AbstractBacterial glycans modulate the cross talk between the gut microbiota and its host. However, little is known about these glycans because of the lack of appropriate technology to study them. In this study, we applied Glycan-seq technology for glycan profiling of the intact gut microbiota of mice. The evaluation of cultured gram-positive (Deinococcus radiodurans) and gram-negative (Escherichia coli) bacteria showed significantly distinct glycan profiles between these bacteria, which were selected and further analyzed by flow cytometry. The results of flow cytometry agreed well with those obtained by Glycan-seq, indicating that Glycan-seq can be used for bacterial glycan profiling. We thus applied Glycan-seq for comparative glycan profiling of pups and adult mice gut microbiotas. The glycans of the pups and adult microbiotas had significantly distinct glycan profiles, which reflect the different bacterial compositions of pups and adult gut microbiotas based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing.α2-6Sia-binders bound specifically to the pups microbiota. Lectin pull-down followed by 16S rRNA gene sequencing of the pups microbiota identified Lactobacillaceae as the most abundant bacterial family with glycans reacting with α2-6Sia-binders. The Glycan-seq system can reveal the glycan profile of the intact bacterial gut microbiota.

Abstract Potato (Solanum tuberosum L) is one of the horticultural commodities with excellent opportunities for agribusiness and agroindustry development. The use of high-quality seeds and appropriate technology is still far from the reach of farmers. Generally, potato farmers in the Bener Meriah District use potato seeds from the previous production, but some consistently use superior seeds in every cultivation activity. This study analyses the factors that made farmers adopt superior seeds for potatoes in Bener Meriah. Based on the study results, the variables of age, education level, length of farming, land area, and the number of dependents had no significant effect on adopting superior potato seeds in Bener Meriah. At the same time, the variables of access to capital and farmer participation have a significant effect on farmers’ decisions to adopt superior potato seeds in Bener Meriah.

The food chain is made up of the different stages that the product follows from its origin to its final destination: production, transformation, storage, distribution and consumption. Throughout the chain, the traceability of the food is key to alert of any potential danger, establishing comprehensive food safety, from the beginning to the end, “from farm to fork". The transformation that is taking place in society thanks to the most avant-garde information and communication technologies (ICTs), is also breaking into the food chain, constituting the food industry 4.0, which is available at the service of each link through intelligent systems that allow obtaining safer, higher quality products in less time. Each ICT will offer different development possibilities thanks to its particular characteristics, so that in each link the most appropriate technology will be selected to solve the specific problems posed. This work aims to carry out a review of all these avant-garde tools, describing how thanks to these disruptive technologies, the processes of the food chain are being transformed, increasing, at the same time, the safety and quality of the products obtained and evaluating the possible associated social repercussions.

The urban energy model is based on imports from external sources. The continuous increase in energy demand due to population growth and development implies increasing resource requirements. The alternative is to use renewable energies that take advantage of urban resources. The diversity of typologies of cities in terms of resources, demands, architectural conditions, infrastructure, or density, makes a specific analysis necessary. This work identifies fourteen factors concerning the planning process that would allow choosing the most appropriate technology for a given city. Through consultation of experts, the existence of the resource is defined as the most prevalent factor, followed by economic conditions; On the other hand, it is detected that environmental aspects such as global warming, eutrophication, or acidification, are the least incidents when selecting technologies.

The process of freezing fish always requires a cooler as a temporary storage place for fish. The ability of the storage to maintain cold temperatures is a serious problem to be considered so that the freshness of the fish can be maintained. Therefore, an appropriate technology is required to support the cold chain system so that fish quality can be maintained. The purpose of this study was to test the thermal conductivity of composite materials for fish storage insulation from a mixture of rice husks and polyurethane so that the price of the box can be reduced but still maintain the quality of the fish. The composition of the composite material was made with a volume ratio of 1:0.5, 1:1, 1:1.5, and 1:2. The thermal conductivity test of the material uses the ASTM E1225-99 standard. All test results were compared with 100% polyurethane material. The results of testing the thermal conductivity of 100% polyurethane material obtained 0.023 W/m.C. From all the test results, the material that is most likely to be applied to fish cooler box insulation is a 1:1 composition having a thermal conductivity value of 0.067W/m.C. Materials with this composition do not affect the expansion of the polyol and isocyanate reactions. This composition is the most economical to be used as insulation for fish storage boxes which can save the use of polyurethane by 50%.

The digital era has changed government public relations practices into digital public relations. Several official information and messages from the government could be formed in a lighter and more attractive way through various new media platforms; one of them is through social media like TikTok. This study aims to analyze the impact of TikTok in disseminating serious content carried out by government public relations in Indonesia, especially by the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment through @kemenkomarves TikTok account, using secondary observation and literature review methods. This study is intended to analyse further the use of TikTok in disseminating serious content carried out by public relations of Kemenko Marves. The results of this study indicate the dualism of the impact caused by TikTok in transmitting Kemenko Marves public relations content. Although the dissemination of information through TikTok can reduce the original essence of the message, it also makes the information closer and easy to understand for the public. For this reason, appropriate technology adaptation and digital public relations strategies are needed to make the government public relations create digital content that is attractive for society.

Making and securing safe drinking water is considered as the most important element and human right for sustainable human life. However, many countries in Africa still have low access to safe water, and in particular, fluorosis symptoms are severe from the people of Africa where there is a lot of groundwater and surface water contaminated with fluoride due to the geological natures. Fluoride is a colorless, tasteless, and odorless element with very strong reactivity and is emitted from the cleaning process of semiconductors and the fertilizer manufacturing industries. Various technologies such as chemical coagulation/precipitation, electrochemical method, ion exchange, separation membrane technology, nanotechnology, and adsorption may be proposed as a technology for removing fluoride for securing safe drinking water. The strengths and weaknesses of each element technology and recent research cases were investigated and analyzed, and an appropriate technology application plan for the sustainable development of emerging and developing countries in Africa was presented. Efficiency of fluoride removal may be important to secure drinking water for developing countries in Africa, but it is necessary to consider the local economic situation and cultural background first for sustainability of the applied technology. Therefore, animal bone-based adsorption process is advantageous in terms of sustainability and can be proposed as a fluoride removal technology suitable for the developing countries in Africa.

Soybean is one of the leading commodities that is being developed in Indonesia. Today, the increase of soybean needs is not followed by its production capacity. Meanwhile, the area of productive land for soybean farming is decreasing due to land conversion for non-agricultural needs. One effort that can be an alternative is using marginal land by applying appropriate technology such as manure and biofertilizer. So that, it was necessary to know the composition of manure and biofertilizer, which was appropriate to increase the growth and yield of soybean plants on marginal soils. Complete Randomized Design was used in the experiment with two factors. The first factor was the ratio of manure: soil (v:v) there are 0:1, 1:1, 1:2, and 2:1. The second factor was rhizobacteria inoculum, which included without rhizobacteria, exogenous rhizobacteria, and indigenous rhizobacteria. Results showed that the composition of the best planting medium for growth and yield of soybean is manure: soil 1: 1 and 1: 2. The source of the rhizobacteria inoculum is not a significant difference to the soybean’s growth and yield. Manure and soil 1: 2 with indigenous inoculum tended to produce the best total number of nodules and effective root nodules. Manure and soil 1:1 with indigenous inoculum produce the best of seeds number. Manure and soil 1:2 or 2:1 with exogenous inoculum tended to produce the best seed index weight (g per 100 seeds).
