The effectiveness of manufacturing equipment use taking into account its productivity and reliability for faulty parts of transmission units in municipal buses is estimated. The on-line mode is the most effective method of control allowing the tracking of the processes of technical state changes in municipal buses. As a result of monitoring there were obtained selected data on PAZ-3205 municipal bus operated under winter conditions in the city of Ohrenburg. During the trip there was recorded 39.1 l/100km petrol consumption. The residual life of the PAZ-3205 municipal bus was 1800km.

A system for on-line measurement and sorting of ball bearings is presented in this paper. The structures and functions of its automatic testing mechanics and control system are described in detail. The system sorts the tested bearings into four grades by measured values of vibration parameters such as root-mean-square value, peak value, crest factor and kurtosis. Its stability of indication values is between ± 1.0 dB. The mechanism generating abnormal sounds of bearings is also investigated emphatically and the characteristics of abnormal sound signals are described on the basis of vibration model of tested bearing.

The main challenge of long-time creep monitoring on site is a reliable sensor. In this paper, a sensing device is developed specifically for high temperature creep monitoring. And it is applied to on-line monitor the strain of material on T-joint of main steam piping. Its reliability is verified theoretically using the finite element method and experimentally by high temperature on site test. The creep damage of the T joint is evaluated basing on the creep rate sensed by the sensing device. And the residual life is predicted for the piping system using the Monkman-Grant equation. This system is useful for safety assessment procedures in thermal power plant, nuclear power plant and petrochemical industries.

Creep strength and life of material is closely related with the microstructural characteristics. Components used under creep condition for long time are unable to maintain the stability of microstructure and experience degradation of material. From this viewpoint, it is necessary for safety and residual life of power plant to investigate creep properties of specimens prepared from the material cut directly from the operating service components. The small punch test has been developed as a useful method to estimate mechanical properties because of its miniaturized specimen size. In this study, small punch creep tests were carried out to investigate the effect of aging time on creep properties using P92 steel aged from 0~12100 hrs at 600°C.

Japan has many aged thermal power plant facilities and some boilers in such facilities have been in operation for more than 100,000 hours, so the importance of creep residual life evaluation of components exposed to severe conditions has been increasing. Although creep residual life of such components can be evaluated by destructive methods relatively accurately, they significantly affect the component to be sampled, take a long time to carry out and are high-cost. To solve these problems, Kobe Material Testing Laboratory Co., Ltd. and Kyushu Electric Power Co., Inc. have jointly developed compact-sized and less expensive small punch creep testing equipment for accurate creep residual life evaluation. Outer dimensions of developed equipment are 660W × 335D × 807H (mm); weight is 130kg. Small punch creep test can be conducted by this testing equipment, in order to identify creep property using 8mm diameter and 0.5mm thickness specimens taken from tubes or pipes of thermal power plant facilities, and evaluate remaining life. The testing equipment is expected to improve efficiency and reduce costs to evaluate material characteristics and creep residual life for facilities in power plants and various industries.
