Factors influencing students’ satisfaction in using wireless internet in higher education

Purpose In this age of exponential knowledge growth, where wireless internet is playing a dominant role, the concerned authorities of higher education have to ensure that this tool remains within the reach of the students. However, there has been as yet little research indicating its success in China. This paper aims to examine factors that influence students’ satisfaction (SAT) in using wireless internet in higher education for the purpose of learning. The second aim of this study is to identify if gender has a moderating effect on students’ SAT in using wireless internet in higher education. Design/methodology/approach Data from a total of 283 students from five colleges of a comprehensive public university in China (Foreign Language Studies, Business, Education, Biology and Chemistry, and Mathematics and Engineering) were collected for this study. The reliability and validity of the measurement scale were established through a Rasch model using Winsteps version 3.94. The technology satisfaction model (TSM) was validated applying structural equation modelling (SEM) using AMOS to test the causal relationships among the constructs. Findings The results of this study revealed that students’ SAT was directly influenced by perceived usefulness (PU) and ease of use of wireless internet. Besides, students’ perceived ease of use (PEU) and usefulness were directly affected by their computer self-efficacy. On the other hand, students’ computer self-efficacy had an indirect effect on their SAT mediated by ease of use and perceived usefulness, respectively. The findings also discovered that gender did exert effect as a moderating variable towards students’ SAT in using wireless internet in higher education. Practical implications The TSM was shown to be a useful model to measure students’ SAT in using wireless internet in a different culture. Originality/value To achieve this aim, a TSM on the potential factors contributing to student SAT was developed from the literature and validated in this study. Whereas, the TSM has been developed and validated in Malaysia.

This project validates the Technology Satisfaction Model (TSM) developed. While Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) developed by Davis (1989) ignored the issue of computer self-efficacy and satisfaction. TSM incorporates both. While TAM is used for measuring the acceptance of technology in general; TSM examines the satisfaction on wireless internet usage with a particular focus to the students studying in Higher Education. To develop and validate the TSM, data gained through a survey conducted with 285 students studying in five faculties of a comprehensive public university in Malaysia. Quota sampling technique was used. Instrument reliability and validity were performed by Rasch analysis using Winsteps version 3.49. The results of the study were analyzed by Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) using AMOS version 18.0. The findings showed that perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness had a statistically significant positive direct influence on satisfaction. Subsequently, computer self-efficacy discovered a significant positive direct influence on perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Moreover, the results also demonstrated that computer self-efficacy had a significant indirect influence on satisfaction mediated by perceived usefulness. Eventually, computer self-efficacy also revealed a statistically significant indirect influence on satisfaction mediated by perceived ease of use of wireless internet.

The prime objective of this study was to develop and validate the Technology Adoption and Gratification (TAG) Model to evaluate the adoption and gratification of lecturers in using ICT facilities for their teaching and research purposes in higher education. The second objective of this study was to evaluate the cross-cultural validation of the causal structure of the TAG model. A total of 396 lecturers were collected from two public universities, namely, University of Malaya in Malaysia and Jiaxing University in China using stratified random sampling procedure. The questionnaire's validity was established through Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) using SPSS version 21.0. The data was analyzed applying Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) using AMOS version 18. The findings of the research using the TAG model discovered that the computer self-efficacy of the lecturers had a positive direct impact on their perceived usefulness and ease of use, while the latter two factors also had a significant direct impact on gratification and intention to use, separately. Meanwhile, gratification and actual use of ICT facilities were directly affected by intention to use. Moreover, computer self-efficacy had a positive and significant indirect impact on gratification and intention to use mediated by perceived usefulness and ease of use, respectively. In addition to lecturers' perceived ease of use and usefulness had a significant indirect effect on their gratification mediated by intention to use. The results of the invariance analysis of the TAG model also demonstrated that the model was valid for measuring lecturers' adoption and gratification in using ICT facilities. However, the TAG model works differently in cross-cultural settings. The findings contribute to the existing body of knowledge in the field of ICT by developing and validating the applicability of the TAG Model within institutions of higher education. Once validated the model could then be applied by future researchers, academicians and practitioners in the diverse context of education.

