This preliminary study attempts to link among the critical success factors on overall project success in public sector organizations in Pakistan.  In this study it’s reflected that major critical success factors (soundness of Business & workforce, planning & control, quality performance and past performance) can enhance the success of the project in Pakistan.  The purpose of this preliminary study was to verify the reliability of the survey instrument which has been used in European countries. It was found that the planning & control was the highest Cronbach Alpha value, while the ranged for each constructs in the present study from 0.68 to 0.88.  Therefore, based on the Cronbach alpha value score, the proposed survey instrument has fulfilled the basic requirement of a valid instrument.

It is inevitable that high-intensity, wide-spectrum electromagnetic emissions are generated by the power electronic equipment of the Extra High Voltage (EHV) power converter station. The surveillance flight of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) is thus, situated in a complex electromagnetic environment. The ubiquitous electromagnetic interference demands higher electromagnetic protection requirements from the UAV construction and operation. This article is related to the UAVs patrol inspections of the power line in the vicinity of the EHV converter station. The article analyzes the electromagnetic interference characteristics of the converter station equipment in the surrounding space and the impact of the electromagnetic emission on the communication circuits of the UAV. The anti-electromagnetic interference countermeasures strive to eliminate or reduce the threats of electromagnetic emissions on the UAV’s hardware and its communication network.

The present work is motivated by the will to improve Finite Element (FE) Modelling of cutting tool wear. As a first step, the characterisation of wear mechanisms and identification of a wear model appear to be fundamental. The key idea of this work consists in using a dedicated tribometer, able to simulate relevant tribological conditions encountered in cutting (pressure, velocity). The tribometer can be used to estimate the evolution of wear versus time for various tribological conditions (pressure, velocity, temperature). Based on this design of experiments, it becomes possible to identify analytically a wear model. As a preliminary study this paper will be focused on the impact of sliding speed at the contact interface between 304L stainless steel and tungsten carbide (WC) coated with titanium nitride (TiN) pin. This experiment enables to observe a modification of wear phenomena between sliding speeds of 60 m/min and 180 m/min. Finally, the impact on macroscopic parameters has been observed.

The COVID-19 pandemic has made a detrimental impact on various tourism subsectors. The financial consequences of this impact should be carefully evaluated to set benchmarks for industry recovery. This study assessed the financial impact of the pandemic on the tourism subsector of visitor attractions in China; 4222 A-grade visitor attractions accounting for over one-third of the national market were surveyed. Data triangulation was subsequently applied to undertake a comprehensive assessment of potential revenue loss. Triangulation was based upon the (1) lost revenue estimates made by tourist attractions’ administrations, (2) reverse estimation of past macroeconomic data, and (3) expert opinion estimates. The assessment results demonstrated that A-grade visitor attractions in China may have lost up to 140 billion RMB (circa US$21 billion) due to COVID-19, with up to 65% of all losses incurred in the first quarter of 2020. The scale of revenue loss varied significantly depending on visitor attraction’s grade, type, and location. Potential strategies for industry recovery are discussed.

As technological advancements and lowered costs make self-driving cars available to more people, it becomes important to understand the dynamics of human-automation interactions for safety and efficacy. We used a dynamical approach to examine data from a previous study on simulated driving with an automated driving assistant. To maximize effect size in this preliminary study, we focused the current analysis on the two lowest and two highest-performing participants. Our visual comparisons were the utilization of the automated system and the impact of perturbations. Low-performing participants toggled and maintained reliance either on automation or themselves for longer periods of time. Decision making of high-performing participants was using the automation briefly and consistently throughout the driving task. Participants who displayed an early understanding of automation capabilities opted for tactical use. Further exploration of individual differences and automation usage styles will help to understand the optimal human-automation-team dynamic and increase safety and efficacy.

Recently, there was a collision accident involving vehicle–concrete median barrier in South Korea, and unfortunately, passengers on the opposite direction road were killed by the flying broken pieces of concrete generated by the collision. Primarily after this accident, we felt the need for developing an improved concrete median barrier up to level of SB6 impact severity in order to minimize the amount of broken pieces of concrete and any possibility of traffic accident casualty under the impact loading of truck. Accordingly, in this study, several designs of concrete median barriers have been examined, and a preliminary study has been conducted for developing and verifying appropriate collision model. First, type of vehicle was selected based on impact analysis on rigid wall. Then, the effects of element size and other key parameters on the capacity of the concrete median barrier under impact were studied. It was found that the key parameters for controlling behaviors of the median barrier under impact loading were contact option, threshold value, and mesh and boundary conditions. Furthermore, as a parametric study, effect of geometry and amount of wire-mesh or steel rebar in concrete median barrier on impact resistances of median barrier for reducing the collision debris were investigated. The amount of volume loss after the collision of truck was compared for various reinforcement ratios.

This article introduces some early data from the Leverhulme Trust-funded research programme, ‘The Impact of the Diasporas on the Making of Britain: evidence, memories, inventions’. One of the interdisciplinary foci of the programme, which incorporates insights from genetics, history, archaeology, linguistics and social psychology, is to investigate how genetic evidence of ancestry is incorporated into identity narratives. In particular, we investigate how ‘applied genetic history’ shapes individual and familial narratives, which are then situated within macro-narratives of the nation and collective memories of immigration and indigenism. It is argued that the construction of genetic evidence as a ‘gold standard’ about ‘where you really come from’ involves a remediation of cultural and archival memory, in the construction of a ‘usable past’. This article is based on initial questionnaire data from a preliminary study of those attending DNA collection sessions in northern England. It presents some early indicators of the perceived importance of being of Viking descent among participants, notes some emerging patterns and considers the implications for contemporary debates on migration, belonging and local and national identity.
