Abstract Objective: This study investigated the effects of Terminalia chebula Retz. (TC) and its two processed products Rubia cordifolia L. per Terminalia chebula Retz. (RTC) and Euphorbia fischeriana Steud per Terminalia chebula Retz. (ETC) on the secretory activity of somatostatin cells in the small intestine in mice. Methods: A total of 168 twenty-day-old SPF Kunming mice were randomly divided into seven groups, i.e., the control (saline, 0.1 g/kg), high TC, RTC, ETC and low TC, RTC, and ETC groups, and administered drugs for 28 days. The cellular localization and expression of SS in the small intestine were assessed by immunohistochemistry after drug delivery for 7, 14, 21 or 28 days. Results: The somatostatin(SS)protein was widely distributed in the small intestines of mice. Immunoreactivity gradually decreased in the duodenum to the ileum. SS immunoreactivity was significantly lower in the high TC, RTC, ETC and low RTC, and ETC groups compared with the control group after drug delivery for 28 days. The efficacy of RTC was better than that of ETC and obviously better than that of TC. The efficacies of high dosages of TC and its processed products were better than those of low dosages of the drugs. SS cells of various shapes, including cone-, spindle-, and ellipse-shaped SS cells, were observed. A large number of SS cells were found in the intestinal gland epithelium and intestinal lamina propria in the control group, and these cells were widely distributed in epithelial cells in the intestinal mucosa and intestinal gland epithelium in the experimental groups. Conclusions: This study indicates that TC and its processed products play an important role in inhibiting the secretion of SS to different degrees. The effect of the RTC at a dosage of 4.0 g·kg–1 BW is the best.

The chief points which are new or noticeable about Microchseta are as follows: (1) The small prostomium. (2) The numerous annuli that make up a somite, more especially in the case of the anterior somites. (3) The small size of the setæ, relative to the size of the worm. (4) The large size of the nephridiopores, and their arrangement in a line with the lateral setæ. (5) The very large size, and complicated structure, of the nephridia themselves. (6) The excessively strong septa of the anterior somites, being much thicker than those figured for other large Earthworms. (7) The great number and small size of the spermathecas. (8) The position of the spermathecae behind the other genital organs, and the presence of more than one pair in a somite. (9) The intestinal gland in somite IX, with a structure similar to that of the calciferous œsophageal glands of Lumbricus agricola. (10) The bifurcation of the dorsal trunk in each of the anterior somites (IV to VIII), and the union of these divisions before passing through the anterior septa of these somites. (11) The great enlargement and thickening of the wall of the dorsal vessel in somite VIII. (12) The curious structures, with unknown function, in somite XII. (13) The position of the supra-pharyngeal ganglion in the somite 1. (14) The absence of a sub-neural blood-vessel.

The aim of this research was to observe intestinal glands histology of duodenum from native chicken, pigeon, and duck. Samples used are duodenum from 3 native chickens, 3 pigeons, and 3 ducks with undifferentiated of sex and weight. Fowl was slaughtered, duodenum were taken out then proceeded for histology method using parraffination and stained with hematoxylin-eosin. Histological observation include the density and morphology of intestinal glands. Data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the intestinal glands histology differ among native chicken, pigeon, and duck but the morphology of intestinal gland was similar that was simple tubular. The number of intestinal glands in native chicken and pigeon almost similar and found in high density but lower than that found in pigeon. This difference assumed to be correlated with type and concentration of feed.

Intestinal duplication in an adult is an uncommon congenital abnormality because only minority of cases present in adulthood. More than 80% of cases occur before the age of two years as an acute abdomen, bowel obstruction or other complications associated with it. Duplication has two types, either cystic or tubular. Here, we report a case of an adult who was diagnosed preoperatively on CT scan as tubular intestinal duplication. CT images showed change in the morphology of the cystic mass after one week of antibiotics administration. On histopathological analysis, the resected duplicated segment had esophageal epithelium in addition to the intestinal gland. So far, we found no report describing CT findings of dynamic change of ileal duplication in the English literatures.
