Mobile and other PDA devices allow us to access the World Wide Web anytime and anywhere using fully functional mobile web browsers. This study utilizes the mobile web to deliver services to register students for courses at Fiji National University (FNU). Developing dynamic web based applications for mobile devices is a challenging task, because these devices have limited processing power and physical memory. In order to overcome these limitations, the author proposed layered architecture for the development of this system. This paper describes the architecture, design and implementation of the new system. Experimental results demonstrate that proposed architecture can effectively reduce the client side resource utilization (processing power and physical memory) of dynamic mobile web based systems. Furthermore the author conclude this paper by outlining future work for research in this area.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate the feasibility of creating a declarative user interface language suitable for rapid prototyping of mobile and Web apps. Moreover, this paper presents a new framework for creating responsive user interfaces using JavaScript. Design/methodology/approach – Very little existing research has been done in JavaScript-specific declarative user interface (UI) languages for mobile Web apps. This paper introduces a new framework, along with several case studies that create modern responsive designs programmatically. Findings – The fully implemented prototype verifies the feasibility of a JavaScript-based declarative user interface library. This paper demonstrates that existing solutions are unwieldy and cumbersome to dynamically create and adjust nodes within a visual syntax of program code. Originality/value – This paper presents the Guix.js platform, a declarative UI library for rapid development of Web-based mobile interfaces in JavaScript.


Along with the heterogeneous devices, Web-based content increases the necessity for computational services. However, recent trends make it difficult to execute such computations at the terminal side, whereas service providers often allow computations during different load operations. Many computational services are using conventional distributed systems, which provide successful packet transmission in IP networks. In this chapter, proxy architecture and its related tasks are discussed. Some of the necessary requirements, such as incremental scalability, 24x7 availability, and cost-effectiveness, are recognized for scalable network services. To administrate a large cluster and to construct a cluster-based scalable network services, a layered architecture is recommended. This architecture captures the scalable network service requirements and utilizes service-programming models to perform Transformation, Aggregation, Caching, and Customization (TACC) of Internet substance. For better performance, the architecture with the TACC programming model uses data semantics to create novel network services.

Korean American women have substantially greater incidence rates of cervical cancer and the lowest rates of cervical cancer screening in the United States. However, there has been minimal research to promote human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination among this population. A pilot randomized controlled trial was conducted to evaluate preliminary effectiveness of a storytelling video intervention using mobile, Web-based technology. One hundred and four Korean American college women were randomized to the experimental group (storytelling video) or the comparison group (information-based written material). The effects of the intervention were assessed immediately postintervention and at the 2-month follow-up. Both groups improved in knowledge of and attitude toward the HPV vaccine at the postintervention. At the 2-month follow-up, the experimental group was twice as likely to receive the HPV vaccine compared to the comparison group. This preliminary evidence supports the use of a storytelling video intervention and shows substantial promise for further development and testing in larger scale studies.

Feedback, especially timely, specific, and actionable feedback, frequently does not occur. Efforts to better understand methods to improve the effectiveness of feedback are an important area of educational research. This study represents preliminary work as part of a plan to investigate the perceptions of a student-driven system to request feedback from faculty using a mobile device and Web-based application. We hypothesize that medical students will perceive learner-initiated, timely feedback to be an essential component of clinical education. Furthermore, we predict that students will recognize the use of a mobile device and Web application to be an advantageous and effective method when requesting feedback from supervising physicians. Focus group data from 18 students enrolled in a 4-week anesthesia clerkship revealed the following themes: (1) students often have to solicit feedback, (2) timely feedback is perceived as being advantageous, (3) feedback from faculty is perceived to be more effective, (4) requesting feedback from faculty physicians poses challenges, (5) the decision to request feedback may be influenced by the student’s clinical performance, and (6) using a mobile device and Web application may not guarantee timely feedback. Students perceived using a mobile Web-based application to initiate feedback from supervising physicians to be a valuable method of assessment. However, challenges and barriers were identified.
