In army industry are some of machine elements that are subjected to wear solicitations and must have a high wear resistance. The impact of their damage and also their maintenance costs are very high, that is why we proposed to improve their performances. Researches in surface engineering allow the obtaining of new systems of materials by coating the base material surface with other material having superior properties. In order to improve the machine elements durability, we proposed to obtain a new system of materials by thermal deposition. We have chosen the steel type OLC45 as base material and we coated it with CNiCrSiBO. We made the samples which we have analyzed by X-Ray Diffraction and we obtained the quality of the coating. The results showed that the new material has a better structure than the base material, and we can estimate a high durability of the machine elements coated.

Thin hard physical vapour deposited (PVD) coatings are today frequently used in order to improve the tribological performance of forming tools, cutting tools, and machine elements [1]. PVD TiN coating is widely used in high-speed steel cutting tools. Studies on the friction, wear characteristics and failure mechanisms of this coating have shown that it can reduce wear and diminish the failure of components. This coating frequently offers good corrosion protection and surface finish, high wear resistance and low coefficient of friction. On the other hand, PVD DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating provides a low friction and a high sliding wear resistance to enhance the tribological behavior and the durability of running components. DLC is becoming widely used as surface coating for machine components in lubricated systems, especially in the automotive industry. DLC coatings are nowadays frequently used in applications under high stress and/or under boundary or mixed lubrication regime and the range of use for these coatings keep growing rapidly.

The relevance of the search for solutions to increase the wear resistance of bucket teeth of excavating machine type front shovel is analyzed. The reasons for the wear of the teeth are considered. It is determined that when excavating machines work for rocks of VIII and IX categories, impact-abrasive wear of the inner side of the teeth and abrasive external wear occurs. It is proved that the cold-work hardening of Hadfield steel (the teeth material), which occurs during the excavating machine teeth work in the rocks of VIII and IX categories, reduces the impact-abrasive wear rate on the inner side of the teeth and does not affect the abrasive wear of the outer. The methods for thermomechanical treatment of the outer side of the excavating machine tooth is proposed. It can increase the wear resistance of Hadfield steel (110G13L) up to 1.7 times and lead to the self-sharpening effect of the tooth due to equalization of the wear rate of the outer and inner parts of the tooth. The efficiency factor of thermomechanical treatment to reduce the of abrasive wear rate of Hadfield steel is experimentally proved.

The wear resistance and wear characteristics of cluster-gradient architecture (CGA) nanostructured topocomposites are studied. The specifics of tribocontact interaction under microcutting conditions is considered. The reasons for retention of high wear resistance of this class of nanostructured topocomposites are studied. The mechanisms of energy dissipation from the tribocontact zone, due to the nanogeometry and the structural-phase structure of CGA topocomposites are analyzed. The role of triboactivated deformation and diffusion processes in providing increased wear resistance of carbide-based topocomposites is shown. They are tested under the conditions of blade processing of heat-resistant titanium alloy.
