Abstract Circular disk is a basic mechanical element, which is used widely in industry such as turbine machine, circular saw, and computer memory. Considering the requirements for the actuator to control the transverse vibration of circular disk, the non-contact electromagnetic actuator which can produce large actuating force is used, and a whole set of control system that is composed of analog components is built. The good experimental results are obtained by using the control system to control the transverse vibration of circular disk.

Based on the investigation of active gear pair vibration control system, an adaptive controller combined with Filtered-X method and RLS algorithm is developed to reduce the periodic vibration of gear driven shaft. The active control of the gear shaft transverse vibration is simulated to validate the efficiency of the proposed Filtered-X RLS algorithm (FXRLS). The results indicate that the FXRLS is significantly better in convergence speed and stability than the commonly used Filtered-X LMS algorithm (FXLMS), and the stability and convergence are more robust.

The low-frequency noise generated by the vibration of the compressor in the machinery room of refrigerators is considered as annoying sound. Active noise control is used to reduce this noise without any change in the design of the compressor in the machinery room. In configuring the control system, various signals are measured and analyzed to select the reference signal that best represents the compressor noise. As the space inside the machinery room is small, the size of a speaker is limited, and the magnitude of the controller transfer function is designed to be small at low frequencies, the controller uses FIR filter structure converged by the FxLMS algorithm using the pre-measured time signal. To manage the convergence speed for each frequency, the frequency-weighting function is applied to FxLMS algorithm. A series of measurements are performed to design the controller and to evaluate the control performance. After the control, the sound power transmitted by the refrigerator is reduced by 9 dB at the first dominant frequency (408 Hz in this case) and 3 dB at the second dominant frequency (459 Hz here), and the overall sound power decreases by 2.6 dB. Through this study, an active control system for the noise generated by refrigerator compressors is established.

Based on a prediction method of the scattered sound pressure, an active control system was proposed in previous work for the three-dimension scattered radiation, where all the relevant simulations and experiments were implemented in three-dimensional free sound field. However, for practical applications, such as the anti-eavesdropping system or the stealth system for submarines, the sound field conditions are usually complex, and the most common case is the one with reflecting surface. It is questionable whether the previous control system is still effective in non-free sound field, or what improvements should be operated to ensure the control effect. In this article, based on the mirror image principle, two methods of calculating the control source strengths are proposed for the scattered radiation control, and numerical simulations with one-channel and multi-channel system are implemented to detect the corresponding control effect. It is seen that the local active control for the scattered radiation is still effective, and the reduction of the sound pressure level as well as the control area is extended with the increasement of the error sensors and control sources.

A method for measuring both dissolved ozone (DO3) concentration and UV absorbance was developed adopting ultraviolet (UV) absorption method (JWWA, 1993) using sodium thiosulfate (Na2S2O3) solution for removing residual ozone in ozonated water. A DO3 monitor based on this method was tested. This method was proven to be effective from experimental results. The performance of the monitor was examined with continuous ozonated water. As a result, the monitor performed stably during about 2 months, so that both DO3 concentration and UV absorbance in the ozonated water could be accurately measured. Therefore, the authors have proposed the new aquatic control system with this monitor for ozonation.

Electromagnetic actuator systems composed of an induction servo motor (ISM) drive system and a rice milling machine system have widely been used in agricultural applications. In order to achieve a finer control performance, a witty control system using a revised recurrent Jacobi polynomial neural network (RRJPNN) control and two remunerated controls with an altered bat search algorithm (ABSA) method is proposed to control electromagnetic actuator systems. The witty control system with finer learning capability can fulfill the RRJPNN control, which involves an attunement law, two remunerated controls, which have two evaluation laws, and a dominator control. Based on the Lyapunov stability principle, the attunement law in the RRJPNN control and two evaluation laws in the two remunerated controls are derived. Moreover, the ABSA method can acquire the adjustable learning rates to quicken convergence of weights. Finally, the proposed control method exhibits a finer control performance that is confirmed by experimental results.

To control wheeled inverted pendulum is a good way to test all kinds of theories of control. The control law is designed, and it based on the collaborative simulation of MATLAB and ADAMS is used to control wheeled inverted pendulum. Then, with own design of hardware and software of control system, sliding mode control is used to wheeled inverted pendulum, and the experimental results of it indicate short adjusting time, the small overshoot and high performance.

Abstract Many studies have been introduced in the literature showing that two identical chaotic systems can be synchronized with different initial conditions. Secure data communication applications have also been made using synchronization methods. In the study, synchronization times of two popular synchronization methods are compared, which is an important issue for communication. Among the synchronization methods, active control, integer, and fractional-order Pecaro Carroll (P-C) method was used to synchronize the Burke-Shaw chaotic attractor. The experimental results showed that the P-C method with optimum fractional-order is synchronized in 2.35 times shorter time than the active control method. This shows that the P-C method using fractional-order creates less delay in synchronization and is more convenient to use in secure communication applications.

An automatic control system for multi-axes motions based on multi-CPU embedded systems is proposed in the paper, in order to overcome insufficiencies of available multi-axes automatic dispensing control systems. It is shown from experimental results that expected control objectives for multi-axes motions are achieved.
