topics, and adopt different theories or models. Researchers should also implement a more complete and detailed systematic method for reviewing literature on social media research in China.
