Development and Validation of the Technology Adoption and Gratification (TAG) Model in Higher Education

The prime objective of this study was to develop and validate the Technology Adoption and Gratification (TAG) Model to evaluate the adoption and gratification of lecturers in using ICT facilities for their teaching and research purposes in higher education. The second objective of this study was to evaluate the cross-cultural validation of the causal structure of the TAG model. A total of 396 lecturers were collected from two public universities, namely, University of Malaya in Malaysia and Jiaxing University in China using stratified random sampling procedure. The questionnaire's validity was established through Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) using SPSS version 21.0. The data was analyzed applying Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) using AMOS version 18. The findings of the research using the TAG model discovered that the computer self-efficacy of the lecturers had a positive direct impact on their perceived usefulness and ease of use, while the latter two factors also had a significant direct impact on gratification and intention to use, separately. Meanwhile, gratification and actual use of ICT facilities were directly affected by intention to use. Moreover, computer self-efficacy had a positive and significant indirect impact on gratification and intention to use mediated by perceived usefulness and ease of use, respectively. In addition to lecturers' perceived ease of use and usefulness had a significant indirect effect on their gratification mediated by intention to use. The results of the invariance analysis of the TAG model also demonstrated that the model was valid for measuring lecturers' adoption and gratification in using ICT facilities. However, the TAG model works differently in cross-cultural settings. The findings contribute to the existing body of knowledge in the field of ICT by developing and validating the applicability of the TAG Model within institutions of higher education. Once validated the model could then be applied by future researchers, academicians and practitioners in the diverse context of education.

Abstrak: Aplikasi Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) Pada Komputerisasi Kegiatan Pertanahan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji dan menganalisis pengaruh Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) Pada Komputerisasi Kegiatan Pertanahan. Sebuah metodologi survey digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data 100 karyawan. The purpose of this study was to examine and analyze the effect of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) on computerized land activities. A survey methodology used to collect data of 100 employees. With the rapid uptake of the Internet and e-learning systems worldwide, online research databases have become necessary, even indispensable, tools for research and learning. The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) recognizes the huge potential of databases in improving educational outcomes, and in promoting research among its students and academic staff. In line with its aim to become a research university and centre for educational excellence, the IIUM introduced its online database system in 2000 as part of its e-library services. However, despite a decade of existence, the database was found to be underutilized, especially by postgraduate students. As such, the prime objective of this study is to validate the Technology Satisfaction Model (TSM) to assess its efficacy on students' satisfaction in using online research databases in higher education. A total of 180 postgraduate students from four faculties (Education, Human Sciences, Engineering and Economics) were selected using stratified random sampling procedure. The questionnaires' reliability and validity were performed through a Rasch model using Winsteps version 3.49. The data were analyzed applying the Structural Equation Modeling to test the hypotheses of TSM. The results of this study revealed that computer self-efficacy had a statistically significant direct influence on perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness. Subsequently, students' perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness had statistically significant positive direct influence on their satisfaction in using online research databases. On the other hand, computer self-efficacy had a significant indirect influence on satisfaction mediated by perceived ease of use. Finally, computer self-efficacy also demonstrated a statistically significant indirect influence on satisfaction mediated by perceived usefulness of databases. The findings contributed that the TSM is viable to examine the successful integration of online research databases among postgraduate students in higher education.

E-commerce market in Indonesia has tremendous growth and predicted to become significant contributor to Foreign Direct Investment. Millennials, heavily affected by technology and internet, considered to be the driver growth of e-commerce. Applying the theory of modified Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), this research analyzes whether perceived of ease of use and perceived usefulness mediate the impact of computer self-efficacy on the behavior of e-commerce users to use Lazada platform. The study was a quantitative study with online questionnaire. Data of 200 respondents were analyzed by Structural Equation Modelling and the result shows that computer self-efficacy indirectly affects behavioral intention to use through perceived ease of use. Perceived usefulness and attitude towards use are not significant mediators because of their insignificance on intention to use. Computer self-efficacy has significant impact on behavioral intention mediated by perceived ease of use, but not by perceived usefulness.

