A Gram-staining-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped bacterium (CF5-1T) was isolated from Hongshan Iron Mine, Daye City, Hubei province, China. The major cellular fatty acids (>10 %) were iso-C16 : 0, iso-C15 : 0, C16 : 1ω7c alcohol and iso-C17 : 1ω9c. The major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylethanolamine. The major respiratory quinone was Q-8. The genomic DNA G+C content was 70.5 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain CF5-1T was most closely related to Arenimonas malthae (95.3 % gene sequence similarity), Arenimonas oryziterrae (94.7 %), Arenimonas donghaensis (94.6 %) and Arenimonas composti (94.5 %). A taxonomic study using a polyphasic approach showed that strain CF5-1T represents a novel species of the genus Arenimonas , for which the name Arenimonas metalli sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is CF5-1T ( = CGMCC 1.10787T = KCTC 23460T = CCTCC AB 2010449T).

A Gram-staining-negative bacterium, strain TS-T86T, was isolated from Lake Tuosu, a saline lake (salinity 5.4 %, w/w) in Qaidam basin, China. Its taxonomic position was determined by using a polyphasic approach. Strain TS-T86T was strictly heterotrophic, aerobic and catalase- and oxidase-positive. Cells were non-spore-forming, non-motile rods, 0.4–0.6 µm wide and 1.2–2.3 µm long. Growth was observed in the presence of 0–9.0 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 2.0 %), at 4–35 °C (optimum, 25 °C) and at pH 7.0–10.5 (optimum, pH 8.5–9.0). Strain TS-T86T contained MK-7 as the predominant respiratory quinone. The major fatty acids (>10 %) were iso-C15 : 1 G, iso-C15 : 0, iso-C17 : 1ω9c, iso-C17 : 0 3-OH and summed feature 3 (C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c). The polar lipids consisted of phosphatidylethanolamine, an unknown phospholipid, six unidentified aminolipids and two uncharacterized lipids. The DNA G+C content was 35 mol% (T m). Phylogenetic trees based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain TS-T86T was associated with the genus Belliella , and showed the highest sequence similarity to Belliella baltica BA134T (98.5 %) and then to Belliella kenyensis No.164T (95.7 %) and Belliella pelovolcani CC-SAL-25T (95.3 %). DNA–DNA relatedness of strain TS-T86T to Belliella baltica DSM 15883T was 32±3 %. It is concluded that strain TS-T86T represents a novel species of the genus Belliella , for which the name Belliella aquatica sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is TS-T86T ( = CGMCC 1.12479T = JCM 19468T).

A Gram-staining-negative, non-motile, yellow-coloured, rod-shaped bacterium, designated S44T, was isolated from bankside soil of Xixi wetland, located in Zhejiang province, China. Growth of strain S44T was observed at 6–37 °C (optimum, 28 °C) and at pH 6.0–9.0 (optimum, 7.0). No growth occurred in the presence of >2 % (w/v) NaCl. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain S44T represented a member of the genus Flavobacterium , showing the highest sequence similarities to the sequences from Flavobacterium succinicans DSM 4002T (96.9 %), Flavobacterium reichenbachii WB 3.2-61T (96.6 %) and Flavobacterium glycines NCBI 105008T (96.5 %). The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 33.6 mol%. The predominant cellular fatty acids were C15 : 0, iso-C15 : 0, anteiso-C15 : 0 and summed feature 3 (comprising C16 : 1ω7c and/or iso-C15 : 0 2-OH), and the major respiratory quinone was menaquinone 6 (MK-6). The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, two unknown aminolipids, two unknown aminophospholipids and four unknown polar lipids. On the basis of the phenotypic and genotypic data, it is proposed that the isolate S44T be classified as representing a novel species of the genus Flavobacterium , for which the name Flavobacterium palustre sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is S44T ( = CGMCC 1.12811T = NBRC 110389T).

A Gram-staining-negative, rod-shaped, gliding and pale-pink-pigmented bacterium, designated strain ZLM-10T, was isolated from a soil sample collected from an arid area in Xinjiang province, China, and characterized in a taxonomic study using a polyphasic approach. The novel strain grew optimally at 30–37 °C and in the presence of 2 % (w/v) sea salts. The only respiratory quinone detected was MK-7 and the major cellular fatty acids were summed feature 3 (iso-C15 : 0 2-OH and/or C16 : 1ω7c), iso-C15 : 0 and iso-C17 : 0 3-OH. The polar lipids consisted of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, an unidentified aminolipid and two unidentified aminophospholipids. The DNA G+C content was 45.4 mol%. Flexirubin-type pigments were not produced. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain ZLM-10T was a member of the phylum Bacteroidetes and appeared most closely related to Cesiribacter roseus 311T (90.2 % sequence similarity), Marivirga sericea LMG 13021T (89.2 %), Cesiribacter andamanensis AMV16T (89.1 %) and Marivirga tractuosa DSM 4126T (89.1 %). On the basis of phenotypic and genotypic data and phylogenetic inference, strain ZLM-10T should be classified as a novel species of a new genus in the family Flammeovirgaceae , for which the name Nafulsella turpanensis gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of the type species is ZLM-10T ( = CCTCC AB 208222T = KCTC 23983T).

