Customers' experience of purchasing event tickets: mining online reviews based on topic modeling and sentiment analysis

PurposeIn search of creating an extraordinary experience for customers, services have gone beyond the means of a transaction between buyers and sellers. In the event industry, where purchasing tickets online is a common procedure, it remains unclear as to how to enhance the multifaceted experience. This study aims at offering a snapshot into the most valued aspects for consumers and to uncover consumers' feelings toward their experience of purchasing event tickets on third-party ticketing platforms.Design/methodology/approachThis is a cross-disciplinary study that applies knowledge from both data science and services marketing. Under the guise of natural language processing, latent Dirichlet allocation topic modeling and sentiment analysis were used to interpret the embedded meanings based on online reviews.FindingsThe findings conceptualized ten dimensions valued by eventgoers, including technical issues, value of core product and service, word-of-mouth, trustworthiness, professionalism and knowledgeability, customer support, information transparency, additional fee, prior experience and after-sales service. Among these aspects, consumers rated the value of the core product and service to be the most positive experience, whereas the additional fee was considered the least positive one.Originality/valueDrawing from the intersection of natural language processing and the status quo of the event industry, this study offers a better understanding of eventgoers' experiences in the case of purchasing online event tickets. It also provides a hands-on guide for marketers to stage memorable experiences in the era of digitalization.

<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm; line-height: 100%;" align="justify"> </p><p>Este artigo tem o objetivo da avaliar a aplicação de dois métodos automáticos eficientes na extração de palavras-chave, usados pelas comunidades da Linguística de <em>Corpus </em>e do Processamento da Língua Natural para gerar palavras-chave de textos literários: o <em>WordSmith Tools </em>e o <em>Latent Dirichlet Allocation </em>(LDA). As duas ferramentas escolhidas para este trabalho têm suas especificidades e técnicas diferentes de extração, o que nos levou a uma análise orientada para a sua performance. Objetivamos entender, então, como cada método funciona e avaliar sua aplicação em textos literários. Para esse fim, usamos análise humana, com conhecimento do campo dos textos usados. O método LDA foi usado para extrair palavras-chave por meio de sua integração com o <em>Portal Min@s: Corpora de Fala e Escrita</em>, um sistema geral de processamento de <em>corpora</em>, concebido para diferentes pesquisas de Linguística de <em>Corpus</em>. Os resultados do experimento confirmam a eficácia do WordSmith Tools e do LDA na extração de palavras-chave de um <em>corpus </em>literário, além de apontar que é necessária a análise humana das listas em um estágio anterior aos experimentos para complementar a lista gerada automaticamente, cruzando os resultados do WordSmith Tools e do LDA. Também indicam que a intuição linguística do analista humano sobre as listas geradas separadamente pelos dois métodos usados neste estudo foi mais favorável ao uso da lista de palavras-chave do WordSmith Tools.</p>

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the factors that significantly affect the prediction of fake news from the virality theory perspective. The paper looks at a mix of emotion-driven content, sentimental resonance, topic modeling and linguistic features of news articles to predict the probability of fake news. Design/methodology/approach A data set of over 12,000 articles was chosen to develop a model for fake news detection. Machine learning algorithms and natural language processing techniques were used to handle big data with efficiency. Lexicon-based emotion analysis provided eight kinds of emotions used in the article text. The cluster of topics was extracted using topic modeling (five topics), while sentiment analysis provided the resonance between the title and the text. Linguistic features were added to the coding outcomes to develop a logistic regression predictive model for testing the significant variables. Other machine learning algorithms were also executed and compared. Findings The results revealed that positive emotions in a text lower the probability of news being fake. It was also found that sensational content like illegal activities and crime-related content were associated with fake news. The news title and the text exhibiting similar sentiments were found to be having lower chances of being fake. News titles with more words and content with fewer words were found to impact fake news detection significantly. Practical implications Several systems and social media platforms today are trying to implement fake news detection methods to filter the content. This research provides exciting parameters from a viral theory perspective that could help develop automated fake news detectors. Originality/value While several studies have explored fake news detection, this study uses a new perspective on viral theory. It also introduces new parameters like sentimental resonance that could help predict fake news. This study deals with an extensive data set and uses advanced natural language processing to automate the coding techniques in developing the prediction model.