This study was conducted to evaluate the factors influencing students’ intention to use E-learning system. Seven dimensions in this study were determined are Computer self-efficacy, Computer experience, Enjoyment, System characteristics and Subjective norm, Perceived ease of use, and Perceived usefulness. In which, Computer self-efficacy, Computer experience, Enjoyment and System characteristics impact on Perceived usefulness of E-learning, while Computer self-efficacy, System characteristics and Subjective norm impact on Perceived ease of E-learning use. Perceived usefulness and Perceived ease of use impact on Intention to use E-learning. The research methodology was conducted in a survey with participation of 246 respondents from 20 universities. The data was analyzed by using descriptive statistics, factor analysis and regression. The empirical results showed that Computer self-efficacy has no impact on Perceived usefulness of E-learning, and System characteristics has no impact on Perceived ease of E-learning use. Finally, this study recommended some solutions, which universities thereby makes some recommendations to universities to attract more students in participating in E-learning until it is officially implemented for the universities’ training systems.

The goal of this research is to understand how recruiters perceive the fit between the characteristics of electronic job marketplaces and their needs, and how that fit influences the use of corporate career portals and expected performance. This paper contributes in providing considerable attention of technological, individual and social factors; thus, it integrates TAM and TTF and incorporates subjective norms and computer self-efficacy into the integrated model. This unique model is developed to interpret recruiters' attitudes towards its actual use, and consequently to understand the expected performance. A total of 145 valid responses collected from HR practitioners at Jordanian banks were statistically analysed. Results showed a good fit between the model’s technological attributes and the task of recruiting. Thus, the results indicated that the proposed model could be used to predict the users' intention toward corporate career portal. The Actual use of corporate career portals was directly affected by perceived usefulness and subjective norms, while there was no effect of perceived ease of use on actual use. Indirectly, fit of technology characteristics to task requirements, and computer self-efficacy have a significant effect on actual use and ultimately on users' performance.

Technology acceptance and usage become obligatory for people when their work modes change as a result of an unexpected but irresistible force. This is especially true for teachers who are reluctant technology adopters compared with their students. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chinese government issued national policies to enforce online teaching and learning. As the success of online teaching largely depends on university faculties' readiness and intentions, how they perceive and practice technology adoption becomes an issue that warrants in-depth research. Unlike their students who grow up with technology and can be seen as digital natives, university faculties may lack competence in using technology, whether to teach or do other tasks. Previous studies on faculties' technology adoption were all conducted in situations where they made volitional decisions to use technology, but their mandatory technology use received scant attention. In addition, although studies suggested that teachers demonstrated features of digital natives, it remains unknown whether or to what extent their digital nativity correlates with technology intentions. To address these research gaps, the current study examined Chinese university faculties' intentions to use technology for online teaching by incorporating digital nativity and computer self-efficacy as key determinants into technology acceptance variables. Results suggested that digital nativity was a key factor that affected university faculties' online teaching, as evidenced by the fact that 67% of the variance could be explained by perceived usefulness, attitudes and digital nativity. In addition, it was also found that computer efficacy significantly influenced perceived ease of use.

<em>Although ICT could bring many benefit  in learning ,however implementation of ICT in the learning process is not easy. In fact, adoption of ICT in learning, is not only occurs in higher education but also in schools. The aim of This study is to identify the impact of Subjective Norm, Image and Computer Self-Efficacy against the behavior of teachers in using ICT in learning.Technology Acceptance Models (TAM) 2 used in the analysis of the behavior of the reception. Data was collected from high school teachers in the city of Jambi. Data were analyzed using SEM method with applications SmartPLS.This study reveals that the consistency of Perceived Usefulness and Perceived Ease of Use has a direct influence on Intention to Use . Subjective Norm and Image provides indirect influence on Intention to Use Computer Self - Efficacy whereas no effect on of Perceived Usefulness , Perceived Ease of Use and Intention to Use</em>
