Reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD) is a debilitating and recalcitrant condition that has bewildered the medical community for decades. This article briefly reviews the pathophysiology of RSD and describes the clinical presentation and management of patients suffering from RSD. The case study describes the clinical and electrodiagnostic findings of a patient with RSD following arthroscopic surgery on the knee. The medical and physical interventions rendered in this case are described.

Sinonasal alveolar soft-part sarcoma (ASPS) is a rare malignant disease that comprises 0.4% to 1.2% of all soft-tissue sarcomas. Alveolar soft-part sarcoma is usually difficult to diagnose because it has many clinical and pathological mimickers. In this case study, ASPS occurred in the olfactory cleft, representing the second case in this location in the literature. This article presents the clinical presentation, radiologic, and histopathological case, and reviews the literature regarding the differentials.

Adenomatoid tumor is an uncommon benign mesothelial neoplasm, usually localized in the epididymis. It is the most common paratesticular tumor of middle-aged patients (average age of clinical presentation: 36 years). However, these tumors in pediatric and pubertal patients are extremely rare. Due to their rarity, we present a case of adenomatoid tumor of the tail of the epididymis in a 16-year-old patient. After systematic research of the current literature, we did not find another case report of epididymal adenomatoid tumor in a male patient aged 16 years old or less. This notice and our concern, as well, about the patient’s surveillance protocol during the postoperative period were the motive for this case study.

In the case reported, the diagnosis of gonococcal arthritis unfolded over the course of 1 week and was not fully conclusive until presumptive therapy was initiated. Although the clinical, microbiologic, and immunologic characteristics of gonococcal arthritis can be differentiated from other types of bacterial arthritides, not all textbook symptoms are present at one time in one particular case. There also are subtle signs that are involved. In this case study, there was little definitive evidence that stood out to confirm the diagnosis. It was the interdependence of a complete history, serologic and radiographic studies, clinical presentation, and demographic considerations that led to an accurate diagnosis and timely treatment of gonococcal arthritis.

Herein, we report a rare case study of a sarcoidosis presenting with the features of compressive myelopathy. There were multiple extra-dural lesions in the thoracic region. Computerized Tomography (CT) of the chest revealed fibrotic changes with a pleural based nodular lesion in the right lung. The patient underwent laminectomy and partial excision of both the lesions. The histology revealed presence of non-caseating granulomas. The patient made a good recovery following adjuvant medical management with steroid and Methotrexate. Repeat CT scan of the chest also confirmed good resolution in the size of the pleural based nodule.

Purpose Misophonia is a sound tolerance disorder condition in certain sounds that trigger intense emotional or physiological responses. While some persons may experience misophonia, a few patients suffer from misophonia. However, there is a dearth of literature on audiological assessment and management of persons with misophonia. The purpose of this report is to discuss the assessment of misophonia and highlight the management option that helped a patient with misophonia. Method A case study of a 26-year-old woman with the complaint of decreased tolerance to specific sounds affecting quality of life is reported. Audiological assessment differentiated misophonia from hyperacusis. Management included retraining counseling as well as desensitization and habituation therapy based on the principles described by P. J. Jastreboff and Jastreboff (2014). A misophonia questionnaire was administered at regular intervals to monitor the effectiveness of therapy. Results A detailed case history and audiological evaluations including pure-tone audiogram and Johnson Hyperacusis Index revealed the presence of misophonia. The patient benefitted from intervention, and the scores of the misophonia questionnaire indicated a decrease in the severity of the problem. Conclusions It is important to differentially diagnose misophonia and hyperacusis in persons with sound tolerance disorders. Retraining counseling as well as desensitization and habituation therapy can help patients who suffer from misophonia.

This case report describes the positive outcome of a therapeutic intervention that integrated an intensive, residential component with follow-up telepractice for a 21 year old male who stutters. This therapy utilized an eclectic approach to intensive therapy in conjunction with a 12-month follow-up via video telepractice. The results indicated that the client benefited from the program as demonstrated by a reduction in percent stuttered syllables, a reduction in stuttering severity, and a change in attitudes and feelings related to stuttering and speaking.

Abstract The article presents a case with diagnosed Hodgkin disease (HD) during pregnancy. The aim of this case study was to present diagnostic possibilities in determining HD stage during pregnancy and therapeutic dilemmas. The incidence of HD during pregnancy is 3.2% of all cases with this malignant hematological disorder. The treatment of this disease during pregnancy depends on disease-related factors, pregnancy-related factors, as well as possible implications for fetal morbidity and mortality. The need of analysis of the nature of the disease during pregnancy indicates examination of a larger series of pregnant women with HD and the drawn conclusions affect the decision whether chemotherapy treatment should start immediately or it should be postponed for after delivery.
