Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) system improves performance as well as the capacity of the wireless system. The use of large number of antennas in a MIMO system increases the hardware complexities and also its price. To overcome this, MIMO systems that activate single transmit antenna at a time, namely transmit antenna selection (TAS) is considered in this paper. Selection combining (SC) and Maximal ratio combining (MRC) are carried out at the receiver over    fading channels. Expressions for outage probability and average bit error rate (ABER) are derived considering TAS/SC as well as TAS/MRC MIMO systems. All the derived expressions are validated by Monte-Carlo simulation results.

In this paper, we propose and analyze a wirelesstransmitter, for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, that relies exclusively on energy harvesting. We consider wirelesstransceivers where the transmitter harvests the total requiredenergy from its environment through various sources. We assumethat both transmitter and receiver are equipped with multipleantennas. At the transmitter, a single transmit antenna thatmaximizes the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at the receiver isselected for transmission. The remaining antennas are used forenergy harvesting. At the receiver side, maximal-ratio com-bining (MRC) is used. Furthermore, we assume that all theharvested power is used to power the transmitter immediately. The performance of the proposed scheme is analyzed in terms ofoutage probability (OP), symbol error rate (SER) and channelcapacity. The harvested energy comes from random sourcesand is considered as a random variable. Assuming that theharvested power follows a gamma distribution and the MIMOchannel is a Rayleigh flat fading process, we derive a closed-form expressions for the exact cumulative distribution function(CDF) and probability density function (PDF) of the SNR. Basedon this, we analyze the performance of the proposed energyharvesting scheme. The obtained analytical results are validatedby comparing them with the results of Monte-Carlo simulations.

This paper presents a VLSI architecture for the suboptimal hard-output Vertical-Bell Laboratories Layered Space-Time (V-BLAST) algorithm in the context of Spatial Multiplexing Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (SM-MIMO) systems immersed in Rayleigh fading channels. The design and implementation of its corresponding data-path and control-path components over FPGA devices are considered. Results on synthesis, bit error rate performance, and data throughput are reported.

Joint precoding and antenna selection both on transmitter and receiver sides is one of the promising research areas for evolving toward the Multiple Transmission and Reception Points (Multi-TRP) concept in Massive MIMO systems. This technology is under active development in the coming 5G 3GPP releases. We analyze legal restrictions for the implementation of 5G Massive MIMO technologies in Russia and the specifics of the implementation of the developed algorithm in the millimeter wavelength range. Algorithms of antenna auto-selection matrices formation on both transmitting and receiving sides are considered. Two criteria are used for joint antenna selection and precoding: maximizing mutual information and minimizing mean square error.

Self-encoded spread spectrum (SESS) is a novel communication technique that derives its spreading code from the randomness of the source stream rather than using conventional pseudorandom noise (PN) code. In this paper, we propose to incorporate SESS in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems as a means to combat against fading effects in wireless channels. Orthogonal space-time block-coded MIMO technique is employed to achieve spatial diversity, and the inherent temporal diversity in SESS modulation is exploited with iterative detection. Simulation results demonstrate that MIMO-SESS can effectively mitigate the channel fading effect such that the system can achieve a bit error rate of with very low signal-to-noise ratio, from 3.3 dB for a antenna configuration to just less than 0 dB for a configuration under Rayleigh fading. The performance improvement for the case is as much as 6.7 dB when compared to an MIMO PN-coded spread spectrum system.

<p>Multiple input-multiple output (MIMO) is a multipath diversity exploring approach which is emerged with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) to produce MIMO-OFDM that is widely used in wireless communications. This paper presents a discrete Hart-ley transform (DHT) precoded MIMO-OFDM system over multipath frequency-selective fading channel with large-size quadrature amplitude modulation (16-QAM, 64-QAM and 256-QAM). A mathematical models for the BER and channel capacity over mutlipath fading channels are also derived in this paper. Average Bit-error-rate (BER) and channel capacity of the presented system is considered and compared with that of the traditional MIMO-OFDM. Simulation results shows that the transmission performance and channel capacity of the proposed schemes is better than that of the traditional MIMO-OFDM without a pre-coder.</p>

<p>Massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems are considered a promising solution to minimize multiuser interference (MUI) based on simple precoding techniques with a massive antenna array at a base station (BS). This paper presents a novel approach of beam division multiple access (BDMA) which BS transmit signals to multiusers at the same time via different beams based on hybrid beamforming and user-beam schedule. With the selection of users whose steering vectors are orthogonal to each other, interference between users is significantly improved. While, the efficiency spectrum of proposed scheme reaches to the performance of fully digital solutions, the multiuser interference is considerably reduced.</p>

Future Wireless Networks are expected to adopt multi-user multiple input multiple output (MU-MIMO) systems whose performance is maximized by making use of precoding at the transmitter. This chapter describes the recent advances in precoding design for MU-MIMO and introduces a new technique to improve the precoder performance. Without claiming to be comprehensive, the chapter gives deep introduction on basic MIMO techniques covering the basics of single user multiple input multiple output (SU-MIMO) links, its capacity, various transmission strategies, SU-MIMO link precoding, and MIMO receiver structures. After the introduction, MU-MIMO system model is defined and maximum achievable rate regions for both MU-MIMO broadcast and MU-MIMO multiple access channels are explained. It is followed by critical literature review on linear precoding design for MU-MIMO broadcast channel. This paves the way for introducing an improved technique of precoding design that is followed by its performance evaluation.
