AbstractAn obligately anaerobic, non-motile, Gram-positive coccobacillus strain SW451 was isolated from pooled cecum contents of feral chickens. Comparative analysis based on 16s rRNA sequence showed that strain SW451 had 95.24% nucleotide sequence similarity to Sellimonas intestinalis BR31T, the closest species with a valid taxonomy. The genome of SW451 is 2.67 Mbp with 45.23 mol% of G+C content. The major cellular fatty acids were C16: 0, C14: 0 and C16: 0 DMA. Based on taxonogenomic, physiological, and biochemical analysis, the strain SW451 represents a new species of the genus Sellimonas, for which the name Sellimonas caecigallum sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of Sellimonas caecigallum is SW451 (=DSM 109473T)

Abstract A catalase and oxidase-positive strain BA0156T was isolated from a cyanobacterial mat collected from the farmland mud cultivated with sugarcane from Ahmednagar, India. The 16S rRNA gene of strain BA0156T showed the highest percent sequence similarity with Hydrogenophaga borbori LMG 30805T (98.55 %), followed by H. flava DSM 619T (98.35 %) and H. intermedia DSM 5680T (98.21 %). The strain BA0156T consisted of major fatty acids, C16:0 (25.1 %) and C17:0 cyclo (3.9 %), whereas phosphatidylethanolamine and diphosphatidylglycerol were the major polar lipids. The OrthoANI and dDDH values between strain BA0156T and its closest relative H. borbori LMG 30805T were 84.59 % and 28.3 %, respectively. The DNA G+C content of strain BA0156T was 69.42 mol %. Furthermore, the biochemical and physiological features of strain BA0156T showed a distinct pattern from their closest phylogenetic neighbours. The phenotypic, genotypic and chemotaxonomic characteristics indicated that the strain BA0156T represents a new species for which the name Hydrogenophaga crocea (type strain BA0156 T = MCC 3062T = KCTC 72452T = JCM 34507T) is proposed.

This study describes a novel actinomycete, designated T113T, which was isolated from forest soil in Pyeongchang-gun, Republic of Korea, and is an aerobic, Gram-stain-positive actinobacterium that forms flexibilis chains of smooth, elliptical or short rod-shaped spores. The results of 16S rRNA sequence analysis indicated that strain T113T exhibited high levels of similarity to previously characterized species of the genus Streptomyces (98.19–98.89 %, respectively). However, the results of phylogenetic and DNA–DNA hybridization analyses confirmed that the organism represented a novel member of the genus Streptomyces. Furthermore, using chemotaxonomic and phenotypic analyses it was demonstrated that the strain exhibited characteristics similar to those of other members of the genus Streptomyces. The primary cellular fatty acids expressed by this strain included anteiso-C15 : 0, anteiso-C17 : 0, iso-C15 : 0 and iso-C16 : 0. While diphosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylethanolamine were the predominant lipids expressed by strain T113T, moderate amounts of phosphatidylinositol and phosphatidylinositol mannoside were also detected. Whole-cell hydrolysates contained glucose and ribose, and the predominant menaquinone detected was MK-9 (H6); however, moderate amounts of MK-9 (H8) and trace amounts of MK-10 (H2) and MK-10 (H4) were also detected. We therefore propose that strain T113T be considered as representing a novel species of the genus Streptomyces and propose the name Streptomyces gilvifuscus sp. nov. for this species, with strain T113T ( = KEMB 9005-213T = KACC 18248T = NBRC 110904T) being the type strain.

A Gram-negative, rod-shaped, motile, non-spore-forming bacterium, designated strain A62-14BT, was isolated from a constant-temperature, spring-fed, freshwater lake. On the basis of the complete 16S rRNA gene sequence, strain A62-14BT was shown to belong to the class Gammaproteobacteria, being most closely related to Rheinheimera sp. HTB082 (96.2 % sequence similarity), Rheinheimera baltica (95.01 %), Rheinheimera pacifica (96.35 %), Rheinheimera perlucida and Alishewanella fetalis (95.9 %). The major fatty acids (C16 : 1 ω7c, 38.56 %; C16 : 0, 19.04 %; C12 : 0 3-OH, 12.83 %; C18 : 1 ω7c, 7.70 %) and the motility of strain A62-14BT support its affiliation to the genus Rheinheimera. The salt intolerance of strain A62-14BT, together with the results of other physiological and biochemical tests, allowed the differentiation of this strain from the three species of the genus Rheinheimera with validly published names. Therefore strain A62-14BT represents a novel species of the genus Rheinheimera, for which the name Rheinheimera texasensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is A62-14BT (=ATCC BAA-1235T=DSM 17496T). The description of the genus Rheinheimera is emended to reflect the halointolerance and freshwater origin of strain A62-14BT.

Two Gram-positive, rod-shaped, non-spore-forming bacteria (strains RHLT1-17T and RHLT2-1T) were isolated from Hailuogou glacier in Szechwan province, PR China. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that the strains belonged to the genus Nocardioides and shared 97.8 % sequence similarity with each other and 97.6 and 98.4 % sequence similarity, respectively, with Nocardioides kribbensis KSL-2T. Strain RHLT1-17T grew at 0–35 °C and strain RHLT2-1T grew at 0–25 °C. The major cellular fatty acids of strain RHLT1-17T were C17 : 1ω8c (32.69 %) and iso-C16 : 0 (21.74 %). The major cellular fatty acids of strain RHLT2-1T were C18 : 1ω9c (28.72 %), summed feature 3 (17.14 %; comprising C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c), iso-C16 : 0 (14.35 %), C16 : 0 (9.96 %) and iso-C14 : 0 (8.34 %). Both strains contained ll-2,6-diaminopimelic acid in the cell-wall peptidoglycan and MK-8(H4) as the predominant menaquinone. On the basis of data obtained using a polyphasic approach, two novel species, Nocardioides szechwanensis sp. nov. (type strain RHLT1-17T  = CGMCC 1.11147T  = NBRC 108562T) and Nocardioides psychrotolerans sp. nov. (type strain RHLT2-1T  = CGMCC 1.11156T  = NBRC 108563T), are proposed.