In the 21st century wireless internet technology has been extensively extending and contributing to various aspects of human lives. However, technological assessment and evaluation have been rarely taken place, especially to investigate the satisfaction among students in using wireless internet for learning and research purposes. As such, this study validates the Technology Satisfaction Model proposed by in an academic context for estimating students' satisfaction and the moderating effect of gender in using wireless internet. The findings of SEM analyses attested that students' satisfaction was directly influenced by perceived ease of use and usefulness in using wireless internet and it was also indirectly affected by computer self-efficacy medicated by usefulness and ease of use, respectively. Additionally, computer self-efficacy had a significant direct influence on ease of use and usefulness. The results of invariance analyses also discovered that gender was not a moderating variable for technology satisfaction in an academic context.

Purpose – This paper aims to examine whether self-efficacy plays an important role in shaping the effect of cognition and affects in high technology adoption. It also examines whether cognition and affect mediate the effect of self-efficacy on attitude toward adoption. Design/methodology/approach – Using an experimental survey to collect data, subjects performed two different tasks (utilitarian and hedonic) to make sure that they had cognitive and affective experiences to draw upon as they developed attitudes toward the focal innovation. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the model. Findings – The result shows that self-efficacy influenced cognitive perceptions and emotional reactions. Specifically, self-efficacy was found to play a substantive role in shaping individuals’ attitudes via a cognitive route (perceived usefulness and ease-of-use) and an affective one (pleasure, arousal and dominance). Research limitations/implications – The study of self-efficacy as an external variable provides further insights into the process and is expected to increase the explained variance of the theoretical model. Practical implications – This study confirms that a belief about something besides the product also plays a key role; it is the confidence consumers have in their own abilities to understand and effectively use a new piece of technology. Originality/value – The research makes important contributions to our understanding of technology acceptance and has implications for marketing managers.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the factors that may impact on the acceptance of the e-book amongst mathematics and statistics (MAS) students at higher education institutions in Libya. Design/methodology/approach A theoretical model has been developed based on the technology acceptance model (TAM). The factors divided into three groups: intrinsic variables represent the first group of factors that are related to the user or the potential users itself, such as Self-Efficacy and Resistance to Change. Second, extrinsic variables include all the factors that reflect the characteristics of the e-book and the infrastructure for universities, which are Mobility (M), Facilities (F) and Library Service Quality (LS). TAM constructs from Perceived Ease Of Use (PEOU), Perceived Usefulness (PU), Attitude (AU) and Behaviour Intention (BI) represent the last group. Data relating to the constructs were collected through a self-administered survey in 2014. The developed model was measured and tested by structural equation modelling using AMOS (22.0). Findings The result confirmed that the structural model fits the data well. According to the results, TAM constructs have a significant impact on the acceptance of e-book among MAS students at universities in Libya. In addition, the intrinsic variables play the important role to predict students’ BI. Although the extrinsic variables were less important, Facilities was the strong factor in this group. Originality/value The adoption of e-book amongst higher education students in Libya is still quite low. Hence, identifying the factors that may contribute to e-book adoption is crucial. The contribution of this paper is to determine the factors that effect on the acceptance of e-book amongst MAS students at higher education institutions in Libya.

The utmost reason for this article is to present a detailed assessment of the salient antecedents(computer anxiety, technology related experience, computer self-efficacy, quality of service, quality of system, quality of system's output information, perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use) in determining students' approval and onward contentment towards using LMS in a blended learning environment. In view of this, the study employed a quantitative research design utilizing a questionnaire as the data collection instrument. Data was then obtained from 174 undergraduate students with Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) technique used for data analysis. The study revealed indicators such as perceived usefulness, the quality of the system and computer self efficacy as fundamental determinants of students' acceptance and satisfaction with blended learning. The study recommended among others that in order to achieve satisfaction and acceptance towards LMS usage for blended learning in higher education, institutions need to pay attention to these crucial variables prior to full implementation.

