This chapter emphasizes the utilization of the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) as a backup power source for residential loads in under-developing and developing countries. It works as a source of energy in residential micro-grid based on the condition of vehicle battery without harming its function as an EV (electric vehicle). The suggested V2H system uses solar PV power to charge vehicle battery; therefore, the entire system works as a residential nano-grid system. The EV is considered as a load of home when its batteries are charged by solar PV or grid. However, the main emphasis is given to use solar PV power to reduce charging from the grid. The key objectives of this work are to minimize the energy cost of a household by reducing the dependency of residential loads on the power grid to enhance the reliability of power supply to residential loads during load shedding and blackouts and to maximize the utilization of power produced by solar PV array mounted on the rooftop.

Abstract Technical challenges associated with telomere length (TL) measurements have prompted concerns regarding their utility as a biomarker of aging. Several factors influence TL assessment via qPCR, the most common measurement method in epidemiological studies, including storage conditions and DNA extraction method. Here, we tested the impact of power supply during the qPCR assay. Momentary fluctuations in power can affect the functioning of high-performance electronics, including real-time thermocyclers. We investigated if mitigating these fluctuations by using an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) influenced TL assessment via qPCR. Samples run with a UPS had significantly lower standard deviation (p < 0.001) and coefficient of variation (p < 0.001) across technical replicates than those run without a UPS. UPS usage also improved exponential amplification efficiency at the replicate, sample, and plate levels. Together these improvements translated to increased performance across metrics of external validity including correlation with age, within-person correlation across tissues, and correlation between parents and offspring.

Mobility has been changing precipitously in recent years. With the increasing number of electric vehicles (EV), travel-sharing continues to grow, and ultimately, autonomous vehicles (AV) move into municipal fleets. These changes require a new, distributed, digitalised energy system, maintenance, and growing electrification in transportation. This paper proposes the designing of an Electric Vehicle Charging Station (EVCS) by using hybrid energy sources such as solar PV, wind, and diesel generator. The proposed system is mathematically modelled and designed using the Hybrid Optimization Model for Multiple Energy Resources (HOMER). The system is analysed and assessed in both autonomous mode and grid-connected mode of operation. The optimum sizing, energy yields of the system in each case is elaborated, and the best configuration is found for design. The variations in Levelized Cost Of the Energy (LCOE), Net Present Cost (NPC), initial cost, and operating cost of the various configuration are presented. From the results, it is observed that the grid-connected EVCS is more economical than the autonomous EVCS. Further, a sensitivity analysis of the EVCS is also performed.