The planarian S. mediterranea is a platyhelminth with worldwide distribution that can regenerate any part of its body after amputation and has the capacity to eliminate a large spectrum of human bacterial pathogens. Surprisingly, the microbiota of S. mediterranea remains poorly investigated. Using the culturomics strategy to study the bacterial component of planarians, we isolated a new bacterial strain, Marseille-Q2390, which we characterized with the taxono-genomic approach that associates phenotypic assays and genome sequencing and analysis. Strain Marseille-Q2390 exhibited a 16S rRNA sequence similarity of 99.36% with Pedobacter kyungheensis strain THG-T17T, the closest phylogenetic neighbor. It is a white-pigmented, Gram-negative, and rod-shaped bacterium. It grows in aerobic conditions and belongs to the family Sphingobacteriaceae. The genome of strain Marseille-Q2390 is 5,919,359 bp-long, with a G + C content of 40.3%. By comparing its genome with other closely related strains, the highest Orthologous Average Nucleotide Identity (Ortho-ANI) and digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) values were 85.71% and 30.50%, respectively, which were found with Pedobacter soli strain 15-51T. We conclude that strain Marseille-Q2390T is sufficiently different from other nearby species to be classified within a new species for which we propose the name Pedobacter ghigonii sp. nov.

A strictly aerobic, non-motile, rod-shaped actinomycete strain, named JC2055T, was isolated from a sediment sample of getbol, the tidal flat of Korea. 16S rDNA analysis revealed that the getbol isolate belonged to the genus Nocardioides with the highest sequence similarity to Nocardioides aquiterrae GW-9T (95·5 %). The major menaquinone was MK-8(H4) and the predominant cellular fatty acids were iso-16 : 0 and 17 : 1ω8c. Tuberculostearic acid was absent. The G+C content of DNA was 72 mol%. Based on the morphological, physiological, biochemical and chemotaxonomical data presented in this study, strain JC2055T can be readily differentiated from other validly named Nocardioides species. The name Nocardioides ganghwensis sp. nov. is proposed for the isolate. The type strain is JC2055T (=IMSNU 14028T=KCTC 9920T=JCM 12124T).

Abstract Two novel Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped, circular, convex, light-pink and white-coloured bacterial strains BT291T and BT350T were isolated from soil collected in Uijeongbu city (37° 44′ 55″ N, 127° 2′ 20″ E) and Jeju island (33° 22′ 48″ N, 126° 31′ 48″ E), respectively, South Korea. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strains BT291T and BT350T belong to a distinct lineage within the genus Microvirga (family Methylobacteriaceae, order Rhizobiales, class Alpha Proteobacteria, phylum Proteobacteria, kingdom Bacteria). The 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity between the two strains BT291T and BT350T was 97.4 %. The two strains were found to have the same quinone system, with Q-10 as the major respiratory quinone. The major polar lipids of strains BT291T and BT350T were phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), diphosphatydilglycerol (DPG), phosphatidylcholine (PC) and phosphatidylglycerol (PG). The major cellular fatty acids of strain BT291T were C18:1 ω7c (58.2 %) and cyclo-C19:0 ω8c (25.7 %). The major cellular fatty acids of strain BT350T were C18:1 ω7c (38.5 %) and cyclo-C19:0 ω8c (27.7 %). Based on the polyphasic analysis (phylogenetic, chemotaxonomic and biochemical), strains BT291T and BT350T can be suggested as two novel bacterial species within the genus Microvirga and the proposed names are Microvirga amygdalina and Microvirga alba, respectively. The type strain of Microvirga amygdalina is BT291T (= KCTC 72368T = NBRC 114845T) and the type strain of Microvirga alba is BT350T (= KCTC 72385T = NBRC 114848T).

A new species of frog in the genus Microhyla is described from Sumatra, Indonesia based on molecular and morphological characters. This new species was previously confused with M. achatina, a Javan endemic. This new species is diagnosable from its congeners by possessing a medium size (SVL in adult males 18.20–21.32 mm, in adult females 20.37–25.51 mm), a stout body, a nostril–eyelid length being about half of the snout length, having a single outer palmar tubercle, a tibiotarsal articulation reaching the center of the eye (when the hindlimbs are stretched and adpressed to the body), having finger and toe tips dilated, having the dorsum with medial longitudinal grooves, and excibiting a very thin and short dark stripe on the temporal region above a wider cream stripe, extending from the postorbital area to insertion of forelimb. Additionally, the new species is characterized by possessing relatively little foot webbing. Uncorrected 16S rRNA sequence divergences between the new taxon and sequences for other congeneric species available ranged from 4.8 to 15.0%.

ABSTRACT Comamonas aquatilis was defined as a new Comamonas species based on its 16S rRNA sequence, but the genome from the type strain SB30-Cr27-3T (= CIP 111491T = CCM 8815T) is not available. We have cultivated from the planarian Schmidtea mediterranea a Comamonas aquatilis strain, LK (= CSUR P6418 = CECT 9772), that exhibits 100% 16S rRNA sequence similarity to strain SB30-Cr27-3T. We have sequenced the genome of strain LK and obtained a chromosome of 4,899,818 bp, with a G+C content of 61.75%, assembled into two contigs.