PurposeNeural network (NN)-based deep learning (DL) approach is considered for sentiment analysis (SA) by incorporating convolutional neural network (CNN), bi-directional long short-term memory (Bi-LSTM) and attention methods. Unlike the conventional supervised machine learning natural language processing algorithms, the authors have used unsupervised deep learning algorithms.Design/methodology/approachThe method presented for sentiment analysis is designed using CNN, Bi-LSTM and the attention mechanism. Word2vec word embedding is used for natural language processing (NLP). The discussed approach is designed for sentence-level SA which consists of one embedding layer, two convolutional layers with max-pooling, one LSTM layer and two fully connected (FC) layers. Overall the system training time is 30 min.FindingsThe method performance is analyzed using metrics like precision, recall, F1 score, and accuracy. CNN is helped to reduce the complexity and Bi-LSTM is helped to process the long sequence input text.Originality/valueThe attention mechanism is adopted to decide the significance of every hidden state and give a weighted sum of all the features fed as input.

Genomes have an inherent context dictated by the order in which the nucleotides and higher order genomic elements are arranged in the DNA/RNA. Learning this context is a daunting task, governed by the combinatorial complexity of interactions possible between ordered elements of genomes. Can natural language processing be employed on these orderly, complex and also evolving datatypes (genomic sequences) to reveal the latent patterns or context of genomic elements (e.g Mutations)? Here we present an approach to understand the mutational landscape of Covid-19 by treating the temporally changing (continuously mutating) SARS-CoV-2 genomes as documents. We demonstrate how the analogous interpretation of evolving genomes to temporal literature corpora provides an opportunity to use dynamic topic modeling (DTM) and temporal Word2Vec models to delineate mutation signatures corresponding to different Variants-of-Concerns and tracking the semantic drift of Mutations-of-Concern (MoC). We identified and studied characteristic mutations affiliated to Covid-infection severity and tracked their relationship with MoCs. Our ground work on utility of such temporal NLP models in genomics could supplement ongoing efforts in not only understanding the Covid pandemic but also provide alternative strategies in studying dynamic phenomenon in biological sciences through data science (especially NLP, AI/ML).

The purpose of this paper is to gain insights from the online product reviews of e-commerce sites such as Flipkart and Amazon and analyze its impact on third party sellers. To judge the authenticity of a product, reviews are more useful than ratings, since ratings do not give a complete picture. It is always preferred to consider both the product and seller reviews to have a seamless delivery and defect less product. In this paper, natural processing methods are used to gain insights by considering online reviews of a product. Methods such as sentiment analysis, bag of words model help to understand the impact of online product reviews on the seller's ratings and their performance over some time. The reviews are categorized into positive, negative, and neutral using sentiment analysis. Further, topic modeling is done to find out the topic reviews are majorly referring to. The seller reviews for a specific product after analysis are compared with the overall seller reviews to judge the authenticity. The results of this paper would be beneficial to both the consumers and sellers.

Purpose Governments worldwide are taking various measures to prevent the spreading of COVID virus. One such effort is digital contact tracing. However, the aspect of digital contact tracing was met with criticism, as many critics view this as an attempt of the government to control people and a fundamental breach of privacy. Using machine learning techniques, this study aims to deal with understanding the general public’s emotions toward contact tracing and determining whether there is a change in the attitude of the general public toward digital contact tracing in various months of crises. This study also analyzes the significant concerns voiced out by the general public regarding digital contact tracing. Design/methodology/approach For the analysis, data were collected from Reddit. Reddit posts discussing the digital contact tracing during COVID-19 crises were collected from February 2020 to July 2020. A total of 5,025 original Reddit posts were used for this study. Natural language processing, which is a part of machine learning, was used for this study to understand the sentiments of the general public about contact tracing. Latent Dirichlet allocation was used to understand the significant issues voiced out by the general public while discussing contact tracing. Findings This study was conducted in two parts. Study 1 results show that the percentage of general public viewing the aspect of contact tracing positively had not changed throughout the time period of Data frame (March 2020 to July 2020). However, compared to the initial month of the crises, the later months saw a considerable increase in negative sentiments and a decrease in neutral sentiments regarding the digital contact tracing. Study 2 finds out the significant issues public voices out in their negative sentiments are a violation of privacy, fear of safety and lack of trust in government. Originality/value Although numerous studies were conducted on how to implement contact tracing effectively, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study conducted with an objective of understanding the general public’s perception of contact tracing.

