A one-dimensional cyanide-bridged coordination polymer, poly[[aquadi-μ-cyanido-κ4C:N-hexacyanido-κ6C-(dimethylformamide-κO)bis(3,4,7,8-tetramethyl-1,10-phenanthroline-κ2N,N′)terbium(III)molybdate(V)] 4.5-hydrate], [MoTb(CN)8(C16H16N2)2(C3H7NO)(H2O)]·4.5H2O}n, has been prepared and characterized through IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The compound consists of one-dimensional chains in which cationic [Tb(tmphen)2(DMF)(H2O)]3+(tmphen is 3,4,7,8-tetramethyl-1,10-phenanthroline) and anionic [MoV(CN)8]3−units are linked in an alternating fashion through bridging cyanide ligands. Neighbouring chains are connected by three types of hydrogen bonds (O—H...O, O—H...N and C—H...O) and by π–π interactions to form a three-dimensional supramolecular structure. In addition, magnetic investigations show that ferromagnetic interactions exist in the compound.

The reaction of AgCF3CO2 with nitrilotriacetate (NTA) yields the three-dimensional silver(i) coordination polymer {Ag3[N(CH2COO)3]}n 1 which was characterized by means of elemental analysis and IR spectroscopy as well as X-ray diffraction. The single crystal structure shows that the NTA3– anions act as unusual heptadentate 13-coordination agents and the silver(i) atoms exhibit various coordination numbers in the range 3–6.

A metal coordination polymer, {[Mn2Mo(CN)8(C12H8N6)(CH3CN)2(H2O)2]·2H2O}n, has been synthesized by the reaction of Mn(ClO4)2·6H2O with 3,6-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1,2,4,5-tetrazine (bptz) and (Bu3N)3[Mo(CN)8] at room temperature. The polymer was characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis and X-ray diffraction, and the magnetic properties were also investigated. The X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the compound is a new three-dimensional coordination polymer with a PtS-type network. Magnetic investigation shows antiferromagnetic coupling between adjacent Mn2+cations.

AbstractThe cyano-bridged heteronuclear coordination polymer of zinc(II)/nickel(II) has been prepared by N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-ethylendiamine (hydet-en), alternatively named 2-(2-aminoethylamino)-ethanol and characterised by IR and thermal analysis. In the bimetallic complex, the decomposition of hydet-en ligands is seen to be endothermic whereas that of the cyano ligands is found to be exothermic. The crystal structure of the complex has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal structure of the zinc(II)-nickel(II) complex consists of a one-dimensional polymeric chain –Zn(hydet-en)

1D chain Ca(II) coordination polymer was synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, IR and single-crystal X-ray diffraction, The results of crystal structure show that each Ca(II) ion forms eight-coordinated and the complex formed one dimensional chain structure by the oxygen atoms of carboxylate and water bridged. The antibacterial activity of the Ca(II) coordination polymer and the ligand were tested, the results show that the complex show considerable antibacterial activity against escherichia coli, bacillus subtilis and staphylococcus white.

A new two-dimensional neutral framework generated from mixed organic ligands [Cu3(1,2,4-BTC)2(4,4/-bipy)(H2O)4] (where1,2,4-BTC = 1,2,4-benzenetricarboxylate), has been prepared under hydrothermal condition and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction and magnetic susceptibilities. Its structure contains two different one-dimensional chains for the Cu ions, namely [Cu2(1,2,4-BTC)2]n2n-and [Cu (4,4/-bipy)]n2n+, respectively; the carboxylate of 1,2,4-BTC ligands links the two different 1-D chains into a interesting steplike supramolecular neutral framework, which exists ferromagnetic interactions between the copper centers.

Coordination polymers with a new rigid ligand 1,3-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)adamantane (L) were prepared by its reaction with cadmium(II) or silver(I) nitrates. Crystal structure of the coordination polymers was determined using single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Silver formed two-dimensional coordination polymer [Ag(L)NO3]n, in which metal ions are linked by 1,3-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)adamantane ligands, coordinated by nitrogen atoms at positions 2 and 4 of 1,2,4-triazole rings. Layers of the coordination polymer consist of rare 18- and 30-membered {Ag2L2} and {Ag4L4} metallocycles. Cadmium(II) nitrate formed two kinds of one-dimensional coordination polymers depending on the metal-to-ligand ratio used in the synthesis. Coordination polymer [Cd(L)2(NO3)2]n was obtained in case of a 1:2 M:L ratio, while for M:L = 2:1 product {[Cd(L)(NO3)2(CH3OH)]·0.5CH3OH}n was isolated. All coordination polymers demonstrated ligand-centered emission near 450 nm upon excitation at 370 nm.

The alkaline earth tricyanomethanides Mg(tcm)2 · 2H2O, Ca(tcm)2, Sr(tcm)2 ・H2O and Ba(tcm)2 · 2H2O were prepared from aqueous solutions of the respective chlorides and silver tricyanomethanide. Their IR spectra and thermal behavior are described. The crystal structures of Ca(tcm)2 and Ba(tcm)2 · 2H2O were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The structure of Ca(tcm)2 is of the type found for several transition metal tricyanomethanides [1], containing two independent interpenetrating networks. Ba(tcm)2 · 2H2O has a unique crystal structure corresponding to a three-dimensional coordination polymer with nine fold coordinated Ba atoms connected by water molecules and tricyanomethanide anions.

The magnetic properties of a novel cobalt-based hydrogen vanadate, Co13.5(OH)6(H0.5VO3.5)2(VO4)6, are reported. This new magnetic material was synthesized in single-crystal form using a conventional hydrothermal method. Its crystal structure was determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data and was also characterized by scanning electron microscopy. Its crystal framework has a dumortierite-like structure consisting of large hexagonal and trigonal channels; the large hexagonal channels contain one-dimensional chains of face-sharing CoO6 octahedra linked to the framework by rings of VO4 tetrahedra, while the trigonal channels are occupied by chains of disordered V2O4 pyramidal groups. The magnetic properties of this material were investigated by DC magnetic measurements, which indicate the occurrence of antiferromagnetic interactions.
