Introduction The essential components of a vaccine delivery system are well-documented, but robust evidence on how and why the related processes and implementation strategies prove effective at driving coverage is not well-established. To address this gap, we identified critical success factors associated with advancing key policies and programs that may have led to the substantial changes in routine childhood immunization coverage in Zambia between 2000 and 2018. Methods We conducted mixed-methods research based on an evidence-based conceptual framework of core vaccine system requirements. Additional facilitators and barriers were explored at the national and subnational levels in Zambia. We conducted a thematic analysis grounded in implementation science frameworks to determine the critical success factors for improved vaccine coverage. Results The following success factors emerged: 1) the Inter-agency Coordinating Committee was strengthened for long-term engagement which, complemented by the Zambia Immunization Technical Advisory Group, is valued by the government and integrated into national-level decision-making; 2) the Ministry of Health improved the coordination of data collection and review for informed decision-making across all levels; 3) Regional multi-actor committees identified development priorities, strategies, and funding, and iteratively adjusted policies to account for facilitators, barriers, and lessons learned; 4) Vaccine messaging was disseminated through multiple channels, including the media and community leaders, increasing trust in the government by community members; 5) The Zambia Ministry of Health and Churches Health Association of Zambia formalized a long-term organizational relationship to leverage the strengths of faith-based organizations; and 6) Neighborhood Health Committees spearheaded community-driven strategies via community action planning and ultimately strengthened the link between communities and health facilities. Conclusion Broader health systems strengthening and strong partnerships between various levels of the government, communities, and external organizations were critical factors that accelerated vaccine coverage in Zambia. These partnerships were leveraged to strengthen the overall health system and healthcare governance.

Indian pharmaceutical EMNEs, with significant cost competitiveness, have the potential to partially address the vexing problems of global healthcare industry, including rising cost of the healthcare. In this context, we explore the Critical Success Factors (CSFs) of the pharmaceutical industry, which can help firms focus their resources sharply to break-out faster. Using case study method, we studied two global dominant firms for identifying industry CSFs. Product innovation capabilities emerged as the most important CSF, having the potential to provide competitive advantage for long-term competitiveness of the firms. Other two factors that emerged as CSFs are marketing capabilities and financial capabilities. The study contributes to the literature by linking the success factors to firm capabilities and also specifically to international business literature of EMNE capability building. The study also has implications to practitioners in strategic decision making.

The chapter discusses the three essential components that must be considered to spur innovation. We highlight the best practices associated with these factors through a case study of three organizations.

The rational control of harmful organisms for plants (pests) forms the basis of the integrated pest management (IPM), and is fundamental for ensuring agricultural productivity while maintaining economic and environmental sustainability. The high level of complexity of the decision processes linked to IPM requires careful evaluations, both economic and environmental, considering benefits and costs associated with a management action. Plant protection models and other decision tools (DTs) have assumed a key role in supporting decision-making process in pest management. The advantages of using DTs in IPM are linked to their capacity to process and analyze complex information and to provide outputs supporting the decision-making process. Nowadays, several DTs have been developed, tackling different issues, and have been applied in different climatic conditions and agricultural contexts. However, their use in crop management is restricted to only certain areas and/or to a limited group of users. In this paper, we review the current state-of-the-art related to DTs for IPM, investigate the main modelling approaches used, and the different fields of application. We also identify key drivers influencing their adoption and provide a set of critical success factors to guide the development and facilitate the adoption of DTs in crop protection.

Nowadays, many organizations take Business Intelligence (BI) systems to improve their decision-making processes. Although many organizations have adopted BI systems, not all of these implementations have been successful. This paper seeks to identify critical success factors (CSFs) that impact on successful implementation of BI systems in organizations. So, at first, through literature review, 26 CSFs were identified. Following that, a questionnaire was developed and then filled out by domain experts who had at least three years of experience in BI implementation projects in Iran. Robust Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was run for data analysis, which finally classified 26 CSFs into four distinct groups termed as “organizational”, “human”, “project management”, and “technical”. The results of this study provide a very useful reference for scholars and managers to identify the relevant issues of BI projects in Iran.

With the huge proliferation of Big Data, combined with the increasing demand for analytics-driven decision-making, the data analytics and visualization (DAV) ecosystem is increasingly becoming a trending practice that many enterprises are adopting to gain actionable insights from corporate data for effective decision-making. Although DAV platforms have tremendous benefits, extant research has paid insufficient attention to the investigation of the critical success factors (CSFs) underpinning their successful implementation in enterprises. In order to bridge this knowledge gap, this study presents an integrative framework synthesizing a set of CSFs for implementing DAV platforms in enterprises. A qualitative research methodology, comprising semi-structured interviews with IT and business analysts, was conducted to collect and analyze the interview data. Analysis of results revealed that the CSFs of DAV implementation exist in various dimensions composed of organizational, technological, process, and people perspectives. This study provides several theoretical and practical implications.

Competition dynamically pushes manufacturing ahead. Consequently, design capabilities identified as strategic weapon that offers tremendous opportunities. However, design capabilities development is a stringent challenge to an organization especially in high technology base like automotive. In Malaysia, especially vendors has limited capabilities consequently bound the development steps. There are numerous critical success factors (CSFs) involved in developing successful design capabilities. Thus, makes the development process more complicated. All important CSFs have to be determined and rank accordingly. The CSFs are then applied in a model, using multi criteria decision making approach to facilitate the development process.

Web-based decision support systems are increasingly used over the past years. However, few studies have been conducted on evaluation of web-based decision support systems especially in the field of online shopping. This paper attempts to explore the critical success factors that influence decision making satisfaction in online shopping context by providing a conceptual model for this purpose. Although there are various factors which contribute in making online shopping decisions but this study focuses on five factors i.e. web site quality, data quality, knowledge management, decision making satisfaction, and perceived net benefit. Also, this research will use existing models that explain and predict information systems success. However, these success models need to be updated to recurrent industry developments since the updating existing IS success models, a better understanding of web-based DSS practitioner success can be achieved.

There is often a gap between the creation of knowledge and the use of new knowledge in the economy, a situation which has pushed many governments to establish programmes for knowledge transfer and new-firm formation. I examine the initiatives taken by the government in the Netherlands to advance new-firm formation in biotechnology. Drawing on experience in entrepreneurship—its institutional setting in general, and more specifically on developments in biotechnology start-ups—I aim to identify critical success factors for this policy. The policy seems promising in covering all development stages of start-up firms and in using a network approach—with implementation by an intermediary organisation as a solution for coordination problems. The low popularity of entrepreneurship, including some negative regulatory factors in biotechnology, and the danger of the policy focusing on the top innovative start-ups are threats to success. Other threats may be a fragmentation of ferees and a narrow focus on a national situation rather than cooperation with adjacent countries. I suggest a number of critical success factors that can be used in policies to enhance new-firm formation in biotechnology, and indicate some lines for further research.