Background: For almost every domain, a tremendous degree of data is accessible in an online and offline mode. Billions of users are daily posting their views or opinions by using different online applications like WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, Instagram etc. Objective: These reviews are constructive for the progress of the venture, civilization, state and even nation. However, this momentous amount of information is useful only if it is collectively and effectively mined. Methodology: Opinion mining is used to extract the thoughts, expression, emotions, critics, appraisal from the data posted by different persons. It is one of the prevailing research techniques that coalesce and employ the features from natural language processing. Here, an amalgamated approach has been employed to mine online reviews. Results: To improve the results of genetic algorithm based opining mining patent, here, a hybrid genetic algorithm and ontology based 3-tier natural language processing framework named GAO_NLP_OM has been designed. First tier is used for preprocessing and corrosion of the sentences. Middle tier is composed of genetic algorithm based searching module, ontology for English sentences, base words for the review, complete set of English words with item and their features. Genetic algorithm is used to expedite the polarity mining process. The last tier is liable for semantic, discourse and feature summarization. Furthermore, the use of ontology assists in progressing more accurate opinion mining model. Conclusion: GAO_NLP_OM is supposed to improve the performance of genetic algorithm based opinion mining patent. The amalgamation of genetic algorithm, ontology and natural language processing seems to produce fast and more precise results. The proposed framework is able to mine simple as well as compound sentences. However, affirmative preceded interrogative, hidden feature and mixed language sentences still be a challenge for the proposed framework.

The use of artificial intelligence in health care has grown quickly. In this sense, we present our work related to the application of Natural Language Processing techniques, as a tool to analyze the sentiment perception of users who answered two questions from the CSQ-8 questionnaires with raw Spanish free-text. Their responses are related to mindfulness, which is a novel technique used to control stress and anxiety caused by different factors in daily life. As such, we proposed an online course where this method was applied in order to improve the quality of life of health care professionals in COVID 19 pandemic times. We also carried out an evaluation of the satisfaction level of the participants involved, with a view to establishing strategies to improve future experiences. To automatically perform this task, we used Natural Language Processing (NLP) models such as swivel embedding, neural networks, and transfer learning, so as to classify the inputs into the following three categories: negative, neutral, and positive. Due to the limited amount of data available—86 registers for the first and 68 for the second—transfer learning techniques were required. The length of the text had no limit from the user’s standpoint, and our approach attained a maximum accuracy of 93.02% and 90.53%, respectively, based on ground truth labeled by three experts. Finally, we proposed a complementary analysis, using computer graphic text representation based on word frequency, to help researchers identify relevant information about the opinions with an objective approach to sentiment. The main conclusion drawn from this work is that the application of NLP techniques in small amounts of data using transfer learning is able to obtain enough accuracy in sentiment analysis and text classification stages.

Abstract Designers are challenged to create sustainable products that resonate with customers, often focusing on engineered sustainability while neglecting perceived sustainability. We previously proposed a method for extracting perceived sustainable features from online reviews using annotations and natural language processing, testing our method with French press coffee carafes. We identified that perceived sustainability may not always align with engineered sustainability. We now investigate how designers can validate perceived features extracted from online reviews using a relatively new design method of collage placement where participants drag and drop products on a collage and select features from a drop-down menu. We created collage activities for participants to evaluate French press products on the three aspects of sustainability: social, environmental, and economic, and on how much they like the products. During the activity participants placed products along the two axes of the collage, sustainability and likeability, and labeled products with descriptive features. We found that participants more often selected our previously extracted features when placing products higher on the sustainability axis, validating that the perceived sustainable features resonate with users. We also measured a low correlation between the two-axes of the collage activity, indicating that perceived sustainability and likeability can be measured separately. In addition, we found that product perceptions across sustainability aspects may differ between demographics. Based on these results, we confirm that the collage is an effective tool for validating sustainability perceptions and that features perceived as sustainable from online reviews resonate with customers when thinking of various sustainability aspects.
