For bladed-disk assemblies in turbomachinery, the elements are often exposed to aerodynamic loadings, the so-called engine order excitations. It has been reported that such excitations could cause significant structural vibration. The vibration level could become even more excessive when the bladed disk is mistuned, and may cause fatigue damage to the engine components. To effectively suppress vibration in bladed disks, a piezoelectric transducer networking concept has been explored previously by the authors. While promising, the idea was developed based on a simplified bladed-disk model without considering the disk dynamics. To advance the state of the art, this research further extends the investigation with focus on new circuitry designs for a more sophisticated and realistic system model with the consideration of coupled-blade-disk dynamics. A novel multicircuit piezoelectric transducer network is synthesized and analyzed for multiple-harmonic vibration suppression of bladed disks. An optimal network is derived analytically. The performance of the network for bladed disks with random mistuning is examined through Monte Carlo simulation. The effects of variations (mistuning and detuning) in circuit parameters are also studied. A method to improve the system performance and robustness utilizing negative capacitance is discussed. Finally, experiments are carried out to demonstrate the vibration suppression capability of the proposed piezoelectric circuitry network.

Abstract A closed-form method of calculating Input Shaping sequences for two modes of vibration is presented. The new method eliminates the optimization routines previously required to find the same solutions. Input Shaping is a feed forward method of reducing residual vibrations in flexible structures by convolving an Input Shaping sequence with a command profile. The two-mode sequences are installed on a four-axis robot used in the manufacture of silicon wafers — the Cassette Management System. The new sequences are found to significantly improve the performance of the system. In standard throughput tests, speed increases of 15%–25% were obtained on each axis while vibrations were simultaneously reduced by 20%–90%.

A complex structure has the characters of many degrees of freedom and intricate shape, especially inelastic behavior under strong external loadings. It is hard to apply the structural control technology to it. In this paper, a new method that combines the Market-Based Control (MBC) strategy and Force Analogy Method (FAM) is presented to analyze the inelastic behavior of structure with magnetorheological dampers. The MBC is used to reduce the structural vibration response, and FAM is proposed to perform the inelastic analysis. A numerical example is used to compare the control effect of the new method and LQR algorithm, which show the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed computational method.

This article proposes a new layout of electrical network based on two negative capacitance circuits, aimed at increasing the performances of a traditional resistive piezoelectric shunt for structural vibration reduction. It is equivalent to artificially increase the modal electromechanical coupling factor of the electromechanical structure by both decreasing the short-circuit natural frequencies and increasing the open-circuit ones. This leads to higher values of the modal electromechanical coupling factor with respect to simple negative capacitance configurations, when the same margin from stability is considered. This technique is shown to be powerful in enhancing the control performance when associated to a simple resistive shunt, usually avoided because of its poor performances.