A strictly aerobic, Gram-negative, yellow-pigmented, non-spore-forming rod, designated 15C3T, was isolated from aerobic leaf-and-branch compost at EXPO Park in Osaka, Japan. Growth was observed at 9–33 °C (optimum 25 °C) and pH 5.6–7.9 (optimum pH 6.1–7.0). No growth occurred with >2 % (w/v) NaCl. Strain 15C3T reduced nitrate to nitrogen and showed catalase activity but not oxidase activity. The predominant fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0, iso-C17 : 0 3-OH and summed feature 3 (comprising C16 : 1ω7c and/or iso-C15 : 0 2-OH). The isolate contained phosphatidylethanolamine as the major polar lipid and menaquinone-6 as the major respiratory quinone. The G+C content of the genomic DNA of strain 15C3T was 33.6 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain 15C3T belonged to the genus Flavobacterium and was most closely related to Flavobacterium hercynium WB 4.2-33T (96.9 % sequence similarity). On the basis of phenotypic and phylogenetic distinctiveness, strain 15C3T is considered to represent a novel species in the genus Flavobacterium , for which the name Flavobacterium compostarboris sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 15C3T ( = KACC 14224T  = JCM 16527T). Emended descriptions of F. hercynium , Flavobacterium resistens and Flavobacterium johnsoniae are also given.

An aerobic, Gram-stain-negative bacterium, designated CLL7-20T, was isolated from a marine sediment sample from offshore of Changyi, Shandong Province, China. Cells of strain CLL7-20T were rod-shaped, motile with one or more polar flagella, and grew optimally at pH 7.0, at 28 °C and with 3 % (w/v) NaCl. The principal fatty acids of strain CLL7-20T were C16 : 0 and summed feature 3 (C16 : 1 ω7c/C16 : 1 ω6c). The main polar lipids of strain CLL7-20T were phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), phosphatidylglycerol (PG), diphosphatidylglycerol (DPG) and an unidentified aminolipid (AL). Strain CLL7-20T contained Q-9 as the major respiratory quinone. The G+C content of its genomic DNA was 56.2 mol%. Phylogenetically, strain CLL7-20T branched within the genus Marinobacter , with M. daqiaonensis YCSA40T being its closest phylogenetic relative (96.7 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity), followed by M. sediminum R65T (96.6 %). Average nucleotide identity and in silico DNA–DNA hybridization values between strain CLL7-20T and the closest related reference strains were 73.2% and 19.8 %, respectively. On the basis of its phenotypic, phylogenetic and chemotaxonomic characteristics, we suggest that strain CLL7-20T (=MCCC 1A14855T=KCTC 72664T) is the type strain of a novel species in the genus Marinobacter , for which the name Marinobacter changyiensis sp. nov. is proposed. Based on the genomic analysis, siderophore genes were found from strain CLL7-20T, which indicate its potential as a promising alternative to chemical fertilizers in iron-limitated environments such as saline soils.

A Gram-stain-negative, strictly aerobic, non-motile, cream, long rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain ZL136T, was isolated from deep water of the South China Sea. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that this strain belonged to the genus Roseivivax with highest sequence similarity to Roseivivax halodurans OCh 239T (97.0 %), followed by Roseivivax isoporae sw-2T (96.9 %). Growth occurred at 4–37 °C (optimum 32 °C), pH 6.0–10.0 (optimum 8.0) and in the presence of 0–12 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum 3–4 %) in marine broth 2216. Strain ZL136T did not produce bacteriochlorophyll a. The predominant fatty acids were C18 : 1ω7c and/or C18 : 1ω6c, C18 : 0, C16 : 0 and 11-methyl C18 : 1ω7c. The major polar lipids of ZL136T were phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol and an unidentified lipid. The major respiratory quinone was ubiquinone Q-10. The genomic DNA G+C content of strain ZL136T was 67.0 mol%. On the basis of phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic analysis, strain ZL136T was classified as a representative of a novel species in the genus of Roseivivax , for which the name Roseivivax marinus sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is ZL136T ( = JCM 19386T = KCTC 32470T).

