Understanding Business Process needs is critical to successful implementation of new Information Technology. Understanding Information Technology capabilities is critical to successful evolution of Business Processes. Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems have been in the gas industry since the 1960’s. Earlier systems provided some data or information from the remotely controlled locations and a few key inter-connections. Now, sophisticated networked systems which contain layers of information detail from field devices and other computerized processes, feed simulators designed to study the process, use expert systems to advise on capability, and provide excellent data and information retention and retrieval tools. The potential to automate business processes is more complete than ever before. Computers can now help to manage integrated business processes where important data and information is moved regularly from one business process to another under the watchful eye of validation steps, at specified frequencies, with all the necessary reporting to process workers about the health, and performance, of the business process, process links, and the computer system. The business must understand the benefits and constraints which technology offers to a business process, and find ways to evolve the process with the new technology in hand. The IT manager must understand the business process needs in order to provide the appropriate technology to enable the business process with quick-change capability when change is indicated. This paper explores some of the relationships between the business process, and the technology impacting the process, on the way to producing a flexible, enduring, and friendly SCADA network, ready to interact with other SCADA systems, other internal processes, and the external world.

In a market economy, there are a significant number of shipping companies that compete with each other and fight for maximum profits in a highly competitive environment. Competitive advantages lie in the plane of organization of the fleet, which relate mainly to the management of shipping companies. Operators of shipping companies establish tactical and strategic cooperation with freight forwarders and other participants in the logistics chain for the successful implementation of business processes and subprocesses. The study of the water transport of Ukraine from 2002 to 2020 revealed that in this period there were significant structural changes in freight turnover and traffic, which indicates the presence of serious systemic problems in management. If current trends continue, the national economy may lose such a strategically important sector. The shortcomings in the field of international maritime transport are caused, among other things, by inefficient management of business processes of Ukrainian shipping companies. The business process of a shipping company is a set of interdependent tasks and works aimed at creating a product or service to meet the needs of their customers. The business processes of shipping companies are due to the characteristics of staff and the processes of international trade. Thus, the personnel of shipping companies, concentrated in the operational units, provide a range of services that ensure the movement of goods and passengers with the required level of quality. The complex of such services is described by many business processes and represents the main processes of the shipping company. Improving the business processes of these companies must be viewed through the prism of the field of logistics, the main factors in the development of which are staff and international trade trends. Research and study of international experience in the field of business process management and its implementation in the activities of shipping companies of Ukraine to some extent will improve the declining trends in freight traffic and water transport, which have been observed in recent years.

Business Process Management (BPM) brings together the idea of effectively managing organizations and properly using Information Technology to fulfill organizations’ needs. For this purpose, BPM systems are largely used nowadays. However, most process models are started from scratch, not having reuse promoted. Sometimes, large enterprises have the same business process implemented in a variety of ways due to differences in their departmental cultures or environments, even when using a unique integrated system. Additionally, although technology plays an important role in actually improving organizations, the human factor is still fundamental, since any improvement attempt goes through cultural changes. In this chapter, a peer-to-peer (P2P) tool is proposed as a way to cooperatively develop business processes models, minimizing the time needed to develop such models, reducing the differences among similar processes conducted in distinct organizational units, enhancing the quality of models, promoting reuse, and distributing knowledge.

Supply chain is a network of firms interacting in a linear fashion to produce, sell and deliver a product or service to a predetermined market segment. It links all the chain partners within and across organization to work competitively by forming the partnerships together with the integration of business processes, technical and organizational aspects. The successful implementation of supply chain management depends on many soft issues (strategic/behavioural). The soft issues of supply chain models can be dealt through proper information sharing, communication and coordination between the stages of supply chain. Vendor managed inventory is a proven concept for successful collaborative and cooperative agreements in supply chain. This chapter reviews some of the soft issues in two-echelon supply chain models and proposes a classification schema. This chapter surveys the theoretical background and application of vendor managed inventory systems based on environment, operational issues and solution approaches. Hence it is concluded that the framework presented in this chapter would aid supply chain managers and researchers to further look into the soft issues while modeling supply chain with information technology enabled vendor managed inventory systems.

This case is designed to explore the impact of information technology on business processes. The case starts with a description of a customer’s new technology experience at a McDonald’s restaurant. McDonald’s introduced multiple technologies in recent years as part of its strategic growth plan. The fast-food company is improving its business processes, mainly the order process, with new technologies to provide customer convenience. Such changes are critical to staying successful in the highly competitive fast-food industry. Self-order kiosks, the mobile order and pay app, and the Uber Eats app are three major technologies which have changed the order processes at McDonald’s. Students explore how these technologies change the order process and describe the impact of these technology initiatives at McDonald’s.

The following methods were used within the current study: comparison, systematic approach, analysis, modeling, synthesis and analytical framework.Findings. Modern approaches to building information support framework for an enterprise as a whole. The importance to provide a description of business processes is argued to design an effective information support system for business processes and their development management mechanism. An author’s original model of information support structure for business process management has been suggested.Conclusions. Complete and accurate information support for business processes is critical to ensure their effective operation. The information support for ensuring business process development management mechanism encompasses the formation and subsequent functioning of the overall system which includes information resources, information technology, software, and corresponding personnel, with following up further division by information support subsystems for providing in-depth analysis and ease of convenience, i.e. the information platform of the of business process development management mechanism.

The assessment method used is a capability model consisting of five capability levels. Based on the audit of information technology governance conducted by researchers using COBIT 5, then the conclusion of this study is the average capability level of the overall process obtained most of the process has reached level 1 performed process.
