In the paper, flow status and solidification status of molten steel in inner-outer couple cooling mold in the filling process are simulated by using fluid dynamics software Flow-3d, and obtain distributing diagrams of flow field and temperature field and free-surface shape diagrams in the filling process. Influences of flow field and temperature field of filling process on solidification are analyzed in the slab continuous casting. It is indicated that inner cooler can improve molten steel flow status, which is favorable to inclusion in molten steel floating up, quicken the solidification rate of molten steel in the mold.

The paper based on the SOLA-VOF, depended on the meaning of the equation result in the algebra and geometry, brings forward a new idea and the rapid iterative arithmetic. According to the rapid iterative arithmetic, a program of the rapid calculating method of flow field and the numerical simulation experiment using the standard casting have been made by the author. The result showed that the calculating efficiency has increased by 3~4 times than before, the accuracy equals to the SOLA-VOF, which can meet the requirements of the application.

With the development of computer technology, casting simulation plays an increasingly important role in foundry production. VOF (Volume of Fluid) method which tracks free surfaces is widely used in casting simulation because it is simple to solve and easy to achieve. However, in the last stage of mold filling process, the solution speed of VOF method is very slow because the space to fill becomes smaller. To solve this problem, interpolation formula is applied to the calculation of temperature field and an interpolation method to calculate the last part of temperature field in mold filling process is presented in this paper. The solution is to calculate temperature field of unfilled grids based on the temperature filed of filled grids at the last stage of filling process. Comparison between the results of interpolation method and theoretical calculation illustrates the rationality of the interpolation temperature field in this paper. Numerical simulations of actual castings indicate that the interpolation method can greatly improve the speed of getting temperature field under a certain accuracy. This paper has important implications to the calculation of numerical simulation in mold filling process.

With the emergence of quality by design in the pharmaceutical industry, it becomes imperative to gain a deeper mechanistic understanding of factors impacting the flow of a formulation into tableting dies. Many flow characterization techniques are present, but so far only a few have shown to mimic the die filling process successfully. One of the challenges in mimicking the die filling process is the impact of rheological powder behavior as a result of differences in flow field in the feeding frame. In the current study, the rheological behavior was investigated for a wide range of excipients with a wide range of material properties. A new parameter for rheological behavior was introduced, which is a measure for the change in dynamic cohesive index upon changes in flow field. Particle size distribution was identified as a main contributing factor to the rheological behavior of powders. The presence of fines between larger particles turned out to reduce the rheological index, which the authors explain by improved particle separation at more dynamic flow fields. This study also revealed that obtained insights on rheological behavior can be used to optimize agitator settings in a tableting machine.

Cast molding is the main manufacture process in foundry, because the most disfigurements occurs in this step, while the foundry itself is a complex non-linear instantaneous transferring heat process, in which it should take the absorbing and releasing potential heat into account. In this paper, it simulates the temperature field changing process of the cast solidification in ANSYS software, gets the temperature field change rule for a typical cast, and analyzed the effect of different foundry technics parameters on composite interface temperature, which will provide numerical bases for optimizing foundry technics parameters in future.

In the production process of large-diameter seamless steel pipes, the blank heating quality before roll piercing has an important effect on whether subsequently conforming piping is produced. Obtaining accurate pipe blank heating temperature fields is the basis for establishing and optimizing a seamless pipe heating schedule. In this paper, the thermal process in a regenerative heating furnace was studied using fluent software, and the distribution laws of the flow field in the furnace and of the temperature field around the pipe blanks were obtained and verified experimentally. The heating furnace for pipe blanks was analyzed from multiple perspectives, including overall flow field, flow fields at different cross sections, and overall temperature field. It was found that the changeover process of the regenerative heating furnace caused the temperature in the upper part of the furnace to fluctuate. Under the pipe blanks, the gas flow was relatively thin, and the flow velocity was relatively low, facilitating the formation of a viscous turbulent layer and thereby inhibiting heat exchange around the pipe blanks. The mutual interference between the gas flow from burners and the return gas from the furnace tail flue led to different flow velocity directions at different positions, and such interference was relatively evident in the middle part of the furnace. A temperature “layering” phenomenon occurred between the upper and lower parts of the pipe blanks. The study in this paper has some significant usefulness for in-depth exploration of the characteristics of regenerative heating furnaces for steel pipes.

An inner-outer coupled cooling technology of molten steel for 1240×200mm slab continuous casting, that is to set an inner cooler—U shape pipes in the mold, is put forward in order to enhance the efficiency of transmitting heat and improve inner structure of billet. The flow status and solidification status of molten steel under coupling flow field and temperature field in inner-outer coupled cooling mold are simulated by using fluid dynamics software, and compare with those in traditional mold. It is found that setting inner cooler in the mold can make molten steel flow status even, which is favorable to floating up of the inclusion, quickening the solidification of steel liquid and improving the quality of billet.