A Gram-staining-negative, aerobic and rod-shaped bacterial strain, designated HMC4223T, was isolated from a tidal flat in Taean, Republic of Korea. A phylogenetic tree based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain HMC4223T formed a lineage within the genus Algoriphagus and exhibited highest sequence similarity to Algoriphagus hitonicola 7-UAHT (96.3 %). The major fatty acids of strain HMC4223T were iso-C15 : 0 and summed feature 3 (comprising C16 : 1ω6c and/or C16 : 1ω7c). The major respiratory quinone was MK-7. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine and five unidentified polar lipids. The DNA G+C content of strain HMC4223T was 48.4 mol%. On the basis of the evidence presented in this study, strain HMC4223T represents a novel species of the genus Algoriphagus , for which the name Algoriphagus taeanensis sp. nov. is proposed, with the type strain HMC4223T ( = KCTC 22709T = NBRC 105728T). An emended description of Algoriphagus hitonicola is also presented.

A Gram-staining-negative, non-endospore-forming, non-flagellated, non-motile and rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain LM2-5T, was isolated from activated sludge in a sequencing batch reactor used for the treatment of triphenylmethane dye effluent. The taxonomy of strain LM2-5T was studied by phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic methods. Strain LM2-5T was aerobic, heterotrophic and positive for oxidase but negative for catalase activity. It grew at 16–37 °C (optimum 25 °C) and at pH 5.0–8.5 (optimum between pH 6.5 and pH 7.0). NaCl was not obligatory for growth but was tolerated at concentrations up to 2.0 % (w/v) NaCl. The novel strain formed yellow colonies on trypticase soy agar. Cells of strain LM2-5T were rods that measured 0.3–0.5 µm in width and 3.0–5.0 µm in length. The predominant respiratory quinone was Q-8. The major fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0 and iso-C17 : 1ω9c. The genomic DNA G+C content was 66.7 mol%. In phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences, strain LM2-5T clustered with members of the genus Dokdonella and appeared most closely related to Dokdonella koreensis DS-123T (96.4 % sequence similarity), Dokdonella fugitiva A3T (96.1 %), Dokdonella soli KIS28-6T (95.7 %) and Dokdonella ginsengisoli Gsoil 191T (95.7 %). On the basis of the phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic data, strain LM2-5T was considered to represent a novel species of the genus Dokdonella , for which the name Dokdonella immobilis is proposed. The type strain is LM2-5T ( = CGMCC 1.7659T  = JCM 15763T).

An aerobic, Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain PGW1-R01T, was isolated from fresh water from the Yeongju in the Republic of Korea. The strain grew optimally at 30 °C and at pH 6-8 on R2A agar. The major cellular fatty acids were summed feature 3 [comprising C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c (50.2 %) and iso-C15 : 0 (24.8 %)]. The major respiratory quinone was MK-7. The G+C contents were 39.4 mol% and the predominant respiratory quinone was MK-7. Based on 16S rRNA gene phylogeny, the strain belongs to the genus Mucilaginibacter . The strain PGW1-R01T was closely related to ‘ Mucilaginibacter ginsenosidivorax’ (96.6 % sequence similarity), Mucilaginibacter lappiensis (96.4 %) and Mucilaginibacter flavus (96.4 %). On the basis of the evidence presented in this study, strain PGW1-R01T represents a novel species of the genus Mucilaginibacter , for which the name Mucilaginibacter http://dx.doi.org/10.1601/nm.11437 aquaedulcis sp. nov., is proposed. The type strain is PGW1-R01T( = KCTC 23942T = CECT 8102T).

A Gram-staining-negative, chemoheterotrophic, yellow-pigmented, non-motile, flexirubin-negative, facultatively anaerobic bacterium, designated strain IMCC3317T, was isolated from a coastal seawater sample from the Antarctic Penninsula. Optimal growth of strain IMCC3317T was observed at 20 °C, pH 8.0 and in the presence of 2–3 % NaCl. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain IMCC3317T belonged to the genus Kordia and was closely related to Kordia algicida OT-1T (96.7 % sequence similarity) and Kordia periserrulae IMCC1412T (96.1 % sequence similarity). The major fatty acids were 10-methyl C16 : 0 and/or iso-C16 : 1ω9c, iso-C17 : 0 3-OH, iso-C15 : 0 and anteiso-C15 : 0. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 35.1 mol%. The strain contained menaquinone-6 (MK-6) as the respiratory quinone. The polar lipids detected in the strain were phosphatidylethanolamine and unknown aminophospholipids, aminolipids and polar lipids. On the basis of phylogenetic distinction and differential phenotypic characteristics, it is suggested that strain IMCC3317T ( = KCTC 32292T = NBRC 109401T) be assigned to the genus Kordia as the type strain of a novel species, for which the name Kordia antarctica sp. nov. is proposed.