In today’s technology-enriched environment, online research databases have become an indispensable tool in learning and research activities. Libraries worldwide have incorporated them as an integral part of their current service delivery. This study intends to determine whether the technology satisfaction model (TSM) validly measures postgraduate students’ satisfaction of using online research databases in an academic library. It further explores the relationships among antecedents within the model. To measure the components of the TSM, the stratified random sampling strategy was used to conduct a survey with 300 postgraduate students from six faculties of COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) in Pakistan. The data were statistically analysed using the Rasch model and structural equation modelling (SEM). The results of the study illustrate direct and indirect associations among the exogenous, endogenous and mediating variables of the TSM, with the studied postgraduate students’ computer self-efficacy playing a crucial role in influencing their satisfaction. The TSM shows that 69% of the variance in the postgraduate students’ satisfaction can be explained by perceived usefulness, computer self-efficacy and perceived ease of use, which confirm that the TSM has a strong predictive power and is viable for measuring endogenous variable. The findings also make a significant contribution to the testing of databases for academics, service providers and researchers in higher education.

With the rapid uptake of the Internet and e-learning systems worldwide, online research databases have become necessary, even indispensable, tools for research and learning. The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) recognizes the huge potential of databases in improving educational outcomes, and in promoting research among its students and academic staff. In line with its aim to become a research university and centre for educational excellence, the IIUM introduced its online database system in 2000 as part of its e-library services. However, despite a decade of existence, the database was found to be underutilized, especially by postgraduate students. On the other hand, computer self-efficacy had a significant indirect influence on satisfaction mediated by perceived ease of use. Finally, computer self-efficacy also demonstrated a statistically significant indirect influence on satisfaction mediated by perceived usefulness of databases. The findings contributed that the TSM is viable to examine the successful integration of online research databases among postgraduate students in higher education.

This study aims to provide empirical evidence of the influence of individual factors, social factors and institutional factors as the antecedent of behavioral intention through beliefs in using the technology of synchronous e-learning, such as perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Analysis uses structural equation models by using smartPLS software. Results of this research shown the support of 6 out of 7 proposed hypothesis, namely that there is a significant positive relationship between top management commitment and support, references from colleagues and computer self efficacy against perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Keywords: behavioral intention, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, computer self efficacy, synchronous e-learning. ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan bukti empiris pengaruh faktor individual, faktor sosial dan faktor institusional sebagai anteseden behavioral intention melalui kepercayaan-kepercayaan menggunakan teknologi synchronous e-learning, yaitu perceived usefulness dan perceived ease of use. Analisis menggunakan model persamaan structural dengan menggunakan software smartPLS. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdukungnya 6 dari 7 hipotesis yang diajukan yaitu terdapat hubungan positif signifikan antara dukungan dan komitmen manajemen puncak, referensi rekan sejawat dan computer self efficacy terhadap perceived usefulness dan perceived ease of use.Kata kunci: Niat perilaku, kegunaan yang dirasakan, persepsi kemudahan penggunaan, efikasi diri komputer, sinkron e-learning.

E-commerce market in Indonesia has tremendous growth and predicted to become significant contributor to Foreign Direct Investment. Millennials, heavily affected by technology and internet, considered to be the driver growth of e-commerce. Applying the theory of modified Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), this research analyzes whether perceived of ease of use and perceived usefulness mediate the impact of computer self-efficacy on the behavior of e-commerce users to use Lazada platform. The study was a quantitative study with online questionnaire. Data of 200 respondents were analyzed by Structural Equation Modelling and the result shows that computer self-efficacy indirectly affects behavioral intention to use through perceived ease of use. Perceived usefulness and attitude towards use are not significant mediators because of their insignificance on intention to use. Computer self-efficacy has significant impact on behavioral intention mediated by perceived ease of use, but not by perceived usefulness.
